The Difference is Our People.

When you work with BMM you aren’t hiring the person, you are hiring the whole company. This is an important part of what makes us who we are. We sat down with our Director of Maintenance and Staff Development Coordinator to find out their thoughts on what makes BMM unique.

Q: Tells us who you are, how long you have worked at BMM, and what your role at BMM is:

Dane: I am Dane Anderson, I have been with the company for over 6 years, and I am the Director of Maintenance. I am mainly responsible for taking care of our customers, the overall training of our Techs, and being available to support them when they need it.

Robert: My name is Robert Davis, I have been with BMM for over 22 years, and I am the Staff Development Coordinator. My job is to train all our technicians on how to be professional, proficient Maintenance Technicians. I also support our staff out in the field if they need help or need an extra set of hands with something.

Q: Robert, what types of training do you do?

Robert: We have a fantastic, full-scale training facility that I get to work in with our techs. It is an apartment minus the drywall complete with electricity and water. We have a several month training program for those that have no real experience in maintenance but want to learn and have a professional attitude. We offer this training four times a year to two Apprentice Maintenance Techs at a time. It is extremely hands-on.

For those that have been in the maintenance industry before I bring them into the training center and put them through their paces. For example, how do they enter an apartment, do they bring tools with them, are they in uniform, and do they know how to complete the work order. If they don’t feel confident in something I work with them to

learn how to fix the problem correctly the first time.

We also have ongoing training throughout the year to help our techs learn new skills or improve their skills.

Q: What types of things do you work on in the training center?

Dane: We work on everything from plumbing to electrical, appliances to drywall. It is a great space to learn and make mistakes, so you are confident on the work you do at our customer’s properties.

Q: What happens if you have a tech out at a customer’s property and they don’t know how to fix the problem?

Robert: That’s the great thing about BMM. If someone gets stuck, they don’t have to rely on google or YouTube for the answers. The tech can reach out to me, and I can talk them through the problem on the phone or via video, or I can come out to the property and show them how to fix it. That way the next time they run into that issue they know what to do.

Q: What do you like most about working at BMM?

Dane: When I walk into a leasing office, meet with the Property Manager, and they tell me how good a job we are doing at their property. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told about our Tech’s going above and beyond for our customers. Even if a Property Manager has an issue, I am there to help. We have the resources available to work with that tech and help them improve.

Robert: For me, it is being able to pass on my knowledge that I have learned over several decades in the industry. I am constantly learning new things and I love how as a company we share that information with each other. Just because someone is new doesn’t mean they don’t have good ideas.
