This book is an archive of various anecdotes and the “cabalas” followed by a number of Argentines of different ages. Its purpose is to introduce the concept of “cabalas” in my culture and shed light to the extremes to which we are willing to go when driven by passion and desire.
“Cabalas” in Argentina, as in many other places, refer to superstitious beliefs or rituals that people follow with the hope of attracting good luck or avoiding bad luck in various situations. These practices can vary widely and may include such things as wearing certain items of clothing, performing certain actions or avoiding others, or even reciting specific words or phrases at key moments.
People have cabalas for everything, and despite their lack of scientific proof, these practices are a source of unity and fun, a link between generations and a unique expression of Argentina’s rich cultural heritage.

A vibrant zine project that unfolds the tapestry of different travel destinations accross Europe through the lens of TikTok-inspired aesthetics. Inspired by separate Tik Toks, this zine explores themes of gastronomy, activities, landscapes, and fashion.
When thinking of a theme to choose for my digital photography class, I knew I wanted to relate it to my new backyard- the streets of New York City. This particular interest in the city didn’t have to do with its visuals and composure, but with the emotion it portrays and creates for the many individuals that call it home. I automatically thought about using the theme of social life in the city to try to capture its outgoing elements, but in need to challenge myself I felt like it would be more interesting to divert my attention from the commotion to the solitude in the city. Solitude in New York was a curious theme for me because it involved capturing the sense of feeling alone in a city where commotion fills every corner of every street. Finding a pause. Finding feelings of misplacement and loneliness in one of the biggest crowd of the world. Even though some of the captured images portray simple scenes, the emotions in each one is powerful enough to give it the importance it deserves.

THE PLANNING AND EXECUTION OF A MASSIVE FIREWORKS DISPLAY REQUIRE A SIGNIFICANT WORKFORCE. FROM EVENT ORGANIZERS AND PYROTECHNICIANS TO SECURITY PERSONNEL AND SUPPORT STAFF, THE MACY’S FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS SHOW CREATES JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR A DIVERSE RANGE OF INDIVIDUALS.
FIREWORKS PRODUCE FINE PARTICLES, KNOWN AS PARTICULATE MATTER (PM), DURING COMBUSTION. THESE PARTICLES CAN BE INHALED INTO THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM AND POSE POTENTIAL HEALTH RISKS, ESPECIALLY FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH PRE-EXISTING RESPIRATORY CONDITIONS.
THE COMBUSTION PRODUCTS OF FIREWORKS CONTRIBUTES TO THE FORMATION OF OZONE. GROUND-LEVEL OZONE IS A KEY COMPONENT OF SMOG AND CAN HAVE ADVERSE EFFECTS ON RESPIRATORY HEALTH.
THE VIBRANT COLORS PRODUCED BY FIREWORKS ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH THE USE OF METAL COMPOUNDS. STRONTIUM, COPPER, AND BARIUM COMPOUNDS ARE USED TO CREATE RED, BLUE, AND GREEN COLORS, RESPECTIVELY. WHEN THESE METALS BURN, THEY RELEASE METAL IONS INTO THE AIR, WHICH CONTRIBUTES TO AIR POLLUTION.

Laura Sonzini sonzl875@newschool.eduSince my freshman year, I have spent many hours in my public school’s art classroom. The wide class has two large window panels which had been covered up with cardboard to avoid any light passage ever since I could remember.
This created a gloomy vibe and a feeling of confinement, so one day, I reached out to my art teacher Mr. Lacayo and proposed to him an idea inspired by my admiration for stained glass windows. Exploring binary shapes, colors, and their total complexion, I was eager to create a sketch resembling the colorful vitraux I had seen and appreciated throughout my life. The sketch represented an installation that could be applied to our own classroom in order to create a brighter, more vibrant environment that would set a positive mood to work.
With the help of professor Mr. Lacayo, what started as an individual work turned into a collaborative project that involved the whole class. Using rolls of colored cellophane and an electric lift, we taped the individual pieces to each window panel until the whole glass wall was covered with vibrant colors.
