WHAT? Into the Woods is an educational building and play area for marginalized children in Wonolopo Village, Mijen, Semarang Regency.

Inspired by the Jentera Asa community, it is part of the Diponegoro University BEM, specifically in the Community Social (Sosmas) Education and Public Affairs (Edufair) division which focuses on issues of education, health, marginalization.

Jentera Asa has problems such as a lack of land to carry out activities so it needs to use the houses of local residents.

Sometimes it still feels crowded because the number of children fluctuates between 10-30 per week. With this building, it can provide a more appropriate forum for carrying out social activities: studying, playing. seminars, and health checks.

The Community

WHY? Poverty is one of the main challenges affecting Indonesia in achieving its ambitious vision, namely to become a golden country by 2045. Even though Indonesia has experienced significant economic growth in recent years, social inequality and economic inequality are still serious problems.

Poverty can hinder inclusive economic growth, hinder access to education and health services, and limit human potential.

Therefore, to achieve a Golden Indonesia by 2045, the government and society need to work together in efforts to reduce poverty, increase access to education, and create more and quality jobs for all levels of society.

Design Concept The environment around the site is experiencing a clean water crisis and high temperatures due to climate change. Therefore, we apply Bioclimatic Architecture to buildings. Starting from how to respond to the climate at the site, macro and micro climate scales.

Apart from that, it also responds to ways to achieve thermal comfort that is expected to be enjoyed by users in the building.

The application in this building is to minimize the use of lights and air conditioning by increasing the number of openings so that air circulation and lighting are sufficient.

For the walls, we also use glass block material which can maximize natural lighting in the room which can absorb high temperatures so that thermal comfort is still achieved.

Apart from that, glass blocks also add aesthetic value.

We brought on Japanese mataphor ‘Ikigai’ to the housing. Ikigai means the purpose of life to reach the balance living. Therefore, we also applied Japanese architecture to housing, minimalist, symmetry, and its characteristic ornament.

Design Concept

Location : Kampung Rawa, Kab. Semarang

Kampung Eceng Gondok is a water hyacinth conservation space using the "Hyacinth" concept itself, starting from the space program, zoning, to materials.

The first program is focusing on Ecology. This is beneficial for the environment because it designs architectural designs with the aim of reducing surrounding environmental problems - conservation by processing water hyacinth which is an issue. Also Education program was held with the aim of teaching and building ecological awareness in the community.

Issue The problem of eutrophication in Kampung Rawa, Semarang Regency, is a serious issue that affects the balance of the aquatic ecosystem. Eutrophication occurs when water experiences increased levels of nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, which stimulate excessive algae growth. This is caused by Livestock waste, Agricultural waste, and Population Waste.

House & Art Gallery is double function house where this building functions as a residence and a commercial space for the home owner, art gallery. This House brought up tropical modern concept that combines modern elements with a warm and natural tropical touch. This design creates a comfortable, functional and open space, while maintaining a close connection to the natural surroundings.

We used wood and concrete for the material to creates tropical and neutral impression on the building. A spacious innercourt inside the house for air circulation and natural lighting.

Also we have large open space to cools the environment even though this building is located in a place that tends to have high temperatures.

Taman Interaksi Subject : Introduction of Landscape Design Supervisor : Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Purwanto, M.T.

Taman Interaksi is a group assignment to redesign 'Taman Rumah Kita' which is located on the Diponegoro University campus. For several years now, this park has rarely been visited by students and the locals, so this park has become stalled. This redesign was carried out in order to revive 'Taman Rumah Kita’

Each student definitely has a different personality and currently there are issues related to student individualism, such as the lack of interaction between fellow students as "friends" or outside the interests of lectures.

However, establishing relationships with fellow students is very important because students are social humans who need interaction. This interaction can also be called Interpersonal. Interpersonal itself is a process of communication between two or more people face to face, a small example of which is being empathetic to solving problems.

Apart from interpersonal work, quality time is also needed to build relationships.

Therefore, without losing the essence of "Taman Rumah Kita", Taman Interaksi will be redesigned as a gathering place for students after lectures to interact or be interpersonal with each other in the hope of increasing solidarity between students.
