Home is where we feel connected, nourished, and protected—yet many seniors lose this sense of belonging when they move into long-term care. For many, care homes trigger loneliness and isolation, as they are separated from the places and people they once cherished.

A New Age of Care Care for the Future

With your support, we can ensure that those in long-term care receive the best compassionate, engaging and specialized care that they deserve. Philanthropy is key to providing the best care for the increasing diversity and complexity of residents.

Long Term Care Champaign: Home Connections

Many seniors experience loneliness and isolation when they transition to care homes, especially after the challenges posed by COVID-19. These challenges have been particularly hard on residents with dementia and those with limited family support. The Home Connections campaign is dedicated to transforming the lives of seniors in long-term care homes by fostering a sense of community, connection, and belonging.

The Home Connections campaign focuses on three core areas to enhance the well-being of residents:

1. Creating Welcoming Spaces

Revitalizing communal and private spaces to make longterm care homes feel more like home. Personalized decor, cozy sitting areas, and sensory rooms will create an inviting and comfortable atmosphere where residents feel valued and connected.

2. Meaningful Engagement

Supporting creative therapies such as art, music, and virtual reality, along with recreational activities, to improve mental and emotional health. These programs provide seniors with enriching opportunities for self-expression, social interaction, and cognitive stimulation, which are critical for their overall well-being.

3. Enhanced Care Teams

Strengthening care teams with additional support roles and specialized training to ensure that residents receive compassionate, individualized care. A holistic approach to care will address not just physical, but also emotional and social needs, promoting a sense of dignity and comfort for every resident.

With your support, we can ensure that those in long-term care receive the best compassionate, engaging and specialized care that they deserve. Philanthropy is key to providing the best care for the increasing diversity and complexity of residents.

There may be a limit to the number of scoops before the whole thing collapses down onto my clean shirt, but there is no such limit on human accomplishment. I went from a research paper covering economic growth in correlation with democratization to behaviour economics: the point is that before accomplishment, there must be curiosity. Most often, that question asks, “How far can I go?” Keep me in the back of your mind, and maybe we’ll find out together.

Hosted by a kitchen school, I made borscht soup for local schools in need. Surrounded by family, friends in community events volunteering for a cause, I experienced firsthand the power of teamwork. These memories from my childhood has guided me towards a journey committed to

community service. From age eleven to fifteen, I had joined a volunteering association for youth raising money for the BC Children’s Hospital. During this time, I had accummulated hours of experience gaining confidence and learned invaluable skills to communicate my service. The recognition I received for my dedication, was my first trophy, showcasing my passion for philanthropy and marking the start of a journey driven by desire to make a difference. At sixteen, I founded the “Orange Youth Volunteers Association.” I started with a few friends and together we organized our first in-school fundraiser, and found a mask sponsor giving our masks in appreciatio for students donation. Over time, we held more initiatives, including hygiene kit workshops for the YWCA Crabtree Corner, which provides support for single women and families. Receiving the B.C. The

Medal of Good Citizenship during COVID-19 was a significant feeling validating my efforts. Now I am pursuing a Visual Arts major at UBC Okanagan, where I serve as the Junior Executive for the Visual Arts Course Union. This role, along with organizing a recent event the “Restyle for a Cause” shoe workshop to support BC Children’s Hospital, fuels my passion for community work and the arts, and I look forward to continuing this lifelong journey of service and creativity.
