EDITORIAL 1 From the middle of May, the Balkans have been suffering the biggest floods they had known for more than a century. In the two more touched countries, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, it caused the death of several dozens of people (62 according the last report), and the material damage is counted in billions of euro. I -and the whole team of Volunteers Center Skopje, I’m sure- give my full support to all the victims of the floods.

Од средината на Мај, Балканот се соочува со најголемите поплави што му се имаат случено во последното столетие. Во двете најзагрозени земји, Босна и Херцеговина и Србија, поплавите предизвикаа смрт на повеќе десетици луѓе (62 лица според последниот извештај), а предизвиканата материјална штета се брои во милијарди евра. Јас исто како и целиот тим на Волонтерски Центар Скопје, со сигурност даваме поддршка до сите лица кои се на било кој начин жртви на овие поплави.

In this disaster, only one positive point:

Во несреќата која се случи, има и неколку позитивни аспекти: видливата голема солидарност помеѓу нациите и соседните држави. На пример, Хрватска ги испрати своите тимови за спасување во Србија, а исто така ги отвори и своите автопатишта за сите возила кои носат хуманитарна помош до Црвениот Крст. Во неколку градови, вклучувајќи го и Скопје, илјадници луѓе донираа храна и други видови на донации во локалниот Црвен Крст. А на самото место на поплавите, илјадници волонтери спасуваа луѓе, без поставување на прашањето на која националност или религија припаѓаат тие. Дали е ова почетна точка на подобрени меѓународни односи? Ќе видиме...

the great surge of solidarity between populations. For example Croatia sent rescue services in Serbia and opened its highways to all the cars transporting humanitarian aid.

In lots of cities like in Skopje, thousands of people give food or donations to the Red Cross.

And on the field, the rescue volunteers save people without asking what is their ethnic group or their religion. Is it the beginning point of better international relationships?

We’ll see…

“ SAY NO TO HOMOPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA”

Interview with Antonio Mihajlov, president of Subversive Front (http://www.s-front.org/) and member of the Coordination Body of the National network against homophobia and transphobia (http://www.lgbtimreza.org/).

Could you please shortly brief us on the situation of LGBT in Macedonia as our readers, who come from different parts of the world, to be able to understand especially the challenges that LGBT people are facing in Macedonia?

The LGBTI movement in the Republic of Macedonia has been visible since the early 2000s, by opening several CSOs working directly or indirectly with the rights of the LGBTI people. Since autumn 2012, the visibility of the LGBTI community in the country has been increased and thus, the visible violence against it has also grown. Five acts of hate crime occurred against the newly opened LGBTI Support Centre in 2012 and 2013, among which one when there were 40 people present inside the Centre. LGBTI activists were also a target of violence throughout the same period in different parts of the country. In addition, there was upsurge of homophobic and transphobic speech in the public realm, especially in media, including social media, as well as in state institutions such as the Parliament. Homophobic and transphobic content is found in high-school and university books, and bullying against LGBTI youth in schools is not recognised and addressed. Acts of domestic violence and workplace discrimination against LGBT people are very common, but not reported. Macedonian antidiscrimination legislation does not explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) as discrimination grounds, and the Criminal Code also does not recognise acts of hate crime on the basis of SOGI. In 2013, the study programme

in gender studies at the only state university that conducted it was put on hold, and the opening of new, family studies programme instead, was announced. LGBTI persons are usually scapegoated for burning societal issues and used to discredit the political opponent which additionally fuels the stigmatisation and discrimination against this vulnerable group.

You are part of the campaign “Say NO to homophobia and transphobia” that was recently launched. Can you tell us what the main aim of the campaign is?

The public and media campaign “Say NO to homophobia and transphobia” is part of the project implemented by the Association for critical approach to gender and sexuality “Subversive Front” Skopje, in partnership with the Coalition “Sexual and health rights of marginalized communities”, and supported by the Open Society Foundation Macedonia. Its main goal is to increase the public awareness in the fight against homophobia and heterosexism inherent to Macedonian society, by encouraging civic LGBTI activism and participation

in the fight against homophobia and transphobia, by increasing solidarity and support of the LGBT people to continue in the combat for their rights, and by mobilizing media, civic society and the citizens of Macedonia in their participation in the wider campaign for equally human rights.

In the campaign several ‘popular’ Macedonian faces are included.

What were their reactions when you asked them to be part of the campaign?

Yes, there are twelve public personalities (3 actresses, 3 journalists, 3 singers and 3 social media celebrities) participating in the campaign.

Their initial response was quite positive and furthermore, after the campaign’s start, there were other Macedonian celebrities who wished to join the campaign, as well. On behalf of the Na-

tional network against homophobia and transphobia, I must say we are quite happy of this response, which encourages us even more in our advocacy work and work with the media.

How has the public reacted on the campaign?

The reaction from the general public is mixed, with homophobic and transphobic remarks prevailing at social media networks. However, we see that as an incentive to keep on with our efforts as the continuous presence of anti-homophobic and anti-transphobic rhetoric in the public discourse is essential in the combat for the human rights of the LGBT people, especially in raising the awareness of the general public on the issues this marginalized and vulnerable community experiences on a daily basis.

Ju lutem na tregoni më gjerësisht për situatën e LGBT në Maqedoni, pasi që shumica e lexuesve tanë vijnë nga shtete të ndryshme dhe që të kuptojne më mirë sfidat që ballafaqohet LGBT në Maqedoni?

Lëvizja LGBT në Republikën e Maqedonisë ka qenë në dukje herët në vitin 2000, duke i hapur disa OJQ me punë direkte apo indirekte me të drejtat e njerëzve LGBT. Që në vjeshtë të 2012-ës, dukshmëria e komunitetit LGBT është rritur, poashtu edhe dhuna kunder tyre është rritur. Pesë rastë të urrejtjes kane ndodhur kundër qendrës përkrahëse për LGBT në 2012-tën dhe 2013-tën, ndër të tjera në njërin rast ishin 40 persona mbrenda në qendëer.

Aktivistët LGBT poashtu ishin në në objektiv të dhunës gjatë së njëjtës periudhë në vende të ndryshme të shtetit. Pos kësaj kishte edhe rritje të shpejtë të fjalimeve homofobike dhe transfobike në publik, veqanërisht në media, duke përfshirë edhe mediat sociale, poashtu në institucionet shtetërore sic është parlamenti. Përmbajtjta homofobike dhe transfobike është presente edhe në literaturë të shkollave të mesme dhe universiteteve, dhe ngacmimi ndaj LGBT rinisë në shkolla nuk është e njohur dhe e adresuar. Aktet e dhunës shtëpiake dhe diskriminimet në punë ndaj LGBT njerëzve janë shumë të rregullta, por nuk janë të raportuara. Legjislacioni antidiskriminues në Maqedoni nuk e përfshinë posaqërisht orientimin sexual dhe identitetin gjinor (SOGI) në bazat diskriminuese, dhe kodi kriminal nuk i njeh aktet e urrejtjes në bazim të SOGI-it. Në 2013-ën, programi studiues në studime gjinore në të vetmin universitet shtetëror është lënë në pritje, ndërsa hapje të reja dhe programe për studime familjare janë paralajmruar. Personat LGBT janë qengja kurban për qështje shoqërore dhe të përdoren për diskreditimin e kundërshtarve politik e cila vetëm se e rrit stigmatizimin dhe diskriminimin ndaj këtij grupi shumë vulnerabël.

