Independence Day Celebrations ‘Children are like buds in a garden and should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow’.

- Jawaharlal Nehru It is necessary to develop patriotism amongst children right from early days. To develop the sense of patriotism, they should be encouraged to learn the history of our great nation. The parents, teachers and the community should inculcate the same in the young minds and ensure they understand the value of Independence.

Hands-on, Experiential Learners; they learn by doing.

To celebrate the 72nd Independence Day, around 650 VNGK students of Surapet campus together formed the map of India.

Editorial ‘Bliss was it at that dawn to be alive; to be young was heaven’ This is how I felt when I first entered the UKG class I was to teach at the beginning of my career as a teacher.

Every child taught me how to teach in their own way. This is when I realised that we can never teach the young and versatile minds but only provide them with an experience that nurtures learning.

Our philosophy of education at Velammal New Gen Kids is summarised in the famous saying by Albert Einstein:

I always believe that the best mind for learning is shaped in the KG classes. The credit of course is shared by the teacher, parents, neighbour and the grand parents. The gaps sometimes, though unintentional, is the short comings of one of the above said people.

“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of mind to think.”

A parent, however, can make good any gap by being patient with their child and allow them to grow in its own time and style. May be add value by being non indulgent, firm, insisting on few ground rules, help children long for whatever they want for sometimes to understand the worth of wants and by practicing what they preach to their children.

- Albert Einstein I wish all the young parents all the very best in bringing up their children and hope VNGK would play a substantial role in developing a thinking and curious mind.

And let me share a secret with young parents; no child can ever be less than the average capabilities of the father and mother put together according to Charles Darwin.

Parent Orientation Program and 1st Day in School

establish a successful partnership between school and parents for the child’s development.

The main aim of this programme was to give parents an opportunity to understand the curriculum, followed by the introduction of the class teachers, daily rules and regulation of the school. By the end of this program parents understood what happens in the class and how the child experiences learning.

- Robert John Meehan 1st Day in School Anxiety, excitement, joy and curiosity filled the KG building as the preschoolers walked into the gates on their first day of formal schooling on 4th June 2018. It was wonderful to hear the children start their day with a prayer followed by playing with toys which were kept all over the class.

According to a research study by Ronald Fe r g u s o n , " N e a r l y h a l f o f a c h i l d ' s achievement in school can be accounted for by factors outside the school, including parent support." Consequently, the most important support any child can receive comes from the parents. This support ranges from being responsible for making sure that the child arrives at school well-rested, well-fed, and ready to learn, to setting high expectations for their child.

Children had a great time at the school and teachers welcomed the students. Each child was crowned by the teacher and parents introduced their children by their name with the positive habit of the child which made them feel very special.

At VNGK, we strongly believe that Parents are integral part of the child development and focus on Parent Engagement Program to

Activities: Bob the Builder

Sharing Food

The KG learners were engaged with a fun learning activity to explore construction that empowered them to work as a team with imagination. Kids used blocks to build the building. This enhances the fine motor, social and emotional development of the child.

We all know the importance of a well balanced diet for good cause. But eating right is challenging in our over processed and fast food world. Our children were encouraged to bring healthy snacks and share with each of their friends.

Grandparent’s Day Grandparents are the family’s strong foundation.

Through their special love and care, grandparents keep a family close at heart. Students enjoyed seeing their grandparents in the school campus. There were activities like story telling, ball games, blind fold games, art and craft. Grandparents participated with great zeal and enthusiasm which became a very successful event.

We are listening: Parent’s Corner and that’s it” but when they learn it practically they understand it better.

The children of the current generation have a greater IQ than us.

The next one is the grand parent’s day celebration.

Nearly 90% of us live in a nuclear family where only parents and kids stay. Most of our kids are deprived of the affection from their grandparents. This day would have brought happiness to both the kid and the grandparents.

Even for a few, this day might have been a chance to visit their grandchildren. This event also gave a platform to the grandparents to cook healthy recipes for their grandchildren.

“A school is a second home and the teachers are the second parent”.

True to these words, “Velammal” stands unique in their education and communication system. The model-based learning, phonic-sound-based blending, and events organised are the few that have added feathers to the cap of Velammal as well as the students. Every child is different and they are treated the uniquely. The events inculcate competitive nature among the kids. The training programs motivate the parents as well. I just want to specify two things in particular.

Hope there would be more innovations that would lead to the growth of the students as well the school.

I wish all the very best to all the teachers, the students and the school to excel with flying colours.

DIY: Activities to engage children

Steps: 1.

Creative Pattern with Shaving cream Materials Required: 1.

A4 Chart Paper – 2 Numbers

Shaving Cream – 1 Number

3.

Liquid Colour – Small Bottle / Tube

4.

A Small Stick -1 number

Keep one A4 size chart on the table and apply

Drop the colours as shown in the picture

3.

Use the stick to spread all over.

Keep one chart on it and press gently

5.

Take the chart and remove the excess shaving cream

Leave it to dry. Use it for making boxes, frames etc

Staff Speaks: Being Our Best The early years of child’s life is critical for optimal development and provide the foundation for success in school and in life. It is a fact that 90% of brain development happens before the age of 6. Parents are the first and most influential teachers for their children.

This can leave time-poor parents feeling stressed, guilty and concerned that they need to do more for their children, so they miss out dinner time, family time etc..

Inculcating habits in children should be the custom in everyday’s routine. “We believe that the best way to inspire a quality, or even a habit, in our kids is to cultivate it in ourselves.”

For Instance: If you want your child to brush twice a day, do it yourself. If you want your child to study in the evenings, do it yourself and the children will learn to do the same.

Be a good role model, you don’t have to be perfect all the time. As a parent, it is extremely important for you to set down the routines for your children.

Set out fixed hours for playtime, homework, screen time and bed time etc.. Try to make a flexible routine and don’t be too strict, while allocating time for study and play. Keep adequate time for playing, as play helps in both physical and mental development.
