Just as many have vast but distant memories of their childhood home, I share some with the few who were actually born and raised in Las Vegas. The growth of the city, including the building of masterplanned communities beyond Rainbow to the west and Russell to the south, and the demolishing of iconic hotels, was exciting as a youngster, yet “normal.”

However, I had a home from which I could see the shimmering lights of the Strip, reminding me I was in a unique and magical place. My family and I visited the many hotels/casinos for their attractions, entertainment, and restaurants. Having a parent employed by a major hotel/casino made touring these landmarks even more personal and uplifting.

Out-of-towners would often ask, “People actually live in Las Vegas?!” to which I would respond, “Of course!” I had normal schools to attend, and habitually visited parks, movie theaters, and shopping malls.

Las Vegas has always made me feel welcomed and comforted. I am thankful for the extensive memories Vegas has given me, those I share with few and far between. I look forward to the thousands more memories around the corner, and I am proud to call Las Vegas HOME.

WHO ARE YOUR TOP 3 GYMNASTS? My top three gymnasts are Simone Biles, Nastia Liukin, and Jade Carey. Simone is literally the greatest gymnast of all time and I respect her for standing up for what she believes in. Nastia has the prettiest gymnastics I have ever seen and she even has a big gymnastics competition named after her. Jade Carey is one of the hardest workers I have ever met. When I first met her, we were both level 10s and now she has worked her way up to the elite level.

WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO ASPIRING GYMNASTS? To all of the young and aspiring gymnasts, I would say to work hard and never stop believing in yourself. The first meet I ever competed in, I was 6 years old and fell on literally every event and came in last place. I have had coaches in the past say I was not good enough to reach the division 1 collegiate level, but that never stopped me and pushed me to work harder every day.

My absolute favorite place that I think everyone should try is Bowlology. They have the best acai bowls in the business. They have good vibes and delicious food.

Topgolf is another fun place that people should experience in Vegas. There is a great atmosphere and is fun with a big group of friends.

Lastly, Mount Charleston is the place that everyone should visit. If you are an outdoorsy person, this is definitely the place for you!

LAST YEAR WAS A VERY CHALLENGING YEAR FOR MOST OF US, HOW DO YOU ANTICIPATE 2021?

Luckily in 2020, real estate in Las Vegas was deemed an essential service and it was a very good year for real estate. The challenge was clients were afraid to put their home on the market for sale during the pandemic for several reasons, including how to show their home in a safe and sanitary way and do open houses during that time, and also the biggest reason was that during lockdown people saw how important their homes really were. They saw that our home is our “castle,” and a sanctuary where we spent a lot of our time last year.

A good thing that came out of that was people did a lot of upgrades to their home during that time, and also began to see that their current home or living situation was a little too small for them. In 2021 the Las Vegas housing market is on fire and since the beginning of the year, it has been a strong seller's market due to very low inventory and also historically low mortgage rates. The challenge we face in the industry right now is a severe lack of housing for home buyers, especially since the pandemic brought about a lot of people moving here from other states such as California and New York, where the taxes are much higher than ours. We need more housing to accommodate all of these newcomers also.

LAST YEAR WAS DEFINITELY A TOUGH YEAR FOR MOST PEOPLE. HOW IS 2021 TREATING YOU SO FAR? Last year was certainly a monumental event for all on every level with unpredictable and wavering concerns and obligations for our families, careers, and self. Our routines

became fractured, even nonexistent at times. After the initial directives and guidelines were put into place, along with common sense and decades of being prepared to deal with the unexpected, I navigated my way through being as safe as possible.

The benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, exercise, eating well and making sure to get 8 hours of sleep each night are certain priorities for my life and wellbeing. My puppy, J. J. has played an important part in keeping me active! Even after taking every possible precaution, COVID-19 got ahold of me in early December. Fortunately, I fully recovered without complications or residual effects.