Ju jeni pjesë e fushatës “Thuaj JO homofobisw dhe transfobisw” e cila është nisur rishtazi, a mund që të na tregoni se cili është qëllimi kryesor i kampanjës?

Fushata mediale dhe publike “Thuaj JO homofobisë dhe transfobisë” është pjesë e projektit implementuar nga shoqata për qasje kritike ndaj gjinisë dhe seksualitetit “Fronti Subversiv” me seli ne Shkup, në bashkëpunim me koalicionin “Të drejtat seksuale dhe shëndetësore të bashkësive të margjinalizuara”, dhe e përkrahur nga Fondacioni Shoqëria e Hapur Maqedonia. Qëllimi kryesor është që të rritet ndërgjegjja publike për të luftuar kundër homofobisë dhe transfobisë dhe duke rritur solidarizimin dhe përkrahjen për njerëzit LGBT, dhe për të vazhduar luftën për të drejtat e tyre, dhe duke mobilizuar mediat, shoqëritë civile, qytetarët e Maqedonisë për pjesëmarrjen e tyre që të zgjerohet kampanja për të drejta të barabarta njerëzore.

Në fushatë janë të përfshirë disa ftyra publike. Si ishte reagimi i tyre kur kërkuat nga ta për të qenë pjesë e fushatës?

Po janë dymbëdhjetë personalitete publike (3 aktore, 3 gazetarë, 3 këngtarë dhe 3 presentuaes te famshëm të mediave sociale) që marrin pjesë në kampanjë. Përgjegjja e tyre fillestare ishte mjaft positive dhe për më tepër pasi që filloi kampanja, kishte edhe njerëz tjerë të famshëm të maqedonisë që dëshironin që ti bashkangjiten kampanjës. Në emër të rrjetit nacional kundër homofobisë dhe transfobise, më duhet që të them se jemi mjaft të lumtur për këtë përgjegje, e cila na inkurajon më shumë në punën tonë mbrojtëse dhe punën me media.

Si është duke reaguar publiku ndaj fushatës?

Reagimi publik në përgjithsi është i përzier, me vërejtje homofobike dhe transfobike në rrjetet e mediave sociale, megjithatë, ne e shohim si nxitje për të vazhduar me përpjekjet tona pasi që si prania e vazhdueshme e retorikës anti-homofobike dhe anti-transphobic në diskursin publik është thelbësore në luftën për të drejtat e njeriut të personave LGBT, sidomos në rritjen e ndërgjegjësimit të publikut të gjerë për çështjet të margjinalizuara dhe përvojave të rrezikuara të komunitetit në bazë të përditshme.

he past weekend, thanks to Wizz Air Skopje Marathon, I had an exclusive opportunity to be DIRECT host of the marathon World Record holder - the Kenyan, Wilson Kipsang.

Of course I felt privileged and delighted.

I mean, how many people in the world had the opportunity to sit at the same table with a world-class champion and eat together? More than once? How many had the opportunity to hear advice from the recorder? To try and enter in the mind of such a greatness? Even to be privileged to see some photos of his wonderful family?

I spent two days and used it up to the maximum. I think I asked him 1001 questions and I wonder how doesn’t he got bothered of it so to tell us to back off. But instead, he tirelessly and with a big smile answered our every question, as he wanted all of his experience to transmit in one breath. And with that same big smile and inexhaustible patience stood for two days in front of the cameras, taking pics with each one who wanted to take a picture with him. And a lot of them wanted. I mean seriously, really a lot! Just standing next to him and watching it felt exhausting.

We talked and joked about many things.

We started with serious topics, like, what is his opinion for marathon under two hours, as we agreed in that - for now it’s unreal. But anyway, he doesn’t give up the thought of a new record.

He still consults with coach Canova and as sparring partners he has his competitors Dennis Kimetto and Geoffrey Mutai. When I asked him whether on the trainings feels hostile rivalry, he responded like a true athlete: «It is only on race you can compete against and there is no friendship. Beyond race, there is no need for hostility» Also, his manager Arien confirm us that these three legends agree excellently off the track. He is with him for about 5 years and enjoys immense trust in Wilson. A proof of this is the fact that the youngest son of Wilson brings to the name of Arien. Imagine what an honor it is.

Wilson is an intelligent and realistic young man who thinks maturely and soberly, and knows that he cannot live all life as an athlete.

That’s why he invest in his own business and education.

SANG AT WIZZ MARATHON

«I own hotel resort on Iten - «Keellu resort - Iten», intended primarily for athletes, kind of like training camp. For example, right now, there’s the Chinese team who train with coach Renato Canova.»

The name of the hotel «Keellu», he told us that means «luck» and is originating from one of the 42 Kenyan tribes - Kalejin.

«I love to dance, and sometimes during the weekends, number of athletes comes to my hotel and we just have some dancing party.

Everybody have fun and dance. You can come to» – he referred to me.

I was interested in his education. As younger boy, he didn’t really had good conditions to form quality education, but hi’s not giving up the idea. He told us that right now, he study online in one Kenyan University, specifically - the criminology department. Given that I have graduated from the Police Academy, we found one more common topic of conversation. Finally, we joked about giving him мѕ essays so he can use it on, although written in Macedonian.

«I’m not taking higher education so I can get the diploma and show off. It’s important for me to activate the brain. It is very important to be mentally active.» That was another statement that we completely agreed on with him.

Someone from the other fans asked him how can be still motivated to compete, when it seems that with the World Record he already reached the very top, and also about what is he thinking about while running?

“When you run you only think about the race, the split times, the focus needs to be on that moment only. “ «This is a marathon, this is the athletics» - he has returned with a big smile. «There is always place for a new goal to conquer, there’s always room for more progress. A gold from the Olympics and World Championship is the dream of every athlete and sportsman. These are my next goals.»

Finally, he told us that he would really like to come next year and participate in Skopje Marathon, at least in half marathon. We certainly would be more than happy if we have again that opportunity to be hostess of such a wonderful character.

СВЕТСКИОТ РЕКОРДЕ НА ВИЗ ЕР СКО

зминатиот викенд, благодарение на Wizz Air Skopje Marathon, имав ексклузивна прилика да биде ДИРЕКТЕН домаќин на актуелниот светски рекордер во маратон - Кениецот Вилсон Кипсанг. Нормално дека се чувствував привилегирано и пресреќно. Мислам, колку луѓе во Светот имале прилика да седат на иста маса со шампион од светска класа и да јадат заедно? И тоа повеќе од еднаш? Колку имале прилика да слушнат совет од рекордерот? Да пробаат да влезат во главата на ваква ѕверка? Да видат домашни слики со неговото прекрасно семејство? Поминавме два дена и ги искористивме до максимум. Мислам дека го прашав 1001 прашање и се прашувам како не му здосадив па да ми рече тргни ми се веќе, не ме замарај...Но тој, неуморно и со широка насмевка одговараше на секое мое прашање, како и тој да сакаше целото свое искуство да го пренесе во еден здив. И со истата таа широка насмевка и неисцрпна трпеливост два дена стоеше пред фото камерите, со секој еден кој сакаше да се слика со него. А сакаа многу. Навистина многу! Само што стоевме до него и го гледавме ни беше мачно. Разговаравме и се шегувавме за многу работи. Започнавме со сериозни теми, прво за тоа какво е неговото мислење за маратон под 2 часа, во што се согласивме во ставовите дека тоа, сега за сега е лудост. Но не се откажува од помислата за нов рекорд. Сеуште се консултира со тренерот Канова, а како спаринг партнер го има неговите конкуренти Денис Кимето и Џефри Мутаи. Кога го прашав дали на тренинзи се чувствува непријателско ривалство, тој одговори како вистинска атлета: “Единствено на трка може да се одмерат силите и тука нема пријателство. Надвор од трка нема потреба за непријателски однос.“ Дека тие се согласуваат одлично надвор од патеката, ни потврди и неговиот менаџер Аријен. Тој е со него околу 5 години и ужива огромна доверба кај Вилсон. А за ова е доказ

