Our work in MoJ so far
Cafcass Scribe
The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) represents the interests of approximately 140,000 children annually in family court proceedings across England. To enhance their communication strategies and better serve children and young adults with diverse needs, Cafcass partnered with Version 1 to develop Scribe— an innovative AI-driven support tool.
Scribe is designed to assist Family Court Advisors (FCAs) in creating personalised, ageappropriate letters for children and families. By leveraging Microsoft Azure’s artificial intelligence services, Scribe automates the generation of letters, ensuring they are clear, compassionate, and inclusive. This tool is seamlessly integrated within Cafcass’s ChildFirst system, maintaining familiar workflows for FCAs.

Enhanced Personalisation
Utilises advanced algorithms to customise letters based on each child’s profile, including preferred name, age, and integrating manual case notes for more meaningful and relevant communications.
Improved Efficiency
By assisting with hyper-personalisation of letters, Scribe reduces the manual workload, allowing FCAs to focus more on directly supporting families rather than repetitive tasks.
Increased Accessibility
Features like language translation and audio file generation enhance inclusivity for children with disabilities, neurodiverse conditions, or language barriers. Additionally, Scribe tailors the language complexity to match a child’s reading age, making letters clearer and easier to understand.
Security & Compliance
Scribe leverages Microsoft Azure’s robust security features to ensure data protection and compliance with relevant regulations.
Impact & Outcomes
The implementation of Scribe has significantly improved the quality and efficiency of communication between Cafcass and the children and families they serve. By automating the letter generation process, FCAs can now dedicate more time to providing direct support, thereby enhancing overall engagement and satisfaction among children and families.
Future Prospects
As we continue to refine and expand the capabilities of Scribe, we aim to further integrate advanced features and ensure scalability to meet the evolving needs of Cafcass. This initiative aligns with Cafcass’s strategic plan to improve outcomes for children, young people, and families through enhanced technology and inclusive practices.

Our work in MoJ so far
HMPPS
MoJ faced a significant challenge with the complexity of calculating release dates for prisoners, especially when legislation changes. To address this, you partnered with us to develop the Calculate Release Dates Service (CRDS), a digital tool designed to streamline and automate the process.
Collaboration and Partnership
We worked closely with Justice Digital, policy experts, and prison staff to understand the real challenges faced by Offender Management Units (OMUs). This collaborative approach ensured that the solutions developed were user-centred and addressed the root causes of the issues.
Agility and Flexibility
The project was delivered using an agile approach, allowing the team to respond rapidly to emerging requirements and user needs. This flexibility enabled the accelerated rollout of CRDS from 35 to all 124 prisons in just six weeks.
Understanding Real Problems Techniques Used
Rather than jumping straight to technology solutions, our team immersed itself in understanding the complexities of policy rules and prison processes. Techniques such as user research, service design, and business analysis were employed to build a clear understanding of the challenges.
We utilised advanced analytics to measure the success of the implementation. Custom data models and live dashboards were created to monitor the impact of the service in near real-time. These insights were shared with policy and operational teams to drive informed decision-making.
Our approach included sharing skills and working alongside civil servants to ensure sustainable future for the CRDS. The calculation engine developed can be updated and managed by HMPPS without reliance on third parties, enabling better coordination between operations, policy, and prisons.
Impact and Outcomes
The implementation of CRDS has significantly improved the accuracy and efficiency of sentence calculations, saving 761 days of calculation time and preventing 92 potential incorrect releases. The service is projected to save 7,000 days of OMU time annually.
Future Prospects Building a Sustainable Future
CRDS represents a blueprint for future public service delivery, demonstrating the value of user-centred, collaborative approach. We continue to support you in achieving their digital transformation goals, ensuring that the service remains adaptable to future legislative changes.


Our Public Sector expertise

Enterprise
Ireland
Enterprise Ireland partnered with Version 1 to modernise their financial and procurement systems through the implementation of Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP. This collaboration aimed to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and integrate best industry practices, addressing the challenges posed by their outdated legacy systems. The transformation enhanced Enterprise Ireland’s ability to support Irish enterprises globally by automating key processes and boosting operational effectiveness.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) collaborated with Version 1 to develop Smart Text, an AI-driven solution aimed at automating compliance and enhancing security. This innovative platform uses machine learning to accurately categorise grant application documents, protecting sensitive information and mitigating GDPR compliance risks. By leveraging real-time AI capabilities, Smart Text improves the efficiency and accuracy of document processing, ensuring that personal data is handled securely and reducing the risk of data breaches.
National Highways
National Highways teamed up with Version 1 to drive their digital transformation journey. This collaboration delivers sustainable transformation and boosts public safety and road user experience by modernising infrastructure and enhancing traffic flow, making England’s roads safer and more efficient.

Cafcass partnered with Version 1 to revolutionise their communication processes.
