Meet Máirín Shine – WAVE LEADER

What inspired me to become a Pacer/Wave Leader was having seen all these amazing women over the years since I started doing the Women’s Mini Marathon almost 24 years ago.

After that I ended up joining a running club and doing every distance from 5k - marathons, cross country and trail running!

So that first Women’s Mini Marathon was really the start of my running journey and that journey continues to this day! So when I was asked to become a pacer I didn't hesitate to say yes.

I wanted to give something back so what better way than by becoming a pacer and supporting and encouraging other women to achieve their aims.

Nothing marks the approach of summer like prepping for the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon and everyone at EVOKE is bursting with excitement to get our runners on and hit the streets of Dublin on June 1 as one of the beloved event’s media partners in 2025.

Over the past few months we’ve been making sure to get our steps in and train for the big Bank Holiday extravaganza but the biggest source of inspiration spurring us on to keep up the good work and not fall back on our sofas (and we’ve definitely been tempted on a few rainy evenings!) has been speaking with other participants who have incredible stories of resilience and love.

Several women have shared their stories with EVOKE in the lead-up to the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon, generously telling us how they’ve made precious memories with their loved-ones while walking, jogging, or running around the city, often doing so while holding back tears as they remember those no longer here and who they wish could be taking part with them.

Embracing a second chance

As Jessica Wade prepares to turn the big 5-0, she hopes to prove to herself 'that anything is possible' as she on her marks and gets set to run the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon.

As a former drug addict who has 'reframed' her life, the Ballyfermot native is now more than 16 years in recovery and told how the event 'means everything to me' as she wants to 'feel emotionally balanced, physically well and spiritually alive going into my 50s.’

Jessica also has an important person to keep her pushing to the finish line - her grandson! 'Now that I'm a nanny, I want to continue being my healthiest mentally and physically for my grandson and my family,’ she told EVOKE.

Good luck to everyone taking part in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon in 2025!

Life changing runs A mother’s love

Indre Narkeviciute won't be thinking about the distance or her sore feet when taking part in the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon, but rather how much running has empowered her to change her outlook on life. The Lithuanian native, who is now based in Dublin, has learned to appreciate the sport after a back injury forced her to sit out on the activity, among many others, for much of her life.

Indre was enjoying her early twenties, going out and meeting new people when she suffered two severely slipped discs in her lower back. Her life was totally altered by the painful injury, and she believed that she would never do some of her favorite activities again.

It wasn’t until a training course at work that Indre discovered that running could help her. ' I did my first 5K in Toronto last year. I was really, really proud of myself,' Indre explained to EVOKE. 'That moment crossing the finish line, my body hurt like hell but it was amazing.’

Caoimhe Smith is a mum on a mission this June 1 as she’ll be taking part in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon in honour of her son Patrick, who was stillborn at 22 weeks in 2023.

The 2025 event will be the third time that Caoimhe has taken part and she will be supported by her sister and her close friends on the day, which she doesn't take for granted.

She opened up to EVOKE, recalling the tough moment she began to struggle during the 10k in 2024, remembering it was a 'really hot day’, but that her sister found the words to keep her going.

She said: ‘I was like, Oh my God, I can't finish this" and my sister would be like "Come on, we're doing it for Patrick which was very emotional, especially when I finished it, but it was a good emotion.’

Go Grace!

EVOKE has also been checking in with LGFA star Grace Clifford who is taking part in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon with us this year… all while expecting her first baby.

Grace will be very close to her due date on June 1 but wants other women to know that ‘just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I can't do a marathon.’

Over the past 12 weeks, Grace has talked us through her training routine and explained how her diet has changed as well as how she’s learnt to listen to her body and slow down when needed.

She told EVOKE: ‘When I found out I was pregnant, I struggled to find other women's experiences, those who are feeling good and kept pushing themselves and kept training away.’

‘By doing the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon, I hope to inspire other women that you can still do these things once you are putting your health first.’

At Drivalia Ireland, we are honoured to be the official vehicle sponsor for the 2025 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon - an extraordinary event that symbolises the strength, solidarity, and spirit of women across the country.

Now in its 43rd year, the Mini Marathon is far more than a race. It’s a celebration of resilience and togetherness, where tens of thousands of women walk, jog, or run for causes close to their hearts, raising millions for charities nationwide. Every step taken is a step towards positive change, both personal and societal.

This year’s theme, Championing Womankind, perfectly reflects the power of community. It’s about lifting each other up, inspiring one another, and proving that when women come together, they are truly unstoppable.

At Drivalia, we believe in supporting people on the move, whether that’s through sustainable mobility solutions or backing events that make a real difference.

Our sponsorship of this iconic event is a reflection of our wider commitment to giving back to the communities we serve, supporting local businesses, and driving a greener, healthier, and more inclusive future for all.

We’re proud to stand alongside every woman taking part this June.

Let’s drive change - one step at a time!
