The first Certificate course on Hospital Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship was successfully conducted from 20th to 24th June, 2016, by the Hospital Infection Control Committee, earning 30 credit points from the Tamil Nadu MGR University. 50 delegates in all took part in the course, comprising a mĂŠlange of clinicians, microbiologists and administrators from medical colleges, mission hospitals and private hospitals from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nepal. The course commenced with an inaugural function lead with prayer by Ms. Saramma Kuruvilla, Chaplain, followed by invocation by the Infection Control Nurses. Dr. Hema Paul, the Organising Secretary and Infection Control Officer, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Joy S Michael, Organising Chairperson and Secretary, HICC, laid out an overview of the course. Dr. Anna Pulimood, Vice Principal, HR, then emphasised the need for infection control and the role of antibiotic stewardship, in preventing hospital-acquired infections. Dr. Hema Paul proposed the vote of thanks. The course was designed to equip doctors on principles and practices of infection control and antimicrobial stewardship to enable them to function effectively and develop expertise in their respective areas.
