01 COUNCIL GROVE PUBLIC LIBRARY park as library Council Grove, KS spring_23 The Council Grove Public Library’s design addresses the need to reestablish connections within its surroundings, aiming to ignite a spark of activity in a somewhat stagnant town. Positioned amidst a diverse array of businesses, residences, and a school, the library functions as a communal space, similar to a park, providing locals with a vibrant environment for gathering and learning. By incorporating a series of elevation changes, the park is divided into three zones—social, secluded, and merge—each contributing to shaping the library inside and out ensuring a smooth transition between its interior and exterior spaces.

02 EUREKA LOWRISE HOUSING unfolding experience of place Eureka, KS fall_23 Situated between a forest and a park in Eureka, KS, the Eureka Lowrise Housing Project is a response to the compelling experience with nature. In the midst of a small town grappling with a housing crisis, the objective was to deliver ten housing units for the residents of Eureka. The project revolves around the journey of navigating through the forest, arriving at a beautiful destination. Comprising three bars, the project invites residents to immerse themselves in the experience of their natural surroundings. The interior spaces echo a comparable ambiance, creating moments of both intimacy and openness with nature, reminiscent of the forest.

03 FARM IMPLEMENT MUSEUM a movement forward Manhattan, KS fall_22 In response to the need for a space to showcase agricultural technology from the Agriculture Department at Kansas State University, the Farm Implement Museum seeks to reimagine the typical museum experience, aiming to embrace a forward-looking perspective. From the form to the exhibition spaces the musuem takes inspiration from the atonomous tractor. A tractor that is set to redifne the way farmers harvest crops through a more dynmic and fully automated machine.

The fluidity of the tractor is reflected in the museum’s architectural elements, seen in the use of a ramp that facilitates seamless transitions from one exhibition to another.

04 KAW RIVER CULTURE CENTER stones of the land Topeka, KS fall_23

The Kaw River Culture Center, situated in Topeka, KS, offers a space to display, celebrate, and congregate the six indigenous tribes that historically inhabited Topeka’s land. Emphasizing the profound relationship between the indigenous community and the land, the center’s design fosters intimate moments for visitors to learn and celebrate indigenous culture within its surroundings. Divided into sperate masses across the s ite, r eminiscent of stones, these masses are linked by a central corridor, enabling users to freely explore exhibitions and performances.
