Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) celebrated the Teen Awards on October 18, 2011 at the City Playhouse Theatre, honouring the Early Harvest Competition winners, the top reader from the Teen Summer Reading Challenge and VPL’s teen volunteers. All teens received a certificate recognizing their achievements and the 25 Early Harvest Competition winners were presented with cash prizes of up to $100 for their creative accomplishments in the categories of writing, sketching and painting, photography and videography. This year’s award ceremony featured lively performances by Teresa Tucci and Adam Cesarone, two of the finalists from the new talent show - SHOWUP! Vaughan 2011. Both performances were full of energy and were much enjoyed by the audience. After the ceremony, families and friends had the opportunity to view all the winning entries in the Early Harvest Competition and the winners of the Short Story and Poetry categories even had a chance to meet with their judges, Deborah Kerbel and Elana Wolff. The Early Harvest magazine which features all the award-winning entries is available online and at all seven branches of VPL.
