ASK FRIENDS TO PITCH IN If you’ll have a significant number of gifts, save time and energy by making space for “assembly line” table, and call in your friends and family to help!

PLAN YOUR TRANSPORTATION We know from experience just how many bags and boxes of varying sizes fit in the back of a Subaru wagon (and it can be a surprise when it’s fewer than you had planned!).

Start with a personal greeting. It may seem obvious, but people skip this more than you'd think!

A simple “Dear Aunt Sarah,” works just fine.

State your thanks for the specific gift or gesture. "Thank you so much for the gorgeous silver picture frame." or "Thank you for watching our dog during our wedding weekend." In the case of a monetary gift, you can say something like "Thank you for the generous gift!"

Let them know why you liked it/how you’ll use it. It means so much to the giver if they can envision your enjoyment of their gift. "We plan to use the frame to display one of our very favorite photos from the wedding." or "Knowing Fido was having a great time with you allowed us to truly relax and enjoy ourselves." or "We're so excited to use this to book our honeymoon catamaran tour!"

Make a connection to the future. "We're looking forward to seeing you at Thanksgiving."

Thank them again, but with a new detail. "Thank you again for sharing this special occasion with us. Having you at our wedding made the celebration even more special."