Вилсон е интелигентен и реален млад човек кој размислува зрело и трезвено и знае дека нема да може цел живот да живее како атлетичар. Затоа и вложува во сопствен бизнис, но и образование. “Имам свој хотел-ресорт на Итен - “Keellu resort – Iten“, пред се наменет за атлетичарите, нешто како тренинг камп. Сега моментално, таму е цел Кинески тим кој тренира со Ренато Канова.“ За името на неговиот хотел “Keellu” ни рече дека значи “среќа“ и е збор со потекло од едно 42-те Кенијски племиња – Каленџин. “Сакам да танцувам, па понекогаш, за викенд, во мојот хотел доаѓаат голем број на атлетичари и правиме голема забава. Сите танцуваме и се забавуваме. Мора да дојдеш и ти“ – ми се обрати на мене. Ме интересираше неговото образование. Како помлад, немал добри услови да се образува квалитетно, но затоа сега не се откажува од таа идеја. Ни кажа дека учи на еден Кeнијски универзитет on-line и тоа на оддел криминалистика. Со оглед на тоа што и јас

имам дипломирано на Полициска академија, си најдовме плус уште една заедничка тема за разговор. На крај, на шега се договориме да му ги дадам моите семинарски и есеи да ги искористи, иако се на Македонски  “Факултетот и високото образование не ги учам за дипломата. Важно ми е да го активирам мозокот. Многу е важно да се биде ментално активен.“ Беше уште една изјава со која во потполност се согласивме со него. Некој од фановите од страна праша, како има уште мотивација да натпреварува, кога се чини дека со Светскиот рекорд го достигнал врвот. “Ова е маратон, ова е атлетика“ – му врати тој со широка насмевка. “Секогаш имаш нова цел да освојуваш, секогаш има простор за повеќе, за напредок. Злато од Светско, а особено Олимпијда е сон на секој атлетичар и спортист. Тоа се мои следни цели.“ На крајот, ни рече дека навистина би сакал да дојде следната година и да учествува на Скопски маратон, барем на полумаратон. Ние секако би биле пресреќни доколку повторна ја имаме таа прилика да му “домаќинуваме“ на ваков прекрасен лик.

YOUTH INFO CLUBS IN MACEDONIA

O

n 7th of May in Skopje was open the first of 4 youth INFO Clubs in Macedonia.

A week later, on 14th of May was open the second one – in Tetovo. The other 2 will be located in Bitola and Shtip. After the promotion was made, the protocol was over and all “important” people were gone, a group of young people stayed at the Faculty of Economics in Skopje in order to ask some questions. “Finally, one fresh graduated student said, I can get information for job positions suitable for me and get connect with companies”. But what exactly one young person can be informed about from these INFO CLUBS? We visited the one in Skopje and talked to the assistants working there - Ms. Elena Fidanovska and Ms. Natasha Jordanova, in order to find out what kind of useful information can discover the young people and how will be helpful for them this project.

...Don’t expect too much when you start searching for job, as this is the biggest problem why so many young people are disappointed in searching their dream job...

What is the purpose of the Info Club?

The Info Club has been created as an answer to the needs of the young people in Macedonia, as many of them are facing with unemployment, in some branches is missing trained cadre, somewhere is more than full, so this is a pilot project in order to try to balance the thing as much as possible, move the things from the dead point and inform all that there is a light in the dark tunnel, so let’s help each other and reach it together.

How will be reached this goal?

At the moment the Info Club is quite new and just opened, until the end of June the plan is to inform about the measures which are going to be implemented by the government for employment, self-employment and internship for young people, as well to advice the young people how can get involved in it and benefit from this program. In later stage, starting from September (in September the info clubs will be open again after the summer break in July and August) the info club will connect companies with the young people, will provide possibilities for meetings between the HR managers and the students, afterwards they can get information about various training courses and other opportunities for young people.

What questions are asking the young people so far?

Since the opening most of them were coming because of curiosity, asking why is located exactly at the Faculty of Economics, why not other Faculty; where can they find realistic open advertisement; how they can find a job. Many of them when they come here are expecting to show them data base with open job positions so they can only choose and apply for desired one. Everyone can find current open job positions at the web page WWW.PRV.MK , even though is not suitable for students yet, is still upgrading. And on the web page WWW.SAMOVRABOTUVANJE.MK can be found info about the measures from the government.

What will you recommend to our readers?

Don’t expect too much when you start searching for job, as this is the biggest problem why so many young people are disappointed in searching their dream job. In order to find your dream job make a research first, do an internship, afterwards apply for job. As the companies do not offer much to unknown potential employees. By unknown is meant people whom they see for first time when they apply, don’t allow your CV or your interview to be your first contact with your desired company. Get to know them before you apply for job position, not “googling” them, but meet them personally. Every employer dreams about brave, hard working and responsible staff.

The only way to show your qualities is by doing internship or volunteering in the company for few months, sometimes can take 6-7 or more months. It is the right investment for everyone’s career.

Unfortunately many people see it like a waste of money. Everyone willing to get more info we invite to visit us every working day from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Faculty of Economics at the Ss Cyril and Methodius University, on the upper floor.

This project is realization of UNDP in collaboration with the Coalition of Youth Associations SEGA and MladiInfo and will last until 28 of February 2015.

а 7 мај во Скопје беше отворен првиот од 4те ИНФО клубови во Македонија. Една недела подоцна, на 14 мај беше отворен вториот - во Тетово. Другите два ќе бидат стационирани на Универзитетите во Битола и Штип. Откако се реализираше промоцијата , протоколот заврши и сите “важни” луѓе си заминаа, група млади луѓе остана на Економскиот факултет во Скопје , со цел да постават неколку прашања. “Конечно, - еден штотуку дипломиран студент рече, можат да се добијам информации за работни места погодни за мене и да се поврзам со компании” . Но, за што точно еден млад човек ќе може да се информира преку овие ИНФО клубови? Која е целта на Инфо клубот? Инфо клубот е создаден како одговор на потребите на младите во Македонија , многу од нив се соочуваат со невработеност, во некои гранки недостасуваат обучени кадри, а некаде пак има повеќе од доволно, така што ова е пилот проект со обид да се избалансираат работите колку што е можно, да се придвижат нештата од мртва точка и да ги информира сите дека постои светлина во темниот тунел , па ајде си помогнеме едни на други

Како ќе се постигне оваа цел? Во моментот Инфо клубот е сосема нов и штотуку отворен. До крајот на јуни планот е да информира за мерките кои ќе бидат имплементирани од страна на Владата за вработување, самовработување и стажирање за млади, ние ќе ги советуваме младите како да се вклучат и да имаат корист од оваа програма. Во подоцнежната фаза, почнувајќи од септември (во септември инфо клубовите ќе бидат повторно отворени по летната пауза во јули и август) инфо клубот ќе ги поврзе компаниите и младите и образовните институции, ќе обезбеди можност за средби меѓу HR менаџери и студенти, потоа тие ќе можат да добијат информации за разни курсеви, обуки и други можности.

