Short Course in Hospital Infection Control for Nurses Special Prayers:

The Office of the Nursing Superintendent, in collaboration with the Hospital Infection Control Committee, successfully conducted their third 1-week Short Course for Nurses of Mission and private hospitals from 1st to 6th August, 2016. The Course was designed as an update on knowledge and skills pertaining to Hospital Infection Control, through lectures by Medical and Nursing faculty, practical sessions, field visits, Microbiology laboratory visits, skill stations and group discussions. The Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, Chennai, sanctioned 30 credit hours to the participants. A total of 40 delegates were registered, representing 19 hospitals from across India. The inaugural ceremony was led in devotion by Rev. Rajdeep Samal, Chaplain and attended by Nursing Superintendent, Dr. Premila Lee, Addl. Deputy Nursing Superintendent, Mrs. Regina Xavier, Vice Principal (PG) and HICC Secretary, Dr. Joy Sarojini Michael and HIC Officer, Dr. Hema Paul. Aims and objectives of the course were defined at the outset, with a pretest for participants. Sessions on variegated aspects of Infection Control – Antibiotic Stewardship, Accreditation and Quality – were organised and participants were encouraged to develop Infection Control Committees in their own facilities. There were visits to CSSD, Waste Disposal sites, OR and Joint Replacement room. Methods of environment surveillance, detection of antibiotic resistance and testing of disinfectants were
