John Weems

John Weems was 77 years old when he passed away on July 1, 2022. He was a 16 year Parts Phone Room Salesperson at Highway 90 in Houston and had 49 years of experience selling Volvo Trucks and Equipment Parts.

Above all, John enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. They were his greatest joy and pride; he never missed a game, recital, play, concert, or horse show John enjoyed many hobbies, including working on cars and woodworking. He served his community through the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years as an active scoutmaster. John also served as a District Commissioner for Raven District, Sam Houston Area Council. John was a friend to everyone he met, with a ready smile and a kind word. John was a fantastic storyteller and would have you on the edge of your seat, waiting for his stories to unfold. The pride he took in the work he did for Vanguard's customers was unparalleled He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Dorothy Weems, sister: Margie Rightmier; sons: Travis, Justin, John, William; daughter: Ludie, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. We enjoyed having John on our team, and we miss him more than words can express.

Morrison was a Used Truck Sales Representative at our Forest Park location in Atlanta. He was brand new to the Vanguard Family when he passed away July 11, 2022, at 28 years old. Here are a few words from his supervisor Seth Norman.

Dewayne Taylor

New General Manager of Austin Operations

DeWayne joined the Vanguard Team in August of 2022. He comes to us with 24 years of industry experience, 10 of which were spent with Volvo Trucks North America, holding various roles in Service Operations, National Accounts, and Dealer Development. DeWayne relocated to Austin from Northwest Arkansas with his spouse and two teenage daughters. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership. Some of DeWayne's hobbies include Mountain/Gravel Biking and spending time with the family outdoors

Doug Branham

New General Manager of Macon Operations

Doug joined Vanguard in October 2022 as the new Manager of Macon Operations. He brings more than 15 years of industry experience with him; Doug began his career as a technician and worked his way up to where he is today He believes he was drawn to Vanguard because of its core values and the rare opportunity it presented to work with a great team that is driven and focused. His wife Jamie and children Brantley, Lela, and Dominic are Doug's biggest motivators. Outside of work, Doug enjoys coaching softball, restoring vintage vehicles, and outdoor activities Doug had this to say about what's next, "I look forward to growing our business and Macon and expanding the Vanguard footprint in middle Georgia!"

We welcomed team Macon to the Vanguard Family this past June. They're the newest addition to the Atlanta Region. Previously Gilbert Truck Centers, they are a tight knit hard working Crew, and we are thrilled they are now apart of Vanguard.

1ST ELECTRIC TRUCK VANGUARD SALES

Greensboro, NC

Norm Latham is a New Truck Sales Rep out of the Greensboro Dealership He delivered the first electric truck sold by Vanguard Trucks in August 2022. The truck was sold to a national account domiciled in CA. The process to deliver the electric truck has been a long haul The vehicle was ordered in May 2021. Norm had to take CA electric vehicle voucher incentive training and pass their certification test before he could receive approval to apply for a voucher He was awarded a voucher of $120,000 out of $6M available, which was distributed within one hour. The voucher process was complicated, and Norm stayed on it through dealer name changes and model year changes, any of which could have voided the voucher qualification. Norm made extra trips to support the customer at the Volvo Customer Center and patiently waited six months after invoicing for the truck to be delivered Great job Norm on making Vanguard history!

ELECTRIC TRUCK VIEWING

VTC Austin hosted a showing of the New Electric Mack Truck on Sep More than ten businesses from the Austin area showed up to view the truck and hear from VTC Austin Salesmen and Mack personnel.

AC CERTIFICATION CLASS

MEI Corporation held an AC certification class on Saturday, June 25th, at our Buda location They invited all Refuse and Ready Mix companies in the Austin area and provided a Taco Truck for lunch The event was a huge success and had a turnout of 64 people

VANGUARD'S INFLUENCE

Lauren Concrete is one of VTC Austin’s biggest Customers, at their Annual company picnic they chose to make a Mack Truck out of cardboard to “shoot” gifts to kids out the back of it Lauren Concrete really loves the Mack Trucks they get from VTC Austin Sales Manager Terry Lancaster. .

Day of Service in ATL

Vanguards Forest Park Location recently Partnered with the Atlanta Food Bank to feed 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. This event was coordinated by Calina Kimbrough, Payroll Specialist from our Shared Services Department. In addition to coordinating the event, Calina also secured stylish Vanguard Day of Service T shirts and lunch for employees who volunteered. The event presented an exciting opportunity for members of the Vanguard team to serve the community and engage with colleagues in different departments and members of Hersheys and Home Depot organizations.

The El Paso Vanguard team in El Paso participated as a Platinum Sponsor for the inaugural Guardians of the Children Golf Tournament. Angel Munoz, Vice President of Operations for JJA Munoz Trucking is a member of the Guardians of the Children Charity, along with is wife Amber. Juan Munoz, Angel’s dad is the President for JJA Munoz Trucking and participated in the Golf Tournament, as well.

They were fortunate to have participation from Volvo Trucks (Scott Parten and Daniel Cabral), along with VFS (Rich Barker and Chet Daniel). The Vanguard El Paso golfers were Alicia Lujan, Priscila Holguin, Joey Sepulbeda, Joseph Sepulbeda, Brent Messerli, Juan Martinez Alex Correa and Dylan Walton (from AF Services). The Volvo/VFS team came in second in the tournament; we think they actually won! And Scott won closest to the hole on Hole 10. Many prizes were raffled off and members of the Vanguard team won multiple items.

It was a great event, enjoyed by all and the opportunity to support a great cause.

More than 50 D.A.T.E. students from Western Tech located in El Paso, Texas, posed for a photo in their Vanguard hats during Vanguard's Recruiting Director Layce Cason's quarterly visit. Juan Martinez, Service Manager at Vanguard El Paso, accompanied Layce on her visit; The duo successfully recruited Samuel De La Garza and Christian Galvan to the El Paso shop and Humberto Velasco to the Tucson shop. Administrator for the Vanguard El Paso Dealership in August 2022. He is a veteran of the US Marine Corps where he served for, 4 years. John is a 2020 graduate of Western Technical College in El Paso and came to work for Vanguard as a part time intern in December 2020. He transitioned to hourly tech in August 2021 and then to full time tech in September 2021. John achieved Volvo Drivetrain Master Tech status in March of 2022. We look forward to John’s success in this vital role for Vanguard in El Paso.

Wade Goldberg joined the Vanguard Austin team 8 years ago as an Outside Parts Sales Rep. In 2017, he was promoted to Outside Sales Manager, and in August 2022, Wade was promoted to Austin's Regional Parts Sales Manager. Wade has taken great pride in all his positions and served as the Safety Lead for Georgetown and Buda's safety programs.