Значи вие служите како информатор и конектор за младите за бизнис секторот, какви се информации бараат до сега? Од отворањето повеќето од нив доаѓаат поради љубопитност, прашуваат зошто се наоѓа токму на Економскиот факултет , зошто да не други факултет ; прашуваат каде можат да најдат вистински отворени огласи за работа; како можат да најдат работа... Многу од нив кога доаѓаат очекуваат да им покажеме база на податоци со отворен работни места , па тие само да изберат и да почнат со работа. Секој може да најде тековни отворени работни места на веб страницата WWW.PRV.MK , иако во моментов не е погодна за студенти , сепак, се уште доизработува. А на веб страницата WWW. SAMOVRABOTUVANJE.MK можат да се најдат информации за мерките од Владата.

Што ќе им препорачате или ги посоветувате нашите читатели ? Да не очекуваат премногу кога ќе почнат да бараат работа, бидејќи тоа е најголемиот проблем зошто толку многу млади луѓе се разочарани во потрага по нивната работа од соништата. Со цел да ја најдете вашата идеална работа пред се направете истражување, потоа стажирајте или волонтирајте, а потоа аплицирајте за работа. Компаниите не нудат многу за непознати потенцијални вработени. Под непознати се мисли на луѓе кои ги гледаат за прв пат при аплицирање, не дозволувајте вашето CV или вашето интервју да биде вашиот прв контакт со вашата посакувана компанија. Запознајте се со нив пред да аплицирате за работно место, но не да ги запознавате преку Гугл, туку лично. Секој работодавач сонува за храбари, вредни и одговорни вработени . Единствениот начин да ги покажете своите квалитети е преку стажирање или волонтирање во компанијата на неколку месеци, понекогаш може да потрае 6-7 или повеќе месеци. Тоа е вистинската инвестиција за кариера. За жал многу луѓе го гледаат како залудно губење на време и пари. WORK AND TRAV MORE WORK OR

In June, a bunch of students take the big step and embark on a life-c agencies that offer this opportunity to Macedonian students through international activity, many seem to leave out one of the two

ension spiked with excitement and anxiety. Students arranging documents, fathers fighting over the biggest but lightest suitcases, mothers buying stocks of socks…it’s no war, it’s just the first wave of Work and Travel participants taking off for the USA. As a program, it aims to provide its participants an insight into American culture, an international working experience and a way to travel, while allowing Americans to also get an idea of what other cultures have to offer. So it’s all about the cultural exchange…or maybe not so much.

What it takes to apply

First of all, you need to be between 18 and 26 years old, be enrolled into university, have a good level of English, a pretty high grade average, no repeated years and be strongly motivated, in order to apply. You also need to have a budget of around 1800 euro. The total amount depends mostly on the choice of agency, plane tickets, getting the visa at first attempt and whe-

ther you’ll immediately begin to take your wages after your arrival. The application itself, meaning the cost of the agency and the sponsor who finds the jobs, costs about 700 euro. There are job fairs here in Macedonia, but Skype interviews are also very popular. Then, there is the visa process which costs 120 euro, plane tickets (around 700 euro) and pocket money. Let’s be honest, this is considered expensive in Macedonia. Not everyone can afford it and it’s questionable if even the existent student loans for this purpose are rentable afterwards.

Maybe we’re not a lazy nation after all

Surprisingly, during their stay in the USA, our students are prepared to work not only one, but two, three or even four jobs!

Aleksandra Bozhinovska, owner of an agency offering Work and Travel explains: “99% of the students applying for this program are doing it for the money.

changing journey to the USA, the land of possibilities. There are many h the Work and Travel program and while some choose to enjoy this o parts in its name: they follow a “Work and Work” program.

then straight back home and see nothing else. Still, there are some, the remaining 1%, that use the jobs only to travel through the USA and return home with wonderful recollections of what they’ve seen and done”.

Dejan Lutovski, member of “LENKA”, a movement for social justice, is aware that the program is a huge investment from the start and that is why students need to work a few jobs to make it profitable, which basically means very little or no free time. “Wanting the investment to pay off, but also come home with some savings, students are obliged to work more and not only take it as a trip,” he confirms. “Cultural exchange is only an ideological mask and while our students may misuse the program’s real purpose, American employers also take advantage of the cheap work force and sometimes underpay foreign workers. Nevertheless, the paycheck in America is still higher than almost any summer income a student could have in Macedonia, so it’s a way to escape the bad economic situation here”, deplores Dejan Lutovski.

Too many students, too little visas

“There are 3300 applications per year from Macedonia and Kosovo combined, as the Embassy in Skopje is for both countries. Last year, 2300 visas were granted, meaning 2300 students from the region spent 3 to 4 months in the USA. Although the popularity of the program is unquestionable, it seems like the number of applicants is declining these past 2 years and it is mostly due to the declining number of visas granted by the American Embassy”, explains Alexandra Bozhinovska.

Getting an interview is easy - passing it on the other hand, not quite. And not so cheap either - you would need to pay the already mentioned 120 euro for the 5-10 minutes visa interview, no matter the outcome, no reimbursements afterwards. Should you be turned down and wish to have another go, you pay the same amount again!

“Expectations don’t always match the real picture” Things don’t get much easier after arriving in the USA. Usually, food and lodging are provided by the employer, but sometimes candidates may need to manage it all on their own – apartment, food, transport to work. Macedonians mostly work in tourism (bartenders, waiters/waitresses, kitchen help, maids, room service, cashiers etc.), according to their previous experiences and the level of English, but there are also some on-spot trainings, which can be pretty demanding.

“The main issue is that student’s expectations don’t always match the real picture”, states Alexandra Bozhinovska. “Students are used to getting more by working less. Sometimes, the employers are at fault, simply because of failing to understand that Macedonian mentality is different than the American and that they cannot have same expectations from all workers”.

However you put it, in the end everything depends on the individual interpretation. Whether the glass is half empty or half full, whether what works for you is work or whether you’ll consider travel as travel even when reading a book, is completely up to you, no grudges held. So, all aboard, may the Work and Travel season begin!

My first impression 3 years ago wasn’t what I had imagined there weren’t any skyscrapers and I saw no Statue of Liberty.

Instead, I was sent to a National Park, in the mountains. Still it has been an amazing and positive experience, very well organized, with great lodging and food conditions and fair working relations. I believe the primary goal for all students is money, but cultural exchange and international experiences are in no way forgotten. Our sponsor asks us to have at least 2 international and cultural events in a month: sports, international dinners with different traditional meals, cinema etc., things we all greatly enjoy. It has really been a very enriching experience on a personal level!”

Има многу агенции кои им ја нудат оваа можност на македонските студенти преку програмата Work and travel („Работи и патувај“), но додека некои решаваат да уживаат во оваа интернационална активност, некои од нив се чини изоставаат еден дел од името на програмата – ја следат програмата „работи и работи“.