Welcoming the New Year of 2021 with open arms was a happy moment for me, as it was a way to begin looking forward and hopefully, moving into old routines in the coming months. With the expanding vaccine program, Las Vegas will soon return to some normalcy. Many of us have not been able to see our family or friends. The time will come when we can give hugs again in person and celebrating in regaining a significant level of communication of meetings in person allows.

Senator Heidi Gansert found us a great home for the Organ Donor and Tissue Program at the University of Nevada. As a board member for Nevada Donor Network Foundation, I will continue to work to save the lives of others. Along with my colleagues we will soon be able to get out and raise funds to build another kidney center when normalcy comes back to Las Vegas, which should be soon with so many, who have been vaccinated.

DO EMOTIONS PARTAKE IN THE DECISION MAKING? I am very proud of my work with the Crystal Darkness campaign, as we managed to get many citizens off the streets and off of methamphetamine. My dear friend, Lynda Tache, was with me at the Governor’s Mansion when she decided to start the Grant a Gift for Autism Foundation and, of course, I was with her all the way. Because I lost my father to suicide at the age of 16 and gave the gift of life with his organs, I have been actively involved in helping individuals who are suicidal and making sure we don’t leave those organs when one passes. Organs and even tissues save lives. There are so many opportunities to fill a void, open a door or lend a helping hand. If you are able then you must make a way to give and help others. The blessings you will receive are worth the sacrifice!

WHEN CAN WE SAY THAT IT IS SAFE TO TRAVEL, ESPECIALLY USING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION? As a former state legislator, obligations and deadlines were naturally, a part of my every day, which translated well into my current position at the Nevada Transportation Authority.

Safe transportation for the traveling public is important to work. We maintained a limited on-site staff during the shutdown to take care of the needs of the carriers and operators, who needed assistance.

In three months, staff was on board either in the office or telecommuting and adjusting to the ‘Zoom’ way of communication, something we learned to navigate efficiently.

The NTA was able to stay on our normal schedules for the benefit of those that depended on passenger transportation.

While SSA has created many restaurant designs for many varieties of restaurants and venues, we like this one the best because of its clean modern style and it has an uncluttered energy vibe that does attract customers.

HOW WAS YOUR 2020? HOW DO YOU FEEL THAT WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH 2021?

2020 started out with a lot of uncertainty, but it was all uphill from there. The CRE industry came to a standstill for about a month when the lockdowns first started, and no one really knew where things were going since it was such an unprecedented situation here.

However, since things began to open up in Las Vegas, it has been busy nonstop with both pent-up demand from individuals who hit pause and increased demand from businesses and investors relocating here. From “Phase 1” openings in 2020 and continuing consistently today, it has been constant in our industry.

I definitely feel grateful this year. Grateful to be busy and working. Grateful to be able to make an income while making an impact, since I primarily help business owners and relatively smaller/private investors (I am really passionate about the American Dream as a first generation immigrant). Grateful to see our local economy growing, diversifying and being a part of that change!

1) Lake Las Vegas - I can’t believe how many locals I’ve come across that either didn’t know about this area or haven’t made it out there yet. The area is so beautiful, there are more restaurants there now (many with outdoor seating), and there are so many fun water activities available in the summer.

It is a great area to live, as well as an amazing staycation option.

2) Willow Beach / Emerald Cave - Not exactly in “Las Vegas” but it is my favorite location to kayak nearby, and my favorite weekend day trip out of the city as it is so close but feels like a world away.

It is absolutely beautiful, and the water is always cool and crisp so it is the perfect summer escape.

3) Mount Charleston - Only about 45 minutes from the strip, but again it feels like a world away with the huge trees and temperatures about 20 degrees cooler than the valley. My favorite hike is Cathedral Rock, which is closed during the winter months due to ice and snow. There are also fantastic winter activities up there.

