A Guide to Take Care of Your Pet Post-Operation If your pet has undergone surgery, whether severe or non-severe, it will be an uncomfortable experience for him. Not just during surgery, but even a few days of the recovery period will be difficult for him. As a pet owner, you can do nothing during the surgery. You cannot even skip the procedure to avoid giving pain to your pet. But, you have a huge role in your pet’s life post-surgery. The care and love given by you after the procedure will help your pet recover properly. The two important that you should follow as post-operative care are: • You should give your pet plenty of time to rest and recover • You stay in touch with your pet care specialist Other things you should know about post-operative care are: Pets feel drowsy In the first 12 to 24 hours after surgery, your pet will be sleepy and a bit lethargic due to the use of general anesthesia or other sedatives. Sometimes, pets feel lethargic because of pain relief tablets given at the time of surgery. But, you shouldn’t worry as this drowsiness will go after a day or two of the operation. If your pet feels drowsy, you should let him sleep as long as wish. Restrict the amount of your pet’s activity There are stitches on the body after surgeries that take require time to heal. If the pet doesn’t rest properly, the stitches will get the time and create complications in recovery. So, you should restrict the amount of activity of pets.