апнатост, зачинета со возбуда и вознемиреност. Студенти средуваат документи, татковци се караат за најголемите аинајлесни куфери, мајки купуваат залихи од чорапи...не, не избила војна, тоа е само првиот бран учесници во програмата Work and travel кои заминуваат за САД. Оваа програма, има за цел да им обезбеди на учесниците увид во американската култура, интернационално работно искуство и можност за патување, истовремено овозможувајќи им на Американците да видат што имаат да понудат другите култури. Значи, сè се врти околу културната размена...или пак не баш.

Што треба за да се аплицира

Пред сè, треба да сте на возраст помеѓу 18 и 26 години, запишани на факултет, со добро познавање на англиски јазик, прилично висок просек, без повторувани години, неосудувани и доволно мотивирани за да аплицирате. Исто така, потребен ви е буџет од околу 1800 евра. Целосниот износ најмногу зависи од изборот на агенција, авионските билети, добивањето виза на при првиот обид и дали плата ќе почнете да земате веднаш по пристигнувањето. Самата апликација, што значи агенцијата, како и спонзорот кој ви ја наоѓа работата, чини околу 700 евра. Во Македонија, се одржуваат саеми за поврзување на кандидатите со работно место, но популарни се и интервјуата преку скајп. Потоа, следуваат процесот за виза којшто чини 120 евра, авионските билети (околу 700 евра) и џепарлакот. Да бидеме искрени, во Македонија ова

се смета за скапо. Не можат да си го дозволат сите, а сомнителна е и исплатливоста на подигање на студенстки кредит за оваа намена.

Можеби сепак не сме мрзлива нација

Изненадувачки, за време на нивниот престој во САД, нашите студенти се спремни да работат не една, туку две, три па дури и четири работи истовремено! Александра Божиновска, сопственик на агенција која ја нуди програмата ни објаснува: „ 99% од студентите кои аплицираат, тоа го прават за парите. Многу студенти одат од авионот, директно на работа па веднаш дома и не гледаат ништо друго. Сепак има некои, преостанатиот 1%, кои ја користат работата за да патуваат низ САД и се враќаат дома со прекрасни сеќавања од она што го виделе или направиле“. Дејан Лутовски, член на „Ленка“ - движење за социјална правда, е свесен дека се работи за голема инвестиција од самиот почеток и за да биде исплатливо, студентите мораат да работат повеќе, што всушност значи имаат малку, или воопшто немаат слободно време. „ Сакајќи да им се исплати инвестицијата, а воедно и да се вратат дома со заштеда, студентите се приморани напорно да работат, а не на ова да гледаат само како на прошетка“ – вели тој. „Културната размена е само идеолошка маска и

„Секоја година, има по 3300 апликации од Македонија и Косово заедно, бидејќи амбасадата во Скопје е за двете држави. Минатата година беа доделени 2300 визи, што значи дека 2300 студенти од регионот поминаа 3 до 4 месеци во САД. Иако популарноста на програмата е несомена, бројот на апликанти се намалува во последните 2 години а тоа најмногу се должи на намалениот број визи кои ги доделува амбасадата“, објаснува Александра Божиновска. Да се отиде на интервју за виза е лесно - да се добие визата од друга страна, не толку. А не е ни евтино – веќе спомнатите 120 евра за интервјуто од 5-10 минути ги плаќате без разлика на исходот, без можност за нивно враќање. А ако ве одбијат

и сакате да се обидете пак, ја плаќате истата сума одново!

„Очекувањата не соодветствуваат на реалната слика“

Нештата не се полесни по пристигнувањето во САД. Обично, храната и сместувањето се обезбедени од страна на работодавачот, но понекогаш кандидатите мораат сами да се организираат за стан, храна и превоз до работа. Македонските студенти најчесто работат во туризам и угостителство (на пр. шанкер(к) и, келнер(к)и, помош во кујната, собар(к)и, касиер(к)и итн.), во согласност со нивното претходно искуство и нивото на познавање на англиски јазик, но има и обуки на работното место, кои знаат да бидат доста напорни. „Главниот проблем е што очекувањата на студентите не секогаш соодветствуват на реалната слика“, изјавува Божиновска. „Студентите се навикнати помалку да работаат, а повеќе да добиваат. Понекогаш, вина сносат и работодавачите, од проста причина што не сфаќаат дека македонскиот менталитет се разликува од американскиот и дека не можат да имаат исти очекувања од сите работници.“ Како и да се каже, на крајот сè зависи од индивидуалната интерпретација. Дали чашата е полупразна или полуполна, дали она што ви одговара е работа или за патување го сметате дури и она при читање книга, е целосно ваша работа, нема замерување. Па, сите на пат, сезоната на Work and travel може да започне!

Si program qëlimin e ka që pjesëmarrësve të ju ofrojë një pasqyrë për kulturën Amerikane, një experiencë internacionale të punës, dhe një rrugë udhëtim, duke lejuar Amerikanët poashtu që të kanë njohuri rreth kulturave tjera se cka ofrojnë. Pra është krejt për shkëmbim të kulturave…apo ndoshta jo edhe aq.

Cka duhet për të aplikuar

Së pari duhet që të jeni ndërmjet 18 dhe 26 vjet , i/e regjistruar në fakultet, të keni njohuri të mirë të gjuhës angleze, mesatare të lartë të notave, të mos keni

vite të përsëritura dhe të jnei I/e motivuar fuqishëm, për të aplikuar. Poashtu ju nevoitet që keni rreth 180 euro bugjet. Shuma totale varet prej agjensioneve të ndryshme, biletat e aeroplanit, për të marrë vizen në herën e parë, apo a do të merrni pagën tuaj menjëher pas mbërritjes. Vet aplikacioni, duke kuptuar shpenzimet e agjensionit dhe sponzorit I cili ju punëson, kushton 700 euro. Në maqedoni ka panaire të punësimit mirëpo intervistat përmes Skype janë shumë të popullarizuara. Pastaj është procesi I vizave I cili kushton 120 euro, biletat e aeroplanit rreth 700 euro dhe të hollat vetanake.

Të jemi të sinqertë, kjo shumë konsiderohet e shtrenjtë në Maqedoni. Jo gjithkush mund që të përballojë këtë shumë të hollave, dhe është pikëpyetje pë kreditë studentore për këtë qëllim janë të kthyeshme pastaj.

Pas të gjithave ndoshta nuk jemi komb përtac Befasisht, gjatë qëndrimit të tyre në SHBA, studentët tanë janë të përgatitur që të punojnë jo vetëm një, por dy, tre apo edhe katër vende pune !

Përshtypja e parë imja para 3 viteve nuk ishte ajo që imagjinoja – nuk kishte rrokaqiej dhe nuk kam parë statujën e lirisë. Në vend të kësaj jam dërguar në Parkun Nacional, në male. Akoma ishte një përvojë e mrekullueshme dhe një experiencë pozitive, shumë mirë e organizuar, më banim të mrekullueshëm, ushqim të mirë dhe marëdhënie pune të drejta. Besoj që qëllimi I parë për studentët janë të hollat, por shkëmbimi I kulturave dhe experience internacionale nuk janë që harrohen. Sponzori ynë kërkon nga në që të kemi së paku 2 evente internacionale dhe kulturore në muaj: sport, darak internacionale me ushqime tradicionale të ndryshme, kinema etj., gjëra që ne I gëzohemi në masë të madhe. Ka qenë me të vërtetë një experience e pasur në nivelin personal”.

