HEAD COACH

BRITTANIE TALLEY 7TH YEAR OVERALL

2ND YEAR AT VERNON

Originally from San Antonio, TX, Brittanie Talley graduated from Ronald Reagan High School and was a 2005 All-District and All-Area Super Team selection. As a graduate from Jackson State University in 2010, Talley earned her Bachelors of Science degree in health, physical education and recreation.

As a player, she earned a Preseason All-SWAC and Second Team All-SWAC. During the 2010-2011 season, she was the graduate assistant for the softball team at D2 Southern Arkansas University- responsibilities included: pitching and infielders as well as administrative tasks. In 2011, Talley played professionally for the Skรถvde Saints in Skรถvde, Sweden, winning a Swedish League Championship and was named the Swedish League Pitcher of the Year.

Also in 2011, served as the pitching coach for the Swedish National Team in the European Championships, calling pitches and working with hitters: Sweden placed 11 out of 25 teams, the highest rank for the team at that time. In the 2014-2015 seasons she served as an assistant at D1 Alabama State University, working primarily with pitchers and outfield for 2014 and working with pitchers and as director of operations for 2015. Under my watch, Chelsea King was the recipient of three awards including Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year and All-SWAC First Team for pitcher.

ASSISTANT COACH

STEPHEN HOLTON 13TH YEAR OVERALL

1ST YEAR AT VERNON

With 14 years of coaching experience, Stephen Holton enters his first year with Vernon College as assistant coach in 2018 after one year at the University Of North Texas as an assistant coach working with pitchers.

His coaching career began at Texas Tech University where he was a volunteer assistant from 2004-2006.

After leaving Texas Tech he went on to have a very successful 10-year sales career.

From 2006-2010 he had his own softball organization called Sting. Holton was the Umpire in Chief for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Softball Association from 2011-2012.

During a field coaching hiatus, he continued to give private hitting and fielding lessons. Holton returned to coaching in 2012 by working with the Texas Fusion Organization until 2015. Realizing his passion for c oaching, he left the corporate world in 2015 to pursue softball coaching opportunities at the collegiate level.

Support Staff JULIE MYERS-KUHN ATHELETIC DIRECTOR

Julie Myers-Kuhn has been with Vernon College for over 28 years. Originally from Rhineland, Texas, Julie graduated from Midwestern State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master of Science Degree in Physical Education and Mid- Management Certification.

“I’ve enjoyed all aspects of my job while here at Vernon College beginning with the volleyball program and coaching for 17 years in that position, Community Recreation Director and Kinesiology Instructor,” Julie said. She’s excited for the opportunity to begin as the full-time Athletic Director position. When she isn’t on the Vernon College campus, you can find her traveling, enjoying sports and outdoor activities and spending time with her large family.

JASON JENKINS ATHELETIC TRAINER

Jason Jenkins came to Vernon College in the fall of 2006 and has been an integral part to the success of the athletic programs. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Education with emphasis in Athletic Training and Community Health in 1995 at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln.

While at UNL, Jason was part of the National Champion Husker football team and also was the student athletic trainer for the baseball team. Having passed his NATABOC test and earning his ATC credentials, he went on to earn a Master’s of Science in Education with emphasis in Athletic Administration in 1997 from Wayne State College. After completing his education, Jason joined the workforce at Fremont Physical Therapy and later went to work for Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont, Nebraska.

There he began an outreach program that grew to 10 schools in a four county area, servicing over 900 athletes annually.

While at FAMC, Jason was involved with many state organizations and was an elected member of the Nebraska State Athletic Trainers Association. In this capacity he served as Treasurer/Secretary, Vice President and President. Having suffered through many grueling winters, it was time that Jason and his family headed south where they have been since coming to Vernon College.

He is married to Shannon Jenkins and together they have 3 children. Both of their sons (Spencer & Trevor) are currently serving in the United States Marine Corps and their daughter (Brianna) is currently attending Vernon College as well.
