The Canal District is a proposal to embrace floodwater on the Covington side of the Ohio River to tackle the regular and repetitive flooding the design evolves around the concept of MOVE-ABSORB-STORE, which elaborates on welcoming the water and channeling it through the site and creating a new typology of urban design using conventional design strategies.
The proposal, in detail, shows water management by designing different edge conditions that otherwise function as excellent public interaction spaces along the water. Still, in case of floods, the edges accommodate the water, giving rise to a new typology of edge conditions. The site adapts to the increase in water levels gracefully, without affecting the user behavior, and thus embracing floods. This concept is thought with an intention to solve the flooding issue anywhere in the world which is tend to be a unavoidable normal of the future.
