Coming to college can by scary, nerve wrecking, and exci7ng all at once. You are coming into a journey that will define the rest of your life. I remember my first month of classes- I was scared to meet new people, had no idea what to expect from professors, and was completely overwhelmed I do not want this for you! As a Vandy student, you have access to mul7ple resources for mental health, including a Life Coach to help you set goals for the semester and be one your biggest cheerleaders!

What is a life coach?

A Life Coach is exactly what it sounds like... a coach to help you navigate this thing called life! Unlike therapy, a life coach does not focus on your past, but instead helps you plan your future in whatever ways you deem appropriate. A life coach will not tell you what to do, but help you sort your thoughts, hold you accountable to the goals you set for yourself, and to be your biggest cheerleader when you reach your goals!

Life coaching does not replace talking with staff at the UCC, but it can help you get moving and works as a great supplement to counseling!

Whatever your reason, I am here for you. So take advantage of this service! If nothing else, schedule an appointment just to talk! Tell me how excited you are about coming to Vanderbilt

How it works:

1. As of now, I am accepting appointments from August 7-18 from 10am-4pm. Please book 24 hours in advance (do not schedule an appointment for the same day you book your appointment

2. Appointments are for 30 minutes

3. To schedule, please go to: https://calendly.com/momaveelifecoach/1-1-with-moma-vee

4. Once I receive your confirmation, within 24 hours, I will send you a worksheet to complete and return before your first appointment.

5. All sessions will be held over Zoom. Confidentiality is a must so I will hold these appointments from my home office where we won’t be interrupted.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out! Looking forward to helping you reach your goals!!!!!!

Every year, Vandy Vanity hosts a Ball in the Fall semester and a Fashion Show in the Spring semester. Members can get involved by attending these events as well as other social events and workshops throughout the year, or even by joining our Modeling and Fashion Design Teams or the Executive Board!

Make sure to check out our Instagram @thevandyvanity for interest forms and applications, and say hey at the Harambee March on August 19! We can’t wait to meet you!

“The House”

Initially referred to as “the Afro House,” in 1984, the center was named in honor of the first African American student admitted to Vanderbilt University in 1953, Bishop Joseph Johnson (B.D. ’54, Ph.D. ’58). For more than 40 years, “the house”, as it is more affectionately known, has served as the epicenter of the Black experience at Vanderbilt. Evolving to the growing needs of our students, alumni, faculty, and staff, the Black Cultural Center continues to offer innovative programming, resources, and opportunities for fellowship. Rich in history and culture, the BCC is a welcoming oasis for all who visit!
