We invite you to elevate your expectations.

I was recently cycling past the gentle slopes of a Tuscan vineyard. Rounding a bend, I came upon a truly epic valley of green. It was awe inspiring. Tuscany is always magnificent, but the perfect biking route can bring whole new levels of surprise and delight.

That’s the story of VBT. We transform a bike tour into something spectacular, an epic experience that not only exceeds your expectations; it leaves them miles behind. Our trip designers tirelessly seek out routes that set your spirits soaring. Sample cuisine whose flavors transport you. Meticulously inspected hotels steeped in local character and charm. And partner with brilliant trip leaders who connect you to a place in ways you never imagined.

Ask yourself what you expect in a bike tour. Then raise those expectations a tenfold. That’s VBT. That’s what we’re committed to. We so look forward to welcoming you.

What if I haven’t ridden a bike in years? We welcome all levels of cyclists. Our trips are rated “easy,” “moderate,” and “challenging,” so you can quickly find one that suits you. On tour, you can ride as little or as much as you’d like. Still not sure? Choose one of our E-bikes for a little assistance.

Will the bike you provide fit me when I get to my destination? Your comfort is the most important thing to us. You’ll provide us your height when you reserve so we’ll have the right size bike waiting. Then your trip leaders will make adjustments to make sure it’s an ideal fit.

How many miles will I ride each day? It depends on how your tour is rated. “Easy” tours include 15-35 miles a day while more moderate tours clock in at 25-40. On other tours, you could ride up to 60 miles daily if you’re up for it. But you always have a choice, with most days offering several different mileage options.

What kind of surfaces will I ride on? Our routes follow mostly paved roads. But some byways in the countryside might be gravel and some streets in medieval villages and towns might be cobblestone. After you reserve, you’ll receive your VBT Welcome Handbook with details about your specific trip.

What are the hotels like? We choose smaller, family-run hotels that exude the character of the destination: a restored historic farmhouse in Italy, a French chateau. Wherever you travel with us, you’ll stay in clean, stylish 3-, 4-, and 5-star hotels that we have personally inspected for you.

Will VBT arrange my air travel? We’re happy to! Our Air Package also includes an extra hotel night or two at the beginning and/or end of your trip, daily breakfast, and airport transfers.

What is a Self-Guided Bike Vacation? Our Self-Guided Bike Vacations are the perfect blend of independence and peace of mind—private, turn-key vacations with unforgettable biking excursions. We arrange your accommodations and moving luggage between hotels, provide detailed route instructions, and have a local representative to welcome you and lend a hand along the way.

If a guest is unsure where they would like to travel, I like to take the time to discuss their interests and compare itineraries with them so we can together find the perfect destination. I have had the pleasure of talking with foodies, history buffs, wine enthusiasts, and folks who just want to see the world on a bicycle and meet new people. It’s a highlight of my day to help them determine which of our tours is right for them.”
