1997 GLOBAL EXPERTISE GOES TRANS-TASMAN

OUR SIGNATURE CONTRACT: PAPAKURA (NZ) FRANCHISE, 1997 - 2047 Operated in a franchise agreement with full responsibility of all aspects of service provision, including billing and investment, on behalf of the asset owner, Watercare.

As franchisee in Papakura, we are in the shoes of the client, but we ensure that our operation meets the needs of the asset owner – Watercare. We align our service to Watercare’s strategic priorities:

With full responsibility of all aspects of service delivery in a franchise agreement, and a long tenure, our Papakura contract is our showcase contract in New Zealand of Veolia capability.

Customer focus – including public health protection and response times - by having a front-line workforce trained to understand the importance of courtesy and professionalism, backed by proven workflows to resolve service issues efficiently.

It is the first New Zealand site to attain ISO55001 certification, the first New Zealand contract to implement our smart underground asset management digital solutions, and the first New Zealand contract to implement our integrated operational management platform Hubgrade Network Hypervision.

Business excellence – including asset management, condition assessment and community growth - by bringing to bear the full benefit of our global expertise in leading-edge asset management recently validated through our ISO55001 certification.

Fully sustainable – including compliance with environmental regulation - by ensuring that our activities fully comply with the Resource Management Act and all other environmental obligations.

In the Asset Management space the power of Digital is clear: it is a value-enabler, allowing asset owners to make confident, targeted, evidencebased investment decisions.

THE NEXT GENERATION: AARON REI, CAPITAL WORKS OPERATOR I’ve been with the Veolia capital works team in Papakura for four years and the support for ongoing development is great!

I’ve recently focused on my Bachelor of Management Studies with Honours, and it’s been great to have the flexibility to study during term, and to stay part of the team during semester break. This keeps my practical skills sharp and helps pay the bills.

I can’t wait to see what opportunities are available in Veolia once I’ve finished my studies.

2007 RECYCLED WATER TO FIGHT THE MILLENNIUM DROUGHT

OUR SIGNATURE CONTRACT: THE WESTERN CORRIDOR RECYCLED WATER SCHEME (WCRWS) OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT (2007 TO 2032)

OUR COMMITMENT The principal aim of the work was to help ensure the security of South East Queensland’s water supply by reducing the dependency on sources vulnerable to climate change and make purified recycled water available to power stations, industry and agriculture and for indirect potable reuse.

The infrastructure we operate and maintain incorporates:

The Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme is located in South-East Queensland and was built in response to the millennium drought.

Construction of Scheme began in 2007, with the scheme designed to provide Purified Recycled Water (PRW) to Wivenhoe Dam. As the largest urban drought initiative in Australia – the project has a supply capacity of just over 230 megalitres a day (mld). The Queensland Audit Office (2012) reported the actual outturn cost for the Scheme was $2.293 billion (AUD).

Three advanced water treatment plants (AWTPs), located at Luggage Point, Gibson Island and Bundamba

Pipelines (220km), pump stations and balance tanks, which convey water to and from the AWTPs.

The AWTPs and pipeline infrastructure is owned by Seqwater and operated by Veolia.

The AWTPs process treated wastewater through clarification, microfiltration (MF), reverse osmosis (RO), advanced oxidation and stabilisation technologies to produce PRW. The WCRW scheme was operated as required to supply water to the power stations.

OUR PEOPLE MAKING A DIFFERENCE THE EXPERT: MATTHEW HUSTON, PROCESS ENGINEER Matthew has been working in the water industry for the past 15 years, having first joined Veolia as an Operator in 2008 and is now the Scheme Process Engineer at Western Corridor.

Matthew has had the opportunity to work on a number of projects in various roles during his time with Veolia including the Western Corridor, QGC and Gold Coast Desalination projects.

Matthew is driven to continually meet the challenges of an ever changing environment, share knowledge and seek strategies for improved efficiencies and outcomes.

THE NEXT GENERATION: ANISHA AERY, PROCESS ENGINEER Anisha has been in the water/waste water industry for over 6 years and has been with AWTP O&M team for the last 3 years.

Anisha was the restart engineer for the recent reinstatement of the pipeline assets. He is driven to make everyday operations more efficient.

2009 DESALINATION AS AN ALTERNATIVE WATER SUPPLY

OUR SIGNATURE CONTRACT: KURNELL SYDNEY WATER DESALINATION PLANT (2010 TO 2030) Sydney Desalination Plant Pty Ltd, SDP is jointly owned by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board and Morrison & Comanaged Utilities Trust of Australia (UTA).

The Sydney Desalination Plant was built to secure Sydney’s water supply against drought and climate change through a non rainfall dependent supply.

The plant produces a nominal 250 ML/d of high quality drinking water, which is approximately 15% of Sydney’s water demand.

OUR COMMITMENT Veolia was part of the Blue Water Joint Venture which carried out the Design and Construction of the Plant and has been contracted to carry out the O&M services for the plant since completion of construction.

OUR FUTURE AMBITIONS The plant has been designed to be capable of expanding to double capacity (500 ML/d) in the future to meet the requirements of Sydney’s customers.

OUR PEOPLE MAKING A DIFFERENCE THE EXPERT: AMID AKHYANI, TECHNICAL MANAGER Amid has a background in operations, commissioning, design and consulting, working in various sectors of water treatment. Amid joined Veolia in 2015 as a Project Engineer and is now Process Manager of the Sydney Desalination Plant.

