CAN I GIVE MILK TO MY CAT?

CANIGIVEMILKTOMYCAT?

Just like babies, kittens derive so much nutrition from a mother's milk. But as they grow older, they may or may not need to drink milk from their mothers anymore. Some cats like milk, but there are also lactose intolerant ones.

Lactose is a type of sugar found in milk, and other cats may be sensitive to this. These cats may stop or minimally drink milk in their 3rd month and once they get used to kitten food. Older kittens are not good at producing lactase, the enzyme that can digest lactose in milk, unlike young kittens.

If you really want your pet cat to drink milk, you may give it lactose-free milk. Make sure to monitor their health and watch out for diarrhea. If it occurs, stop giving milk to your cat and allow its digestive system to heal on its own.

During your pet's wellness check, don't forget to discuss its diet and nutrition with the vets Columbia, MD.
