Special Prayers:

The Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium Cognitio, organised by the Students Association, was held from 14th to 16th July, 2016. It was attended by nearly 360 students from medical colleges across the country. The 3-day symposium was opened with a formal ceremony which was graced by Director, Dr. Sunil Chandy, Principal, Dr. Alfred Job Daniel, Vice Principal (UG) Dr. Solomon Sathishkumar, Vice Principal (HR) Dr. Anna Pulimood and Vice Principal (Research) Dr. Biju George. The sessions scheduled for the first day included research-based workshops tailor-made for medical students. It included an interactive workshop on methodology and types of study designs by Dr. Gagandeep Kang, Head, Wellcome Trust Research Laboratory and Dr. JayaPrakash Muliyil, former Professor and Head, Community Health Department. It was followed by a session on literature review by Dr. Sarah Kessler, Assoc. Professor, Family Medicine, University of Kansas Medical Center and on ethics by Dr. Anu Rose, Associate Professor, Community Health Department. The day ended with a presentation by the BMJ team. The second day saw keynote addresses by Padma Shri Dr. Vijay Raghavan, Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology, Bangalore and Professor Sandhya S. Visweswariah, Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics, Indian Institute of Science. It also saw 66 research paper presentations, in the form of 16 oral presentations and 50 poster presentations. The best few chosen by a panel of judges were awarded prizes. The best oral presentation was from CMC, while the best poster presentation was from AIIMS, Bhopal. The medi-quiz Epidauria was held on the final day, which drew participation from 122 teams in the junior and senior quizzes.

Congratulations: Dr. Sam Pon Raj, Sr. Registrar (2nd Year M.Ch.Vascular Surgery) won the second prize for best overall academic performance at the Mid Term Vascular Society of India Postgraduate meeting held between 1st and 2nd July 2016 at Kerala.