Through his career Amid has travelled and worked on projects in 14 different countries, providing him with exposure to different innovations, technologies and solutions for problems within the industry.

- “As an engineer who has gone through Veolia’s first graduate program, Garrick is a process engineer who is passionate about driving innovation through data driven analytics and automation. Garrick constantly seeks to create process improvement in the water space through his analytical and programming expertise and aspires to continue to bring positive changes to all the teams he works with.”

THE NEXT GENERATION: GARRICK LAI, PROCESS ENGINEER As an engineer who has gone through Veolia’s first graduate program, Garrick is a process engineer who is passionate about driving innovation through data driven analytics and automation.

2009 DESALINATION AS AN ALTERNATIVE WATER SUPPLY

OUR SIGNATURE CONTRACT: GOLD COAST DESALINATION PLANT (2008 TO 2023) In 2006, south-east Queensland was experiencing its worst water shortage in over 100 years, with over 60% of the area in drought.

OUR COMMITMENT Later that year, Veolia joined an alliance in charge of designing, constructing and commissioning the plant to achieve first water by November 2008 and commenced supply on 26 February 2009.

The Gold Coast Desalination Plant is a climate-independent source of water that ensures South East Queensland’s water security in times of drought and extreme weather.

The Plant is able to provide an average of 125 megalitres per day of water to the network, which is enough drinking water for more than 650,000 people.

OUR PEOPLE MAKING A DIFFERENCE THE EXPERT: VINAY MUPPALA, PLANT MANAGER Vinay has a Chemical Engineering background with experience in the water industry, has background in installation, commissioning and operation of water treatment plants. Vinay started with Veolia in 2012 as Water Quality Process Engineer at Gold Coast Desalination Plant and has developed his career to lead the team at GCDP. Vinay has a strong focus on operations efficiency to deliver value to the customer, developing the team and implementing innovations.

THE NEXT GENERATION: JONATHAN JO, PROCESS ENGINEER Jonathan joined Veolia as a Graduate Engineer in early 2020 and is now a Process Engineer at Gold Coast Desalination Plant. Through his time at various water treatment facilities in QLD and NSW, Jonathan witnessed the organisation’s reach and contribution to communities, industries and the environment.

He seeks to capitalise on the opportunity, through Veolia, to further contribute to society by helping solve pressing challenges with best and sustainable practices.

- “Being able to grow alongside a great group of people all whilst having a hand in developing access, preserving and replenishing resources is, to me, a privilege and I wish to make the most out of it.”

OUR COMMITMENT In Oct.2001 Veolia Environnement and the AAD signed a cooperation agreement in the area of waste management in Antarctica. The first of a number of cooperative agreements with countries operating in Antarctica, including CONAMA (Chile), October 2002, and IPEV (France), July 2003.

The cooperative agreements were for a period of 10years It was intended that Veolia would work with the AAD, CONAMA and IPEV to overcome technical obstacles in the area of transport, water & waste treatment, energy.

Following on from this Veolia partnered with the University of Melbourne, Victoria University and others as part of the

AWRCoE and AAD funded Robust Recycling Project. The aim was to develop advanced water recycling processes to treat station sewage to produce highly purified water that poses zero toxicity risk to the pristine Antarctic environment.

OUR FUTURE AMBITIONS Most recently Veolia has worked with the AAD Remediation program, which is a multi-year and multi-disciplinary program to remediate legacy diesel spills in Antarctica. Veolia has been providing expert operational and technical support to the program since 2015. »

OUR PEOPLE MAKING A DIFFERENCE THE EXPERT: KATHY NORTHCOTT, R&D MANAGER In 2000 I quit my job as a power station operator to do a PhD on water treatment for contaminated site remediation in Antarctica.

The AAD Remediation Program is when I decided I wanted to work in the water industry, and where I first got to know the team at Veolia.

- “What I’ve learned over 20+ years working in the water industry is that your water career journey is as interesting and rewarding as you want it to be.”

THE NEXT GENERATION: GAVIN ALLEN, PROJECT OPERATOR I’m a plumber by trade and have been working for Veolia for 11 years now. I have been fortunate through the secondment work I do with Veolia to work in Antarctica for the AAD Remediation Program commissioning and operating a small water treatment plant assisting with the clean up of diesel spills.

2015 was my first Antarctic secondment and I have just returned from my 4th season.

2013 WATER IN MINING

OUR SIGNATURE CONTRACT: VEOLIA O&M FOR QGC’S THREE WATER TREATMENT PLANTS 2013-2033 QGC is a leading coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on establishing the world’s first project to convert coal seam gas into liquefied natural gas.

OUR COMMITMENT Utilising a highly skilled team including electricians, instrument technicians, plant operators and water engineers, Veolia operates and maintains the water treatment plants ultrafiltration, ion exchange, reverse osmosis and brine concentration equipment in addition to pump stations and electrical substations.

THE NEXT GENERATION: LINDA NAPPA From her first undergraduate role in 2011, Linda’s career has closely paralleled Veolia’s water journey, demonstrating the agility required to adapt to changing water demands.

Abundant rain led to a ‘treechange’ from the Western Corridor and Sydney Desalination Plant projects to commission and operate two of the most innovative water in mining projects in Australia.