“Duke dëshiruar që investimi të shpaguhet, por edhe të kthehet në shtëpi me pak kursim, studentët janë të obliguar që të punojnë më shumë dhe mos ta marrin si vetëm një udhëtim”, konfirmon ai. “Shkëmbimi kulturor është vetëm një maskë ideologjike dhe deri sa studentët mund që të keqpërdorin qëllimin kryesor të programit, punëdhënsit Amerikan poashtu shfrytëzojnë përparësinë e fuqisë puntorë e cila është e lirë e poashtu ndonjëherë edhe duke I paguar nën vlerë punëtorët e huaj. Megjithëatë, fletëpagesa është e lartë në Amerikë prej secilës punë verore që mund të kenë studentët në Maqedoni, kështu që është një mënyre e mirë për tu larguar nga situate e keqe ekonomike këtu”, shprehet Dejan Lutovski.

Shumë më shumë student, shumë më pak visa

“Janë 3300 aplikacionë në vit të kombinuara nga Maqedonia dhe Kosova, për arsye që Ambasada në Shkup është për të dyja shtetet. Vitin e kaluar, 2300 viza janë aprovuar, duke nënkuptuar që 2300 studentë nga rajoni kalojnë 3 deri në 4 muaj në SHBA. Edhe pse popullariteti I programit është I padiskutueshëm, numri I I aplikantëve ka pësuar rënie në 2 vitet e fundit, dhe është më shumë për shkak të vizave të aprovuara nga Ambasada Amerikane”, shpjegon Aleksandra Bozhinovska.

“Është hera e parë për mua të jam pjesë e këtij program, është një experiencë për ëndrrën Amerikane dhe që të komunikoj në anglisht me folësit vendor, andaj nuk mendoj që të hollat janë të rendësishmë. “Parashikimet nuk përputhen gjithnjë më realitetin”

Gjërat nuk lehtësohen pas arritjes në SHBA. Zakonisht, ushqimi dhe banimi mbulohen nga punëdhënësi, por ndonjëherë kandidatëve ju duhet që të menaxhojnë të gjithë vet, apartmentin, ushqimin, transportin për në punë. Maqedonët më shumë punojnë në turizëm (banakierë, kamerierë/e, ndihmës kuzhine, shërbyes dhomash, arkatarë etj.), duke u bazuar në experiencat e tyre të mëhershmë dhe nivelin e anglishtes, por ka edhe disa trajnime në vend, të cilat janë shumë të kërkuara. “ Arsyeja kryesore është, pritjet e studentëve nuk përputhen me realitetin gjithnjë”, deklaron Aleksandra Bozhinovska. “ Studentët janë të mësuar për të marrë më shumë e më pak të punojnë, këtu është punëdhënësi fajtor, thjeshtë sepse dështojnë për të kuptuar se mentaliteti Maqedon është ndryshe prej mentalitetit Amerikan, dhe nuk mund të presin njëjtë prej të gjithë punëtorëve”.

Si do që e mendoni, në fund gjithqka varet prej interpretimit individual. Nëse gota është e mbushur plot apo në gjysëm, nëse diqka që përshtatet për ju është puna apo ju konsideroni udhëtimin si udhëtim edhe athëherë kur lexoni një libër, gjithqka varet nga ju, nuk ka armiqësi të mbajtur. Andaj të gjithë në bord, le të filloj sezona Punë dhe Udhëtim !

NON-FORMAL VS. FORMAL EDUCATION In March 2014 Volunteers Centre Skopje implemented with the support of Youth in Action Programme of the European Union training course “NFE: Let the Young People Learn�.

During the project the participants had an opportunity to reflect on various challenges connected with recognition of non-formal education as to explore realities in participants countries... Get the insight into it also through the articles written by the participants of the training course.

N

on-formal education in Poland is carried out by many non-profit organisations, e.g. associations and foundations and social centres, which involve local youth in various activities. For example, some ways of implementing non-formal education involve volunteering activities, exchange projects, seminars, trainings and internships, etc. More and more young people in Poland are engaged in non-formal education activities, both those who are high achievers and want to use their skills and knowledge in their local community, as well as those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, dropped out from school and wish to explore alternative ways of educating themselves, outside of the formal education system. This way gives them the chance to learn the skills and put them in practice so that they will gain valuable experience, not only theoretical knowledge, which is taught in the more formal educational settings. Youth centres and ngos are therefore involved into activating local youth, both in their local environment, as well as by promoting opportunities involving gaining international experience, e.g. EVS or Youth in Action exchanges. However, the problem may be that non-formal education experience is most usually not recognised by employers (unless it is the employer active in the third sector -most ngos regognise Youthpasses and volunteering certificates). Therefore the issue of recognition when it comes to non-formal education is still something to discuss and work on.

oldova, although it’s making changes towards a more European mentality and best practices, still has a long way to go to move away from the Soviet principles. The same applies for education. Formal education is well known and recognized.

Academic institutions prefer a more conservative, formal, and planned method of teaching and learning. Non-formal education is just now starting to be considered an option, so there are no visible results yet. In my opinion, people of Moldova think that if we focus too much on non-formal education, we might disregard completely the formal one and might not have good results in the end. There should be more projects organized by NGOs and public institutions to promote the idea of non-formal education and teach about how it can be combined with formal education in order to reach better results.

Case in point, we have a small language center in Moldova. In our courses, we use elements of non-formal education in a formal education environment. The students like the practice and the experience, and ask for it later during courses,saying that it’s creative, interesting, and interactive. In our case the mix of formal and non-formal education practices seems to be very effective. We are probably the only institution, or one of the few, who adapted this concept and observed its outstanding results. I truly believe that Moldova needs to know more about non-formal education and how it goes hand-in-hand with formal education for visible results.

rsimimimin joformal në Poloni e praktikojnë shumë organizata joqeveritare, fondacione ,organizata dhe qendra sociale, të cilët i përfshijnë të rinjtë lokal në shumë aktivitete.

Për shembull, një mënyrë e aplikimit e mësimit joformal janë projektet për shkëmbim, seminare, trajnimi dhe praktikat ndërkombëtare.

Gjithnjë e më tepër të rritë në Poloni kyçen në aktivitet e arsimimit joformal, ata të cilët janë prestigjioz dhe dëshirojnë që shkathtësinë dhe diturinë e tyre ti përdorin në rrethinën e tyre lokale, si dhe ata të cilët rrjedhin nga mjedis më pak të mira, të pa arsimuar dhe dëshirojnë të gjejnë mënyrë tjetër që të arsimohen jashtë nga sistemi arsimor formal. Në këtë mënyrë kanë mundësi të mësojnë shkathtësi të reja dhe të njëjtat ti aplikojnë në praktikë nëpërmjet të së cilës do të marin përvojë dhe jo vetëm dituri teorike e cila merret në suaza të shkollën formale. Organizatat formale dhe joformale ekzistojnë pikërisht që ti kyçin të rritë në rrethin e tyre lokal dhe gjithashtu nëpërmjet të promovimit të mundësive për fitim të praktikës ndërkombëtare si p.sh. EVS apo Të rritë në Aksion. Megjithatë problemi qëndron në të se zakonisht praktika joformale nuk është i pranuar nga punëdhënësit ( përveç nëse punëdhënësi është i kyçur në sektorin e tretë- shumica e organizatave joqeveritare i pranojnë diplomat dhe certifikatat për vullnetarë). Megjithatë problemi rreth pranimit të shkollës joformale ende ngel lëndë e diskutimit dhe grindjes.

