Bagpipes, Kilts, Dance And Haggis Galore At Robbie Burns Night

The Mannville Robbie Burns night hosted an evening of Scottish flavor to the crowds that attended on January 21. Everything Scottish was on the menu including a traditional Haggis dish, Kilts were sported everywhere, bagpipers from the Lakeland Pipe and Drum Band sounded and the Mannville Vermilion Highland Dance Club kicked their legs high in celebration. Scotland’s famous poet Robbie Burns died, the celebrations on or near his birthday (January 25) are held all over Canada and the world. “The Robbie Burns night is something the people from Mannville and Vermilion really enjoy and we love having the two communities come together. They enjoy the entertainment with the dance and the haggis is something we don’t get to see,” said Nicole Polishuk, the event president. “It was a successful night and we were very close to sold out. from the night will go towards paying for the Highland Dance Association expenses. Marty Jackson is our graduating member this year, this is her last year and she has danced with us for 13 years,” added Polishuk. The address to the Haggis was said by Dr. Stewart Hunter and the Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Mike Schalin. A highlight of the evening was the choreographed dancing by the Mannville Vermilion Highland Dance Club. Five

dance groups, along with the Wee Lassies and Adults, performed numbers including; Irish Jig, the Sword Dance and Donkey Dance. A lot of people in attendance said the evening was of special interest to them because of their Scottish heritage.
