GUY WILLIAMS AS ZORRO
Walt Disney’s television series “Zorro” debuted on October 10, 1957. It was an immediate success and instantly turned the show’s star, Guy Williams, into a major TV celebrity and hero for legions of fans. As part of the promotion for the show, Walt Disney had Williams makes several personal appearances at Disneyland between 1958 and 1960. The appearances would help encourage viewers at home to visit the park, and to help encourage those at the park to watch the television program. The events, known as “Zorro Days at Disneyland”, featured sword fighting, stunt work, parades, and signings with Williams himself in character as both Zorro and his alter-ego Don Diego de la Vega. Photos, video, and original artifacts from these few appearances are incredibly rare and are very desirable among fans of the television series and the Disney parks.
345. “Zorro at Disneyland” Flyer. (Disneyland, 1960) A very rare flyer promoting an appearance of Zorro at Disneyland during November 11-13 of 1960. This flyer features an image of Zorro on the front, and was used to promote the fifth and final major appearance of Guy William’s as Zorro at Disneyland. The flyer measures 5.5”x8.5” and is in very good condition with light wear. $100-$200
346. Guy Williams “Zorro” Disneyland Performance Costume. (Disneyland, c.1958-60) An original costume worn by Guy Williams during one of his Disneyland appearances as Zorro. Williams made several appearances at Disneyland as Zorro between 1958 and 1960, as such costumes for him were kept at the park. This costume includes the iconic cape, shirt, vest, pants, cumberbun, and mask of Williams’ Zorro character. Once Williams was no longer making appearances at the park, this very rare costume was given to the Disneyland Security Chief who had been tasked with escorting Williams during those early performances. This exceptionally rare costume is in good condition with some wear throughout from use and age, including a few tears primarily in the left sleeve, and scattered tiny holes along the shirt and cape. $3,000-$5,000