Shkollimi formal është mirë i njohur dhe i pranuar. Institucionet akademike praktikojnë më shumë mësim dhe ligjërata konservatore, formale dhe metoda sipas planit.

Arsimimi joformal vetëm sa filloi të konsiderohet si mundësi, dhe për shkak të saj nuk ka rezultate të cilat shihen. Sipas meje, njerëzit në Moldavi mendojnë se ne shumë fokusohemi në arsimimin joformal, se ndoshta tërësisht do ta neglizhojmë arsimimin dhe në fund do të mund të mbesim pa rezultate të mira. Duhet të organizohen më shumë projekte nga ana e organizatave joqeveritare dhe institucionet publike të cilët do ta promovojnë idenë për arsimimit joformal dhe do të ligjërojnë rreth asaj se do të mundej që arsimimi joformal të kombinohet me arsim formal me qëllim që të arrijnë rezultate më të mira.

Për shembull në Moldavi kemi qendër të vogël për gjuhë. Në kurset tona ne praktikojmë elemente nga arsimimi joformal në rrethanat e arsimimit formal. Studentëve ju pëlqen praktika dhe përvoja, dhe e kërkojnë ende atë gjatë kurseve, duke konstatuar se është interaktive, interesante dhe kreative. Në rastin tonë përzierja e arsimimit formal dhe joformal u tregua efektive. Ne ndoshta jemi të vetëm apo një nga institucionet e pakta të cilat u përshtaten këtyre metodave dhe arritëm rezultatet të shkëlqyera. Unë me të vërtetë besoj se Moldavia duhet të dijë më shumë rreth arsimimit joformal dhe si shkon ajo dorë pas dore në arsimimin formal për rezultatet të cilat mund të shihen.

RADICAL TRANSFORMATION Patrick Miller

I

t is crazy just how lost I became in this week. Coming in from Moldova, I had a plan to structure each one of my days around the trainings and knowledge I could extract from each topic. I wanted to meet as many participants as possible and discover their skill sets.

Something special happened. I found myself getting lost in the fellow trainees and rhythm of each session. It was therapeutic yet very heavy to step back into the past, to expose my inner fears and shame to strangers, to uncover the dark moments, to experience childhood again, and to hear the stories of other guests. I chose the reality I created for myself at the event and at times it was painful to think about.

In the “real world� I get very caught up in day-to-day assignments, email threads, and goals in my career, so to step back and remember that I am human may not have felt at all times comfortable, but was indeed needed.

We Are All Made of Stories allowed me to meet an electric and unfiltered personality from Albania, to understand the contrasts of Serbian language across Bosnia, Macedonia, and the other Balkan states, to dive deeper inside the issues facing Ukraine, to learn basic French, to hear an incredible life story of a man from Czech Republic, to forge a strong bond with a Slovakian screenwriter, to witness a Latvian man create a business model and vision for his nation, to joyfully speak Romanian with Romanians, and to enjoy a full body massage from a warmhearted Russian girl.

With one day remaining in Latvia I foresee the next steps coming ahead with added motivation and clarity. I will head back to site in Moldova to complete three months of Peace Corps service with renewed focus. My aims are to put together a great skills enhancement training for volunteers and Moldovans on June 7th, to complete a city economic development plan for my community, and to enjoy the warm days ahead in Leova with local friends.

This opportunity has allowed me to realize that I still have room to grow and mature. I have also acknowledged that friends can be made anywhere, at any time, and for any duration. I know that I will not have the opportunity to see a lot of these faces again, but I will always remember how special Lacites was for me, in this space, in this time.

BREA STOR Knarik Gevorgyan, Armenia I had never been to Asia. The only ‘story’ I knew about it was related to China as a cheap country, to Korea being ‘two’ – north and south, and to Japan – having Sony and Panasonic.

I got to move to live in Korea, Seoul, where I found out that the two Koreas only are very different, China is a huge country with many both rich and poor people, and Japan is a cradle of civilization where the sun rises first.

When I was travelling in Cambodia I decided to go see an ancient and forgotten ‘What’ (temple) in the north of the country. I bought a bus ticket from Phnom Phen and it turns out I was sold a non-existent bus ticket to nowhere. I was sent to a random desert in Cambodia all alone with not much money on me. I was cursing every single Cambodia thinking they are cheaters and liars.

My single story was broken when in that same desert a Cambodian family who lives on a $1 profit a day gave me their last dollar and found a bus for me back to my hotel in Phnom Phen.

There are kind and evil people in each society.

Simona Tamosiunaite, Lithuania I like travelling. All kind of different techniques of it. But when I start hitchhiking, my family was not so excited about it. First my bigger trip was from Lithuania to Paris when I was in high school. I still remember my grandmother’s reaction about my plans. She went full of scaring thoughts.

And she think that it is especially dangerous, especially for two hitchhikers - GIRLS. Somehow I was more optimistic about it and still believe that’s a lot of nice people are out there, and it is meant for me to meet them. I was more right than my grandmother, who even nowadays feels bad when I leave my country. But coming back to the story, together with my best friend, we met a lot of generous, kind and caring people. And we found out that people abroad are very nice and hitchhiking for girls is easier than for boys, who feel safer and can defend themselves more easily.

My grandma was very surprised hearing my successfully-ended stories from hitchhiking of two nice Lithuanian GIRLS.

No rules for the players to become the pride of their neighborhood. It’s no longer a question of sports but the strongest expression of the city’s culture: Calcio Storico.

THREE DAYS OF WAR

W

hen I am visiting a foreign country, I often wonder what the popular sports are. Not surprisingly, the answer is always the same: football, football and football.

In my opinion, there are both relevant explanations for this phenomenon. First of all, hundreds years ago English people invented and codified most of the current sports as the football of course. At this time, the huge English colonial empire has sorely contributed to spread, often by force, these sports in colonies. That’s why now, Indian people are big fans of cricket and Jamaican people are mad of football. Fortunately, colonization ended and former colonies became independent countries; but without denying their entire colonial heritage, in particular as regards the sports.

This leads us to my second point: today globalization plays the role of colonization. Indeed, globalization can be seen as a soft colonization by the market.

Economic and financial competition between countries at the world scale leads us to consume the same goods, to like the same movies, to think in the same way everywhere. I can already hear ardent defenders of the ongoing globalization process, trying to explain me that it contributes to decrease the poverty in the world. To have studied economics, I know that the problem is not as simple and I can agree about some good aspects of globalization but in any case, specificities, secular traditions, savoir faire are gradually disappearing. This dynamic works also on sports.

But, don’t worry, breathe deeply, all is not lost thanks to the people of Florence, Italia. They have been fighting against the standardization of sport for a long time, in continuing to practice this sport as old as the town itself. It’s more than a game. It refers to traditions, to the culture of the city, to the pride of each neighborhood and it’s known as the Calcio Storico.

