Transfusion Medicine Facilitates NACO-NBTC Blood Transfusion Services Training Programme

The Department of Transfusion Medicine, in partnership with Endocrinology :Dr. Nihal Jacob Thomas and Staff CMAI and CHAI has been awarded a PEPFAR grant, through CDC, Dr. Thomas V. Paul and Staff to work with the Government to improve national blood transfusion Mrs. Beulah Premkumar and Staff services. One of the important areas where they work as a technical partner with CMAI is to provide assistance to the National Aids Sunday Services : May 29, 2016 Control Organisation (NACO) and the National Blood Transfusion 6.00 pm : Exam Hall Building Council (NBTC) for capacity building. During this workshop series, Dr. C.E. Eapen they provided their expertise to assess their training centres and 6.30 pm : Hospital Chapel revise the training content with updated modules and audiovisual Dr. Sunil Abraham material for all levels of Blood Bank staff, with the support of experts from around the country. CMC was also designated as an Apex Day to remember : training centre for the South with the aim of providing the latest Death Anniversary of Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder - May 24 knowledge and promoting good blood bank practices. The Department of Transfusion Medicine conducted 7 workshops between November 2015 and March 2016 at CMC, for blood bank personnel from different NACO-supported blood banks across Tamil Nadu and Andaman. Of these, 2 workshops were for medical officers, 2 for blood bank nurses and 3 for laboratory technicians. Structured modules for training were provided to all trainees and power point presentations on carefully chosen topics were taught. Approximately 145 trainees attended these workshops. More than 20 department staff members including doctors, senior blood bank technicians and demonstrators, blood bank nurses and quality managers were actively involved in the training process. The national blood policy, donor selection and deferral status, blood camp organisation, blood grouping, cross-matching, antibody testing, transfusion-transmitted infections, biosafety and biomedical waste management, blood components, blood bank licensing, quality control and documentation were some of the topics reviewed. Interactive sessions and group tasks were included to make the programme more effective.

Grade Sr. Audiovisual Asst., Curriculum Office, and mother-in-law of Mrs. Gnanasoundari Ravichandran, Sr. Tutor, Community Health Department, College of Nursing on 17th May, 2016. Dr. Simon Annamma (nee Abraham) (Batch of 1943) on 17th May, 2016 in Coonnoor. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved members of the families at this time of grief and loss.
