From the Volunteer’s Desk It is rightly said, "If you light up a lamp for somebody it will also brighten your path" Hi Friends, I feel privileged to be a part of the PUNYA TEAM. As a person I do not think I have achieved enough that I can afford myself a peaceful sleep, hence volunteering for this noble cause is something different that I am doing for myself and it has somehow created a zeal within me to make a difference to at least a handful. I believe in the fact that you and me are blessed and can initiate to help others get those blessings reach them that are caught half way through and do not find its way. You never know that a small smile that you give to others might be the only sunshine they experience for all their lives. Punya executed couple of projects in the first quarter of 2011. In Chennai, Punya team provided financial assistance for three partially deserving blind girl students. Inside Story

Support Anna Hazare – And India’s Dream to Rise Against Corruption

Frequently asked Questions with Answers for Better Awareness! Q1. What is India against Corruption movement? Answer: India Against Corruption is a citizen's movement to demand strong anti-corruption law. It is an expression of collective anger of people of India against corruption. We have all come together to force/request/persuade/pressurize the Government to enact the Jan Lokpal Bill. We feel that if this Bill were enacted it would create an effective deterrence against corruption. It is also a movement of several concerned citizens of India who have come together to demand comprehensive reforms of anti-corruption systems in India and to put an end to the dark corridors of power. Q2 . Our Anti corruption system needs a change.WHY??? Answer: Why is it that no one goes to jail in our country despite indulging in corruption? This is because we have completely rotten anti-corruption laws and anti-corruption agencies that it is almost impossible for the corrupt to be penalized. Q3. What’s the Solution to Change our Existing System ? Answer: Justice Santosh Hegde (former Supreme Court Judge and present Lokayukta of Karnataka), Prashant Bhushan (Supreme Court Lawyer) and Arvind Kejriwal (activist) have together drafted a strong anti-corruption law called Jan Lokpal Bill which requires that investigations into any case should be completed within a year and the trial should get over in the next one year so that a corrupt person goes to jail within two years of complaint and his ill gotten wealth is confiscated

Q4, What’s the existing Law initially proposed by UPA Govt? Answer: Lokpal Bill has been introduced eight times in Parliament since 1968. All the eight versions have been very weak. Even these weak versions have not been passed so far because Lokpal Bill seeks to investigate politicians. The latest draft of Lokpal Bill prepared by the present UPA government is a complete eyewash. Rather than strengthen anti-corruption systems, it demolishes whatever exists in the name of anticorruption systems today. It seeks to completely insulate politicians from any kind of action against them Q5. What ‘s the difference between Jan Lokpal Bill and Government’s Lokpal Bill.? Answer : Click here to read comparison between Jan Lokpal Bill and Government’s Lokpal Bill. Q6. Who is Anna Hazare? Answer: Anna Hazare , is an Indian social activist who is especially recognized for his contribution to the development of Ralegan Siddhi, a village in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, India . He is also an Ex-Army man having fought Indo-Pak and Indo-China Wars. Q7. What's so special about him? Answer: The village developed by him is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills. In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village. Q8. Really, what is he fighting for? Answer: He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India. He is advocating for a Bill, The Jan Lokpal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), bureaucrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds. Q9. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such a short span of time? Answer: The first thing he is asking for is: the government should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed. Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the JAN LOKPAL BILL. 50% government participation and 50% public participation. Because you can't trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.

Q10. Fine, What will happen when this bill is passed? Answer: A LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Not like, Bofors scam or Bhopal Gas Tragedy case, that has been going for last 25 years without any result Q11. Is he alone? Whoelse is there in the fight with Anna Hazare? Answer : Baba Ramdev, Ex. IPS Kiran Bedi, Social Activist Swami Agnivesh, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal and many more. Prominent personalities like Aamir Khan is supporting his cause. Q12 : Ok, got it. What can I do? Answer : We can do our best by creating awareness and spreading the message. How? Putting status message, links, video, changing profile pics in social Networking Sites. By doing this, Our next generation can see the India which we always wanted to see ! Shining INDIA!