BY SIDE. WHAT DIFFERENCE WOULD BE STRIKING IF ANY? HOW IS THE COMPETITION, CROWD AND TALENTS IN VEGAS IN YOUR OPINION? There seems like there is something in the water in Seattle. It could be the wet weather, but the singers there have such a rich tone and have a different take on songs. In Vegas, it seems like there are a lot of very good talented singers but the artistry of the Seattle / PCNW singers is off the charts. I notice with Vegas singers, there is more showmanship than the quality of voice and vocal technique. However, I have met several singers in Vegas who I consider to be some of the best vocalists I have ever heard. Vegas is a rougher city to try to get the local talent to compete. I don't know why that is but maybe it is because of other competitions that lack opportunities for them to perform.

HOW DOES KWCUSA ADJUST THROUGH THE PANDEMIC? Last year while watching our other KWC countries battle the pandemic before it hit the States, we started to make contingency plans. By the end of February 2020, I had already figured we would possibly have to shut down the local bar competitions and figure out a way to go with a virtual platform nationwide. But we were dedicated to preserving the feel of the live competition and finding the next world champion. We cut a lot of our production staff and the pandemic gave us the ability to rethink how we hold the qualifier rounds and competitions. In a bold move, we decided to move our training program, which was the way we used to open our past KWCUSA seasons, and place it within our National Finals to give our singers vocal, technique, artistry, performance, and A/V technical training.

Giving them the tools so the singers on Team USA could have the best odds while competing against the best singers from around the world. We were very successful in that aspect as we brought the gold back home to the USA with our World Champion, Garvaundo Hamilton!

LET’S TALK ABOUT MOVE OR MEN OF VEGAS ENTERTAINMENT. YOU RECENTLY BECAME A PART OF THIS GROUP. WHO ARE THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PRODUCTION? WHAT IS YOUR VISION ON THE PROJECT? The Project M.O.V.E. was part of the brainchild of Ron Cabildo of Definitive Talents. He wanted to showcase more of a modern Rat Pack feeling but with a modern flair. With how the pandemic hit the Las Vegas entertainment scene, the idea was to give part of our earnings back to the people in entertainment who were affected during the shutdown. From the sound guys, to the keyboardists, guitarists and even the ushers, we wanted to give back to the people who didn't get the unemployment and were without gigs. Every little bit helps. M.O.V.E. is a group that also constantly can evolve with other Vegas artists joining in to perform. I have had the honor of working with and performing with Ron, Dean Perry, Jeffrey Michael's, Dennis D'Satchmo Keating, and Kelly Lee Williams. It's a very fun show, with a lot of singing, dancing, and camaraderie. We have been staying in shape and perfecting our shows mostly by working the senior centers where they are very appreciative of our entertainment.

I always say that I can envision Vegas being a second Broadway. I have always envisioned producing showcase shows featuring "Tony Award" winning scenes from musicals and feature them here in Vegas to give people the thirst for live music theater. We in Vegas should always be housing at least two or three residency newer Broadway shows so people can find that Vegas is still an entertainment destination and make it easier for people to get tickets to come here than the sold-out shows in NYC.

Where improv comedy comes in, is that I am originally from Chicago. I worked many different jobs at Historic Second City and also had the privilege of being an understudy stage manager there and performing in shows at the Donny's Skybox on the 4th Floor. The improv community and comedy that came out of there was second to none. I think about my experiences there every day and got to witness how they put their shows together by some of the top comedic producers and talents in the world.

HOW WOULD YOU COMPARE THE START OF YOUR 2021 TO THE START OF YOUR 2020?

We launched our flagship gallery inside The Shops at Crystals only a few months before we rang in 2020.

Things were moving along great until mid - March when it seemed like the whole world shut down. We managed to survive through those uncertain months and emerged better in spite of it. 2021 represented a new beginning with optimism for the future as Vegas started to come alive with tourism, it seems like we are back to normal, all be it a "new normal”.

HOW WAS THE GALLERY AFFECTED BY THE PANDEMIC? WHAT CHANGES WERE IMPLEMENTED, IF ANY? The obvious impact was our beloved staff. Having to furlough our tightknit family of sales people was very difficult. We paired down to a precious few and waited out the storm, so to speak. William’s work continued to resonate with our existing collector base which meant we didn’t have to rely on walk traffic, that helped to carry us through.
