Miss. Monica Sutton (Lab Technician) and Miss. Vera Nowell (Pharmacist) converted a cowshed into a dispensary. Dr. Pauline Jeffrey from CMC, sent by Aunt Ida, joined forces to help the medical work. Dr. Lydia Herluffson of Danish mission had played a special role. Over the years, many, including CMC alumni have contributed to bringing about significant improvement in the health status of the region. In recent times the hospital has been struggling to keep up with the demand and thus requested CMC’s help.

The Director of CMC Dr. Sunil Chandy, expressing his happiness, mentioned the strategic location of the hospital on the hilltop and likened it to a lamp on a hill. Referring to Psalm 121, he thanked God for the provision of willing people and His watchful eyes, as CMC will explore ways of sustaining and developing the hospital to a self-sufficient one.

n 30th August 2017, a MOU was signed between the CMC Vellore Association and the Kotagiri Medical Fellowship Trust.

The 50-bedded hospital which started in 1937, had approached CMC for help in sustaining the healthcare services it provides in the Nilgiris.

30th August being the birth anniversary of Dr. Pauline Jeffrey will henceforth be observed as Founders Day. Dr. George Kurian, who had served as a KMF Trustee and knew Dr. Jeffrey personally, spoke few words about her.

Others representing CMC included Dr. Premila Lee, Dr. Sukria Nayak, Dr. Winsley Rose, Dr. Achamma Chandy, Mr. Roby Sundarsingh, Dr. Sam David and Miss. Bency Chhatria.

It was indeed a joyous moment for CMC, as mission is at the heart of its ministry, and constantly engages with its network of mission hospitals to both ensure their relevance and revive struggling ones. Workshop on ‘Completing Systematic Reviews’ The Cochrane Centre, Bagayam organized a Workshop on ‘Completing Systematic Reviews’ on August 21st to 25th, 2017. The workshop was attended by participants from Melaka-Manipal Medical College, Buangkok Green Medical Park, Singapore and Advanced Physiotherapy Centre, Chhattisgarh.

Professor Prathap Tharyan, Director, Cochrane South Asia and Dr. Thambu David, Cochrane South Asia, provided lectures and individual guidance to the participants on meta-analysis and GRADE approach followed by Statistical and Search Strategy support by the Cochrane South Asia Team.

The function was presided over by Dr. P.Vijayaraghavan Vice Chancellor, Sri Ramachndra University and MCI representative. Dr.P.Vijayaraghavan took a CME session on “Challenges in Medical Education” and also distributed the certificates for the ‘Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME)’ for 1 st Batch (2014) and course completion documents to the successful participants of other batches of Advance Course in Medical Education.

The Chittoor CMC campus celebrated the first anniversary of the operation theatre complex on 31st August, 2017 which has enabled to conduct more than 1600 surgeries during the last one year. It was an occasion of great joy remembering the goodness and faithfulness of our Lord.

He highlighted the humble beginnings and how God has greatly blessed the endeavor. He also thanked all the surgical units for their earnest efforts and co-operation. Following which, there was a meaningful sharing of experiences of the past one year by various surgeons like Dr.Vrisha Madhuri (Head of the Department, Paediatric Orthopaedics), Dr. Deepak Abraham (Professor, Department of Endocrine surgery), Dr.Banerjee (Former Head of the Department of Surgery) and Dr. V.T.K. Titus (Professor, Department of Orthopaedics).

The meeting was also addressed by the Former Associate Director of Chittoor, Dr.Raju Titus who expressed his joy over the growth and developments in the campus. The General Superintendent and the Deputy Nursing Superintendent expressed their appreciations to the entire surgical team of CMC Chittoor campus.

The programme came to an end with an interesting skit by the theatre staff and an elaborate cake cutting ceremony led by Dr. Nandhini (Anesthesia). The theatre in charge staff, Sister Sheila proposed the vote of thanks. No doubt this is a milestone in the medical services of CMC Chittoor campus.

Dr. Kurien Anil Kuruvilla, Professor of Neonatology is appointed as Associate Director (Kannigapuram) with effect from 8th September 2017 for a four year term. ,Dr. Anna Simon, Professor of Paediatrics and Head of the Division of Child Health is appointed as Head of Pediatrics Unit -1 with effect from 28th August 2017 till her superannuation.

Dr. Valsan Philip Verghese, Professor of Paediatrics, will continue as Head of Paediatrics Unit –III till further notice.

Dr. Sukria Nayak, Professor of Surgery and Head of Surgery Unit –IV is appointed as Head of the Department of General Surgery and Division of Surgery with effect from 30th August 2017 till his superannuation.

Dr. Pranay Gaikwad, Professor of Surgery is appointed as the Head of Surgery Unit-I with effect from 30th August 2017 for a four year term.

practice in her hospital in Puthencavu. Dr. Joyce had apparently suffered several cardiac ischaemic episodes, but had soldiered on at her hospital in Puthencavu, Chenganoor, Kerala, giving her best to all her patients.

The funeral will be conducted in Puthencavu, Kerala on Monday, 11th September 2017.
