Welcome to our Spring Edition of the Vertu Honda Link magazine. As 2020 and a new decade gets underway it’s a pleasure to update you on all things new at Vertu Honda. The motor industry is at a very exciting point as global manufacturers gain momentum on the journey to electrification. So why all the fuss?

Essentially measures are in play across the UK and Europe to ensure that future cars produced meet stringent emissions rules. A better planet for us all and a challenge I am more than confident that Honda will not only meet but lead with the technologies available right now and in the future.

NEW 2020 CIVIC

Honda has revealed a range of upgrades for the 2020 Civic, encompassing exterior styling enhancements and improvements to the infotainment system and materials used in the cabin to further enhance the car’s usability and premium feel.

The refreshed Civic builds on the car's purposeful silhouette and muscular stance by adding a new elegant, symmetrical lower front grille around the fog lights, with smoothed surfaces and sleek styling blades.

Upgrades to the Civic’s face also include full LED headlight clusters, and redesigned LED daytime running lights that follow the dynamic lines of the styling blades. New 16inch alloy wheels are available for the entrylevel model, while mid- and top-range models can be styled with sporty ‘Shark Grey’ 17-inch alloys for customers wanting a more dramatic look. Honda has introduced a new Sport Line model to its 2020 Civic line-up, featuring exterior design cues inspired by the acclaimed Type R. The new Sport Line model is available in a top of the range model EX Adding to the range of existing colour options, the Civic will also be available in a stand-out new paint finish, Obsidian Blue.

The refined interior of the Civic has been upgraded with the inclusion of new textured interior panels that reinforce the sophisticated, premium ambience. The Civic continues to combine class-leading versatility

A cars climate control or air conditioning system is a welcome feature of the majority of cars on the roads today. Why you need to consider anti-bacterial air conditioning treatment?

Moisture provides the ideal breeding ground for bacteria and the changes in temperatures, even more so in autumn and winter, on and around the evaporator leads to the formation of condensation. Moisture, just like the condensation that forms on the inside of your house window, which we all know if left leads to black mould, bacteria. Bacteria multiplies rapidly on surfaces particularly where this is warmth and moisture, so this is why we recommend disinfecting the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system on an annual basis.

Over the winter you probably don’t use your air conditioning as much. But your air conditioning is a lot like your kitchen fridge, the refrigeration fluid doesn’t circulate when it’s switched off.

This fluid has oil in it, and when it’s not circulating there’s no lubrication. Seals can then dry out, shrink and let the gas slowly leak away. That means less cold air and cold air is something we all appreciate inside our car during the summer. Try and ensure you use the system for a minimum of fifteen minutes each week and we highly recommend regular servicing in line with your routine servicing to keep your system running at its optimum.

12 Vertu Honda Lincoln offers support Vertu Honda Lincoln were pleased to be able to support the creation of an installation at the International Bomber Command. The International Bomber Command has been working with The Little Pottery Studio Ltd to create a beautiful installation from over 1500 hand-crafted ceramic poppies made by individuals and groups from the local community.

This commemorates VEDay75 and the 75th anniversary of Operation Manna, the world’s first airborne humanitarian food aid mission, which saved the lives of nearly a million Dutch people.

Vertu Honda Sunderland Excel at European & Africa East Honda Circles Final Competition.

Dave Shaw, Craig Smith and Jordan McGill of Vertu Honda Sunderland proudly represented Vertu Honda at the annual Honda Circles Europe and Africa East finals in Amsterdam. With over four hundred people attending, from all over the world, it was a very special and informative event. Vertu Honda has been fortunate enough to have represented the Honda UK dealer network twice before in this competition with teams from Lincoln and Boston Honda in the past reaching the finals in Paris and Budapest.

This year our team made up of Dave (Aftersales Manager) Craig (Sales Manager) and the young Jordan McGill (Sales Executive) proudly gave their all in the competition. Their idea on how to maximise service customer collections and improve levels of customer satisfaction went down brilliantly well with the judges at the UK qualifying round which was held back in July in Oxford.

Recognition at Vertu Masters Awards Apprentice Technician at Vertu Honda Stockton has been recognised with national awards, which were presented by iconic, larger than life actor Brian Blessed. Omair Ahmed was awarded a Vertu Masters Awards.

Omair has received feedback from Honda about ‘just how good his learning new tasks ability has been, to the point that he is miles ahead of his peers on the course.’

Martin Boagey, general manager at Vertu Honda, said: “Omair shows great commitment to learning and personal development. Being an ex-technician myself I know what I am looking for in a trainee and watching Omair’s knowledge increase has been a pleasure. He is a worthy winner of the award.”

Vertu Motors inducted 27 new members into its Masters Club, which recognises colleagues from the Group’s 125 dealerships who have excelled in their role and delivered outstanding levels of performance.

Peter Cannon, our divisional finance director and Karen Anderson, chief financial officer admirably completed a 26-mile hike to raise much needed funds for MacMillan Cancer Support.

The walk, through cornfields, along river banks, across beaches, over styles and alongside grazing cows and sheep was thankfully blessed with decent weather. The first 20 miles went pretty well but the last leg proved to be quite a challenge as muscles started to tighten and feet started to burn.

They rose to the challenge and, inspired by the generosity of family, friends, colleagues and associates made it to the finishing line to raise a fantastic £4400.

They have already started talking about their challenge for later this year, yikes!! n

Vertu Honda Grantham and the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance

Our colleagues and customers recently raised £280 at a Vertu Honda Grantham Bikes event. A chance for people to get together, meet the team and view the latest bikes on offer at the dealership, the social event was a great success. Nearly £300 was raised on the day for a the local charity which is held in very high regard.

One hundred per cent of customers enjoy buying from Vertu Honda Morpeth The two newest young apprentice recruits to Vertu Honda’s Morpeth team are setting out on what they hope will be long and successful careers at our Coopies Lane dealership.

Nineteen-year-old Krystal Quenet from Ashington is training to be a service advisor while John-Thomas Swinney (20) is nearing the end of his apprenticeship after three years with the company.

Krystal is following in the footsteps of her father Jaime who worked at the adjoining Vertu Ford dealership. Her role is to deal directly with customers booking their cars into the dealership for their regular service or repairs, and her aim is to gain a qualification as a customer service advisor.

John joined Vertu Honda straight from school at the company’s Newcastle dealership before switching temporarily in May to Morpeth. However, he enjoyed working there so much that he requested a permanent transfer to Morpeth and was delighted when that was agreed. When he completes his apprenticeship early next year John will be a qualified light vehicle technician.

Both Krystal and John say they love working at Morpeth which was opened

three years ago and is now one of the most successful Vertu Honda dealerships in the country. The dealership not only attracts customers from across Northumberland and Tyneside but has also sold cars to customers as far afield as the Outer Hebrides and Portsmouth because they have been so happy with the deal they were offered and the way they were looked after by the Morpeth team. Some long-distance customers even bring their cars back to Morpeth to be serviced!

Recently that was reflected when the dealership received a customer satisfaction award from the social media website JudgeService because 100 per cent of people buying a car from Morpeth declared

themselves satisfied with the way they were looked after by the dealership.

Sales Manager Mark Spring who has worked for Vertu Honda for around 14 years, says “it’s a pleasure to work at Morpeth. It is a great dealership; we have a terrific experienced and knowledgeable team, plus we are selling some of the very best cars money can buy.”

Honda was founded in 1948. Motorcycle mass production at its first factory outside of Japan began in Belgium in 1963.
