There was standing room only as ‘The Once’ hit the Vermilion Folk Club stage on January 28, at the Vermilion Legion. Drawing the crowd in lead vocalist, Geraldine Hollett had the audience snapping along in no time. A range of emotions were experienced throughout the evening as their lyrics told stories of related life experiences. While introducing their song, “ Gonna Get Goo d,” Churc hill said it was a song about bringing out the inner child in people. “You should let that kid out now and then - to have fun and make mistakes,” encouraged Churchill, confident that people’s “wrinkly”, responsible selves would clean up the mess later. They credit their intent as being the only thing new about their music, and mentioned that each album has helped them to evolve to the place they are at today. “ We need to do what feels right;

people will tell you if they see dishonesty in your performance. The more honest and real we are with what we do, the better off we are,” said Geraldine Hollett. With their members all being from small communities, they always enjoy performing in small towns. ‘The Once’ remembered bits and pieces of Vermilion from their previous tour stop here three years ago. Most familiar was the potluck table at the Vermilion Folk Club prior to their performance. “It’s like 50 homemade meals in one night,” said Hollett.
