Summer Programs at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Campers will be divided into four age groups for Youth Programs activities. Full- or half-day options are available where indicated.

Vacation Bible School

Week 1 – Grades K-5

$40

This one-week camp will teach the Word of God through the popular children’s series, The Chronicles of Narnia. Campers will enjoy Bible stories, religious songs, arts and crafts, and skits.

Around the World in 80 Days

Weeks 2-3 – Grades JK3-6

$550 full/$350 half Calling all travelers for a two-week journey! Immerse your children in a variety of cultures as they learn to speak basic Spanish, cook French cuisine, and decipher messages in Egyptian hieroglyphics. Campers will be able to travel the world without ever leaving St. Louis.

The Final Frontier Week 4 – Grades JK3-6

$275 full/$175 half In this one-week STEM camp, young scientists will learn about engineering and locomotion through LEGO robotics; design, build, and launch their own rocket; and take a cosmic trip to the Saint Louis Science Center’s McDonnell Planetarium.

From Broadway to LA

Week 5 – Grades JK3-6

$275 full/$175 half Artists, enjoy a week filled with music, theater, art, and photography! Campers will design and build a

model skyscraper, produce a play, and can even learn to play the drums. The week ends with a trip to City Museum, where campers will see recycling and art fused together in a spectacular jungle gym.

Under the Sea

Weeks 6-7 – Grades JK3-6

$550 full/$350 half Aquatic adventures commence as campers learn about the depths of the ocean and explore the wonders of the sea in this two-week camp. Campers will launch water balloons, fence like a pirate, and enjoy a day of maritime escapades at the St. Louis Zoo, going behind the scenes of the Sea Lion Sound and Stingray Cove. Campers in grades 3-6 will be invited to stay the night in Sea Lion Sound.

Once Upon A Time…

Weeks 8-9 – Grades JK3-6

$550 full/$350 half Campers will enter a magical world where the stories they love come to life. This two-week program’s activities, games, and projects are drawn from beloved books. Campers will take a trip to The Magic House, play Quidditch, and re-enact favorite tales.

Camp Acorn

Week 10 – Grades JK3-6

$275 full/$175 half This traditional one-week summer camp is filled with campfires, s’mores, and tug-of-war. Campers will enjoy a trip to Upper Limits, where they will climb to new heights in one of St. Louis’ leading indoor rock climbing facilities.

MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS

ACT/SAT Prep Workshop

Weeks 1-2 – Grades 11-12

Vive la France!

Week 4 – Grade 7-12

This two-week workshop conveniently takes place before the June ACT. It has been designed to help students become better test-takers by practicing with sample tests and honing their test-taking skills.

College Application Workshop

Week 2 – Grades 11-12

This one-week workshop will help students prepare for the college application process. From letters of recommendation and essays, to the application itself, this workshop will teach students the skills they need to confidently apply to college. (Note: Lunch is included for this workshop.)

Social Studies Summer Seminar

Weeks 3-4 (June 16-24) – Grade 9

The for-credit Social Studies Summer Seminar is a ten-day intensive introduction to high school social studies. The program includes a three-day, facultyled trip to Chicago, where students will explore the concept of globalization by studying the history and culture of the Windy City. (Note: This program is limited to incoming Villa Duchesne freshmen.)

Duchesne Culinaire

Week 3 – Grade 7-12

Campers will feel like they are in Paris as they learn French cooking, culture, history, and art. The week will conclude with a luncheon at Vin De Set and a trip to the Saint Louis Art Museum, where docents will lead a special tour with an emphasis on the museum’s French art.

Middle School STEM

This STEM week will prepare rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for the science and mathematics that they will study in the upcoming academic year. Students will be fully immersed in the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in an interactive setting.

YOUTH SPORTS CAMPS

Soccer and Basketball are open to boys and girls. All other Youth Sports programs are for girls only.

Campers will meet at the Dierbergs culinary school, where they will learn the skills necessary to create a variety of tasty dishes. (Note: This private, one-week program takes place at the Des Peres Dierbergs.)

Due to MSHSAA regulations, high school sports camps are limited to Villa Duchesne students.

An athletic trainer will host open training sessions throughout the summer. The day will start with training routines followed by open use of Villa Duchesne’s fitness center. This program is available to current students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Note: Programs marked with an asterisk (*) are offered Monday-Thursday. All other programs are Monday-Friday.

Grade levels are based on the grade the camper will enter in the fall.

Are programs limited to Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School students?

Most of our summer programs are open to any boys or girls entering the grade levels indicated, regardless of which school the students attend.

Where do the programs take place?

All programs take place on the Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School campus, unless otherwise noted. Many of our summer programs involve field trips to St. Louis-area attractions.

Who leads the programs?

The educators who lead our summer programs are knowledgeable in their fields of study and enthusiastic about providing a fun, educational summer experience. Staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR, and a registered nurse is on campus during programming.

Do participants need to bring sack lunches?

Breakfast is provided for all Youth Programs that begin at 7:30 am. Students participating in full-day programs will also enjoy lunch each day.

Is childcare available after the programs?

Supervised activities are available at no additional cost until 6 pm for students participating in full-day Youth Programs. Please select this option when registering.

What is the cancellation/refund policy?

Refunds, minus a 10 percent administrative fee, are available through May 1, 2015.
