Welcome Greetings from

Devender Sandhu Chair, Vaughan Public Library Board

Welcome to What’sOn at the Library Thanks to all who attended the Civic Centre Resource Library’s recent Official Grand Opening Celebration! Excitement filled the air as thousands joined us to formally open our ninth location. Expanding our services into more neighbourhoods continues. We held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Vellore Village South Library. The hourglass-shaped, 8,300 sq. ft. facility is being built with comfortable seating, nature-inspired elements, quiet study spaces and a balcony overlooking the Vellore Village Community Centre skate park. Be sure to stay up to date with the details on our building blog, www.vaughanpl.info/ building/. Library buildings are not the only new things to check out—be sure to visit VPL’s CREATE IT! studios offering three distinct creation spaces with semi-professional equipment including 3D printers, a green room and a music recording studio and MAKE IT! which houses

state-of-the-art technology, including a 3D printer and Carvey® machine. I am also pleased to share that one of the Vaughan Public Library Board Members, Mrs. Isabella Ferrara, was conferred with the coveted Order of Vaughan for this year. In addition, Margie Singleton, CEO of Vaughan Public Libraries has been selected as a Mentor for the Northern Exposure to Leadership Institute, based in Jasper, which has over 25 years of success in contributing to the leadership competencies of Canadian librarians. New services and programs are also available! For travellers, our libraries now have portable GPS Navigators preloaded with maps of Canada and the U.S. available for borrowing to all valid VPL cardholders. For those with cherished memories in old formats (slides, VHS tapes, etc.) Woodbridge Library has, along with the necessary instruction, equipment for digital preservation and transfer. Thanks to funding provided by the Government of Ontario you are able to bring new life to your memories and put them into a format that you can use. Look through this issue of What’sOn and let VPL Enrich, Inspire and Transform your life—past, present and future!
