Sadly this past December saw the passing of our visionary owner, Will Raap. With our Malthouse renovation at 90% completion it was decided that the property and assets should be sold. With new ownership on the horizon and a new direction for the property we have been asked to sell off all of our malting equipment. 1 System Information

Equipment designed on a kiln air mass flow of 90000 kg/h [50912 cfm] and an altitude of 100 m.a.s.l [330 ft.a.s.l].

VARINOX indirect kiln air heater with a combustion efficiency of 100% related to LCV.

The heating capacity of the VARINOX air heater is 1400 kW [4777 MBTU/h]. Considering the design kiln air mass flow of 90000 kg/h and a heating capacity of 1400 kW, a temperature increase of approx. 55 K (e.g. from 20°C to 75°C) [from 68°F to 167°F] can be achieved. During curing with reduced air flow and partly opened recirculation damper much higher temperatures (e.g. 110°C [230°F] can be reached.

Frost protection

As a result of the warm exhaust air flow through the tubes we expect ice formation inside the tubes only at supply air temperatures below -15°C.

At lower ambient temperatures ice formation starts inside the tubes at the heat exchanger inlet side. However, damages to the stainless steel tubes as a result of ice formation are very unlikely. But an increased pressure drop on the exhaust air side (due to ice accumulations inside the tubes) as well as a reduction in heat recovery efficiency have to be taken into account.

In order to minimize such impact on pressure drop and efficiency and to shift the start of the ice formation to even lower ambient temperatures, the following operational measures may be taken into consideration:

● recirculation of humid air from the exhaust air side to the supply air side downstream of the heat exchanger (resulting in an increased exhaust air temperature level above the kiln bed, equivalent to summer operating conditions)

● partly bypassing the heat exchanger supply air side (resulting in increased heat demand)

3 VARINOX Indirect Kiln Air Heater, acc.

3.1 Equipment Specification

3.1. 1 Air heater for indirect, NON-free heating of kilning process air.

3.1. 2 Air heater fired by natural gas, no stand-by fuel.

3.1. 3 Burner generates hot flue gas being quenched by cold flue gas recirculation to max. 650°C at combustion chamber outlet.

3.1.4 Double shell combustion chamber with interior reinforced flame tube.

3.1.5 Flue gas return chamber (all welded design) connects burning chamber and tube bundle.

3.1.6 Single-stage tube bundle for intense heat transfer from flue gas to kilning air. Tube fixation and sealing in tube sheets by mechanical expansion. Guiding plates along the tube bundle force the kiln air to flow around the heat exchanger tubes.

3.1.7 Flue gas collector with condensate drains downstream of tube bundle. Internal condensate piping connects with condensate collector (condensate drainage to sewage by others).

3.1.8 Flue gas fan (with expansion joints at in- and outlet) and recirculation ducting with adjusta ble (fixed setting) recirculation flap ensures negative pressure on flue gas side and NON free heating of kiln air. The supply air side pressure drop between glass tube heat ex changer and air heater shall be limited to approx. 10 daPa [0.40 in wc]. Flue gas fan to be mounted at a supporting beam of the burner room.

3.1.9 The air heater will be delivered in pre-fabricated parts and assembled on site together with the ancillary equipment to ready-to-operate unit.

3.1.10 Instrumentation: pressure indicators for flue gas negative pressure and kilning air pressure drop, temperature probes for burning chamber outlet temperature (max. 650°C) [1 ‘200F] and flue gas exhaust temperature.

3.1.11 Weishaupt burner with gas control system and local control panel (black box) with burner starter and actuator and interlocking system. Frequency drive for speed control of flue gas fan to be provided locally (e.g. Allen Bradley for 7.5 kW motor). Burner capacity control by PLC, 4 — 20 mA signal by others.

These are the gates that fit into the bottom of the original steep tank. They are made from two components.

Originally purchased to be used with the flaker it has never used.

Grain Mill

Four roller grain mill. Not a lot of history for this unit. No name Chinese made. Only top two rollers are currently set up to mill. Works great.

2 - 15,000 gallon water containers

These are the containers we used to acclimate our water temperatures prior to soaking grains. Each holds 15,000 gallons and they insured that we would have plenty of water for each batch we ran through our system. Two 2 HP SAER pumps were used to move the water to the steep tanks as seen in the image. Tanks stand approx 20 feet tall and 2 foot in diameter.
