“Success is participation,” said Sandra Miller, the chair of the sixth annual Spring Art Show that took place at the Regional Centre on April 15. A tremendous turn out including the artists, the sponsors and the public, attended the art show opening night. Patrons and admirers viewed and purchased works from the 54 local participating artists, and everyone had positive comments to make. “This year we have 54 artists, which is amazing because the show has grown from 26 artists last year. Out of the 54 local participating artists this year, three are men,” said Miller. “The Potters Guild have eight people showing, Vegreville Visual Arts have five attending and we have eight artists from the Vermilion Art Club this year.” “It’s seems that our show has really taken off this year. We had to purchase quite a bit more equipment this year in order to set up the show due to its going success,” added Miller. The crowd soaked up the creative atmosphere while enjoying
a glass of wine, some cheese and listening to the relaxing background music by singer/songwriter Catherine Lewans. Miller said it is important for artists to show their work, especially for the first time. Up and coming artist, Kate Berrecloth is a self taught artist who showed her work for the first time at the show. Berrecloth, who works in acrylics and mixed media, says her work is organic and inspired by art nouveau. Her piece ‘Zen Heart’ attracted a lot of attention from attendees. Berrecloth describes her style as ‘wispy, flowy and curly.’ “I start out with an idea of where I want to go and I let the brush take me.” Artist Kerri Arthur, who started taking art under Sandra Miller in 2008, says that she is now addicted. “It’s so peaceful. I work as a nurse, and when I can, I do my art. I never knew I had any talent and I was terrified when I took my first art course but after that I was hooked. I get my creative juices going with acrylic and when I really want to get intense, I use oil,” said Arthur. See more on page 13 and 21.
