Balaji, Head of Clinical Microbiology and Dr.Sujith Chandy, Head of Clinical Pharmacology gave a brief report on the involvement of their respective departments in Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship within the Institution and the country. Certificate course on ‘Hospital infection control and Antimicrobial Stewardship’ was successfully conducted from 3rd to 7 th July 2017 at Christian Medical College by the Hospital Infection control committee in collaboration with Department of Clinical Microbiology and the Nursing services. This course was meant for training of trainers including Microbiologists, Clinicians and administrators involved in the infection control programme in their respective institutions. Thirty credit points were awarded by Tamil Nadu MGR University.

Mock Evacuation Drill A Mock drill to demonstrate the fire safety protocol was organized by the Safety Cell and the Quality Management Cell on the 1st of July 2017 in CB theater.

It began at 9am with a word of prayer by Ms. Florence Sekaran, Deputy Nursing Superintendent followed by a welcome address by Dr. Mark Ranjan, Deputy Director (OR). Dr. Lallu Joseph, Quality Manager described in detail the protocols and various levels of fire alerts. Ms. Sonia Sabu, Nurse Manager explained the evacuation routes and Assembly areas of CB Theatre. The mock drill was initiated by Dr. Mark Ranjan, Deputy Director (OR), Dr. Abhay Gahukamble, Deputy Medical Superintendent (OR), and Dr. Santosh Varghese, Deputy Director (Quality). The CERT Coordinator Dr. Debasis Das Adhikari proposed the vote of thanks and called to end the mock drill which proved to be a great learning experience for all the participants present at the programme.

Mr. Josam Titus retires Mr. E. Josam Titus, Superintending Engineer and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department retired from this Institution on 6th July 2017. He was graduated as a B.E., Mechanical Engineer in the year 1980 from the Annamalai University and holds a MBA degree from the same University.

He is a qualified ISO Lead Auditor and ISO Internal Auditor.

He joined Christian Medical College as the Superintending Engineer of Mechanical Engineering Department in the year 2008 and he was instrumental in revamping and equipping the entire department that included putting into place process improvements, systematic maintenance protocols for heavy machinery and the condensate water recovery system for energy conservation. He has served as Convener and Chairman of various committees. He has worked in the capacity of Deputy General Superintendent from 2010 to 2011 and as Associate General Superintendent from 2011 to 2015. His commendable role in framing policies and processes for Asset Recycling Office needs special mention.

His wife is Mrs. Sheba Eveline. Their daughter, Ms. Titty Ebeline holds a MBA degree and is currently working in an MNC in Chennai and son Mr. Tenin Joshua is a mechanical engineering graduate.

The CMC community thanks him for his many years of faithful and sincere services to the institution and wishes God’s blessings as he enters yet another phase of his life.

The 2nd annual workshop on “Current Concepts in Osteosynthesis-Basic”for post graduates and a CME on the “Basic Principles of Fracture Management” for Operating Room Nurses was conducted by the Department of Orthopaedics on 6th to 8th of July .

Following the workshop, the CME was held on the 8th of July for the nurses in the operation theatre. The programme began with Dr. Ramesh Babu, President of the Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association, inaugurating the programme with a talk on “Principles of Fracture Fixation” followed by various lectures given by in-house Nursing Faculty and Medical faculty. The CME was organised for the delegates to familiarize themselves with the latest instruments, implants and fixation techniques The CME was attended by 56 nurses and was awarded 20 credit points by the Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University.

The All Staff Retreat in English was held on Sunday, 2nd July, 2017 at New Exam Hall Bagayam. Mr.Philip Cherian, Director, Formations, Bangalore was the Key speaker. He spoke on the theme “Accept One Another” based on Romans 15:7 and enlightened the CMC community on building each other in God’s love. The retreat was attended by 160 participants. A separate session was held for children.

Chaplaincy thanks Mr. Philip Cherian for his spiritual insights to the community.

• Dr. Rosh Varghese Georgy, PG Registrar from Radiology Department won the 1st prize in Postgraduate case

presentation during the West Zone CME on Fetal Medicine and State IRIA Monthly Meet held on 18th June, 2017 in Coimbatore.

• Dr. Jacquline Jose, Junior Registrar was awarded the 1st prize for the paper titled ‘Cutaneous lichen amyloidosis in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A - a common cutaneous manifestation in an common cancer syndrome’ by Jacquline Jose1, Renu George1, Venkat Raman1, Nitin Kapoor2, Nihal Thomas2, Rekha Pai3, Reetu John4 (Departments of DVL Unit-I, Endocrinology, Molecular Pathology and Radiology) presented at the 4th Dermatology and Allied Specialties Summit in July 2017 at New Delhi.

• Dr. Mohan S. Kamath, Professor, Reproductive Medicine Unit, has been made the full time Editor for Cochrane Gynaecology and Fertility group, Cochrane collaboration, effective from the month of July.

Obituary Late. M. Sathish Kumar, Hospital Attendant Gr.III, PMO (R.P), has departed to be with Lord on 10th July, 2017. He joined CMC in 2006. He is survived by his father, Mr. Munisamy retired Hospital Attendant from Mental Health Centre.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved members of the family at this time of grief and loss.

Retirements

Mrs. Lilly Pushpam, Health Centre Auxiliary Gr.I, RUHSA (Rural Unit for Health and Social Affairs) retired on 8th June 2017 after 38 years of service to the institution. Her husband, Mr. Gunasekaran, retired as a driver in a private concern. They are blessed with two children, Mr. Kumaresan and Mr. Cornelius who is a Staff Nurse in CMC.

Mrs. Balaseshamma, Hospital Housekeeping Attendant Gr.II, PMO (R.P) retired on 1st June, 2017 after 21 years of dedicated service to the institution. She has three sons, Mr. Murugesan who is working as Hospital House Keeping Attendant in Hospital Maintenance, Mr. Vasantha Kumar who is a Hospital House Keeping Attendant in Neuro Ward and Mr. Arun Kumar who is working as Hospital House Keeping Attendant in ISSCC OPD.