No one knows exactly when Calcio Storico was first played in Florence. But its pitch, the piazza of Santa Croce in the middle of the city, dates from the 14th century and the rules of the game -in so far as there are any-, were written down in 1580 by Giovanni Bardi. The aim is for players to get the ball over the fence at either end of the pitch. To achieve this, players can use both hands and feet, as well as every other part of the body when it comes to wrestling, punching and generally immobilizing their opponents on the way.

Once a year, a tournament opposes four teams coming from the historic neighborhoods of the city: Santa Spiritu, San Giovanni, Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce, named for their great local churches. This event attracts hundreds of thousands people and festivities override the scope of sport. Each team trains throughout the year for this single moment, for a violent fight in order to defend their colors. You could think that this sport is only silly, violent and uninteresting but for me it’s the quintessential expression of the sport, beyond the reason.

Долго време тие се борат против стандардизацијата на спортот, продолжувајќи да го практикуваат овој спорт стар како и самиот град. Тоа е повеќе од игра. Се однесува на традициите, на културата во градот, на гордоста на секое соседство и е познато како Калчо Сторико. Никој не знае кога точно за првпат Калчо Сторико се одиграл во Фиренца. Но, теренот, плоштадот Санта Кројц во срцето на градот, датира од 14-век, а правилата за игра- доколку има некои- ги запишал Џовани Барди во 1580. Целта на играчите е да ја префрлат топката преку оградата до еден дел од теренот. За да го постигнат ова, играчите може да ги користат и двете раце и стапала, како и секој друг дел од телото, кога станува збор за борење, удирање и главно блокирање на патот на нивните противници. Еднаш годишно, турнирот спротивставува четири тима кои доаѓаат од четирите историски соседства од градот: Санта Спириту, Сан Џовани, Санта Марија Новела и Санта Кројц, именувани според нивните големи локални цркви. Овој настан привлекува илјадници луѓе а прославите го засенуваат спортскиот терен. Секој тим тренира во текот на годината за овој единствен момент, за насилна борба со цел да ги одбранат нивните бои. Би можел да мислиш дека овој спорт е смешен, насилен, неинтересен, но за мене тој е суштински израз на спортот, над разумот. Кога посетувам странска држава, честопати се прашувам кои се популарните спортови. Она што не изненадува е тоа дека одговорот е секогаш ист : фудбал,фудбал и фудбал.

Според мене има две релевантни објаснувања за овој феномен. Најпрвин, пред стотици години, Англичаните ги измислиле и кодифицирале најактуелните спортови како што е фудбалот секако. Денеска огромната англиска колонијална империја длабоко придонесува, најчесто присилно, за проширување на овие спортови во колониите. Токму заради тоа, луѓето од Индија се големи фанови на крикет а луѓето од Јамајка се луди по фудбал. За среќа колонизацијата заврши а поранешните колонии станаа независни држави, но без да го негираат нивното целосно колонијално наследство кое главно се однесува на спортот. Ова не води до втората точка : денес глобализацијата ја игра улогата на колонизацијата. Навистина, пазарот ја гледа глобализацијата како нежна колонизација. Економското и финансиското натпреварување меѓу државите во светска мера не води кон тоа да конзумираме исти добра, да сакаме исти филмови, да мислиме на ист начин насекаде. Веќе можам да ги замислам верните одбранувачо на глобализацискиот процес кој е во тек, обидувајќи се да ми објаснат дека тоа допринесува да се намали сиромаштијата во светот. Да имам студирано економија, знам дека проблемот не е толку едноставен и можам да се согласам за некои позитивни работи од глобализацијата, но во секој случај, особеностите, стогодишните традиции, умешноста постепено исчезнуваат. Оваа динамика исто така се однесува и на спортот.

OBSERVE RETHINK ACT: URBAN ENVIRONMENT & INCLUSION Елена Трпевска и Ана Јанкуловска

О

д 19 до 29 Април во Бања Лука (Босна и Херцеговина) се одржа тренинг курс на тема “Observe Rethink Act: urban environment & inclusion”. На тренинг курсот учествуваа 35 млади од 10 земји од Европа. Главна цел на настанот беше да ја промовира ОРА мрежата која преку креирање и реализирање на работилници, тренинзи, семинари, размени и јавни настани има за цел да промовира активно граѓанство, волонтерството, да поттикне младински работници, како и да се зачува и подигне свеста за биодиверзитетот и заштитените области како национални паркови. Не случајно беше одбран градот Бања Лука како домаќин на овој тренинг курс бидејки до неодамна беше познат по зеленилото, големите паркови и чистиот воздух, што не е и случај во последниве години кога забрзано и без урбанистички план се гради насекаде, притоа сечејки ги дрвата и загадувајки ја околината со што се уништува градскиот простор кој е наменет за одмор и релаксација. Првите два дена беа резервирани за запознавање на учесниците и градот преку интересни Icebreaking games. Беше организиран саем на организациите кои кои земаа учество на тренингот како и интернационална вечера на која беа претставени дел од деликатесите на земјите учеснички. Наредните денови учесниците беа поделени во три групи и тоа: урбанo градинарство, дизајн тим и тим за едукација. Членовите од групата на урбаното градинарство имаа за цел да уредат школски двор и да изградат кутии за овошје и зеленчук преку рециклирање на палети. Дизајн тимот изработи стрип наменет за младите со цел да ја разберат потребата од зеленило и природа во градот и како да се зачува истата. Тимот за едукација имаше за цел преку опсервирање и набљудување на околината да ги воочи недостатоците долж брегот на реката Врбас и да даде идеи како истите да се надокнадат. Исто така овој тим имаше за задача да ги запознае децата од локалното училиште во Бања Лука со живиот свет кој живее во и покрај реката Врбас преку интересни приказни поврзани за животните и растенијата. Последниот ден, крајните резултати од работата беа презентирани пред останатите учесници и заинтереснираното локално население. Се на се незаборавно искуство и беспрекорна 10 дневна организација која не потклекна пред временските предизвици кои не нè спречија да ги реализираме до крај зацртаните цели.

Bright-pink poster was an obvious sign of warm, cozy, not complicated movie to watch with female friends on Saturday evening. As it happened many times in my life I was tricky misled, though I can’t really complain about that.

eaving calm and peaceful life Theodore works as a letter writer. In the free time he plays video games and occasionally meets friends. Theodore is divorced and still can’t forget about his previous life, wife and feelings. The dead-center come when he decides to install a new operation system on his devices. Story of melancholic life, short moments of happiness which are taken away faster than we manage to get use to them are surprisingly and at the same time interesting illustrated by wonderful, bit blurred, cordial photos. What also charmed me was concept of the future.

While watching I had an impression that we are back in 70’s with the clothes, style of being, old fashioned mustaches and haircuts. That background caused dissonance with enormous amount of technology present all around and all the time. Technology which dominated human life but can’t really manage his feelings. The other reason why I decided to introduce that movie to a broader audience is it’s soundtrack. Perfectly combined with the internal life of the main character, sometimes soothing and restful, sometimes that worrisome that causes goose-bumps on your skin.

I hear in “Her” echo of sorrow. The end could suggest hope for the future and promise of brighter days but what was the most visible for me is despondency of human being and forlorn hope. Although I highly recommend that movie, to reflect on yourself, on our generation and to answer the question: What will happen to us?
