titions to treat each performance as a learning experience. “We have a large variety of dancers participating in these competitions (ages 6 - 18 years) including a “boyz” hip hop group. We have just under 20 solos and duets competing.” Wald added that despite the fact the studio has only been open for five months; the groups

have all bonded well with the senior dancers helping out the younger dancers. The SHAPE dancers will he attending a second festival at the end of April and their first recital is on June 5th. “I’m very proud of our accomplishments thus far and can’t wait to see how the journey unfolds for us.”

The dancers from SHAPE Art and Wellness Studio had a dress rehearsal at Lakeland College’s Alumni Theatre on March 20 in preparation for their first competition in Camrose April 7 to 10. Main choreographer and co-owner of SHAPE, Leigha Wald said it is an exciting time for all of the dancers who will be heading to the competition. “Everyone has a great attitude and the SHAPE dancers are excited to give each performance their best effort while supporting each other through it,” she added. “The majority of the choreography is by me, with guest choreographers taking on some of the solos and group pieces,” said Wald. One of the numbers the dancers rehearsed was called Where the Light Gets In which was a deeply personal number that Wald choreographed. Wald said she purposely did not tell the dancers what the number meant to her as she wanted them to make their own connections and interpretations. The vivid red flowing dresses worn for this number were visually arresting and make their own statement on stage swaying and flowing Senior Floor Curling Tournament with each dancer’s moves.
