he 71st Independence Day celebration in the CMC community was observed with great patriotism. As per tradition the flag was hoisted in the main hospital campus, college campus and all the other campuses of the institution.

In the hospital campus, the flag hoisting began at 7.30 am, where Dr.J.V. Peter, Director Designate hoisted the flag. Mr.Chellasamy, Chief Security Officer inspected the parade.

Dr. Sukesh Chandran, Department of Clinical Pathology, hoisted the flag in the college campus, Bagayam. RUHSA Campus witnessed colourful and energetic dance performance of the medical sociology students as part of the Independence Day celebration.

For the very first time, Chittoor Campus, celebrated the 71 st Independence Day by hoisting the tricolor in the campus.

Educational Initiatives

2 nd Certificate course on Hospital Infection Control Antimicrobial Stewardship Short Course on Biostatistics and Epidemiology for Clinical and Public Health research using STATA The Department of Biostatistics organized a “Short Course on Biostatistics and Epidemiology for Clinical and Public Health research using STATA”, from July 31 - August 4, 2017. It was well attended by 40 participants from Medical, Dentistry, Social and Behavioral sciences from all over India. A series of lectures on Descriptive & inferential statistics, sample size calculations, study designs, validity & reliability measures and meta-analysis were taken with hands on practical using STATA software Trial version 15 . The participants were trained to do the analysis and interpret the results on their own. The Tamilnadu.

Dr. M.G.R. Medical University awarded 30 CME credit points to the participants.

Dr. B. Antonisamy, Professor and Course Coordinator, Department of Biostatistics welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of study design and statistical methods in medical research. He also emphasized the need to minimize bias in the planning of data collection. Dr. Jayaprakash Muliyil, Former Principal of CMC, Dr. Sathish Kumar, Child Health, Dr. Jacob John, Community Medicine, Mr. Richard Kirubakaran, Biostatistician, Cochrane, Dr. B. Antonisamy, Mrs. Mahasampath Gowri, Ms. Hepsy Chelliah & Ms. Sneha Princy, Biostatistics Department, CMC, were the resource faculties who imparted a wealth of information to the participants.

CME on Chest Imaging

Following a short prayer by Rev. Rajadeep, all the participants were given a warm welcome and an overview of the meeting was delivered by Dr. Sridhar Gibikote head of the Department, Radiology.

Dr. D.J. Christopher from the Department of Pulmonary Medicine addressed the gathering following which a lecture titled ‘HRCT in ILD – what a pulmonologist wants to know and treatment implications’ by Dr. Balamugesh, Department of Pulmonary Medicine; commenced.

The later part of the work shop was packed with discussions and queries which proved to be a useful and insightful experience for all the participants. The CME was a grand success and concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Shyamkumar N. Keshava.

The department of Radio diagnosis hosted a CME on Chest Imaging on 10th August, 2017. The CME was attended by delegates from departments of Radiology, Pulmonary medicine, Rheumatology, Haematology as well as by Dr. Srinivasan, Chairman, Vellore subchapter, IRIA and Dr. Madan Mohan, Treasurer, Vellore subchapter, IRIA and was awarded 5 credit points under category II by the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

Inauguration of state of the art endoscopic equipment The endoscopic ultrasound EUS - ME2 Premier Plus processor and Spyglass DS cholangiopancreaticoscopy system at the Endoscopy Services was dedicated on 8th August 2017. The availability of this advanced endoscopic equipment in the institution is expected to improve the care of patients with pancreatic and biliary diseases. The EUS-ME2 Premier Plus is a high quality endoscopic ultrasound processor which enhances characterization of lesions by employing the latest technologies like elastography, harmonic and H-flow imaging.

The Spyglass DS system facilitates direct visualization and endoscopic management of lesions within the biliary and pancreatic ducts.

The gathering was welcomed by Dr. Ebby Simon while Dr. Sudipta Dhar Chowdhury provided an overview of the equipment. The prayer of dedication was led by Ms. Saramma Kuruvilla following which Dr. Sunil Chandy, Director inaugurated and shared his thoughts on the occasion. Dr.C.E. Eapen, Medical Superintendent offered felicitations and the programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Amit Dutta.

• The following Doctors received gold medals at the 30th Annual Conference of All India Rhinology Society, RHINOCON 2017, held at Amritsar on 18th to 20th August, 2017.

Dr. Lalee Varghese, M.S., D.L.O., DNB (ENT) Associate Surgeon Grade 1 won the first prize in the Senior Consultant award category.

Dr. Vijayakumar Lukka, M.S., D.L.O., Post Doctoral Fellow won the first prize in the Junior Consultant award category.

• Dr. Piyush Gupta, 3rd year DM Gastroenterology student has won the INASL - ABBOTT presidential poster award 2017 for his research presentation during the 25th Annual Scientifice Meeting of Indian National Association for Study of the Liver held at New Delhi from 3rd to 6th August, 2017.

• Dr. Ramanan R., Assistant Professor, Neuro ICU has won the "J B Modi Best Paper Award" at the 26th Annual Conference of Neurotrauma Society of India, held on 11th to 13th August, 2017 at Ooty.

Retirement Mr. R. Sanjeevi, Accounts Officer Gr.I, RUHSA retired on 2nd August, 2017 after 36 years of devoted service to the institution. He joined RUHSA as accounts clerk in 1981 and promoted to accounts officer in 2004. In addition to keeping meticulous records of financial data of the department, he has also contributed to the management of community based projects, ASHUR society and handled classes on financial management for PG Diploma in Community Health Management students.

His wife Mrs. Jessie is a Senior Supervisor in BSNL. They are blessed with two daughters, Mrs. Jane & Ms. Jennie, Son-in-law, Mr.Ashok and a granddaughter Tripti.

The CMC community is grateful for his hardwork and dedication to the institution and wishes him a blessed and peaceful retirement.
