Thirty teams of curlers including all ages and backgrounds gathered at the Vermilion Farm Curl from January 12 - 14, to enjoy a weekend of curling, sportsmanship, and comradery. “Vermilion Farm Curl has a longstanding history, for over 65 years it has annually been a time of entertainment and hospitality for everyone involved. It is a good way to encourage comradery and friendship within the community. It’s a respite in the middle of a very cold winter, and an opportunity for a bit of
exercise and some fun,” said Committee Chairman, Rick Wasylik. This year ’s opening ceremonies were led by Kerri Sinclair bagpiping down the sheet of ice, followed by local dignitaries and the first ten teams to play. M ay o r B r u c e M a c D u f f, Ve r m i l ion Curling Club President Andrew McCrae, Vermilion Agricultural Societ y President Jay Sinclair, Vermilion Chamber of Commerce President Robert Ernst, and County of Vermilion River Reeve Darryl Watt each threw one stone to kick off the bonspiel.
“I’d like to personally thank Kerri Sinclair for stepping in on such short notice,” said Wasylik. Piping for 35 years, Sinclair is part of the Lakeland Pipes and Drums Band and made her first ever appearance at the Farm Curl in Vermilion this year.
