The Art of Entertainment

Disneyland is often enjoyed for its exciting attractions, beautiful and diverse lands, and friendly atmosphere; however, these aspects would not exist without the effort of the park’s Imagineers and Cast Members. As such, some of the rarest and most desirable Disneyland collectibles are the items created for Imagineers and Cast Members, such as training manuals, documentation, awards, and pins. These artifacts provide a seldom-seen look into the creation and maintenance of the park and are unique time capsules of Disneyland history.

488. 1954 Disneyland Pitch Portfolio Recreation. (Disneyland, 2015) Created exclusively for D23 members at the Gold level during Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary, this stunning portfolio recreates an original Disneyland pitch portfolio from 1954. Included with this portfolio are 22 pages of reproduced concept artwork from such notable Imagineers as Harper Goff, Bruce Bushman, and Herb Ryman. The portfolio measures 9”x12” when closed, and the individual sheets measure approximately 8.5”x11.75”. The portfolio is in very good condition with minor wear, and the portfolio has been given an intentionally distressed look to appear aged. $100-$200

490. Disneyland Maintenance Cast Member Manual. (Disneyland, 1969) A very rare maintenance summary manual for Disneyland titled “The Maintenance of Magic in the Magic Kingdom”. This manual was created to help orient new maintenance employees with Disneyland’s history and procedures. The 37-page manual contains many great behind-the-scenes photos from the beginning days of the park and measures 11”x8.5”. The condition is very good with light wear. $300-$500

489. WED Imagineering “Disneyland Dictionary” & Letter. (Disneyland, 1968) An original bound “Disneyland Dictionary” booklet that was created by WED Imagineering and Disneyland’s Publicity Department. The book is described as being created “for quick-reference purposes” and that “items are listed alphabetically under the headings of major Disneyland divisions”. The booklet comes with an Inter-Office Communication from Bob Jackson to Jack Ferges that discusses these “Disneyland Dictionary” booklets and encourages the employees of WED to keep them updated with new changes that occur. With the Inter-Office Communication is also one of Jack’s pay stubs from WED. The booklet measures 11.25”x9” and is in good condition with some discoloration to the cover and a broken clasp in the spine. $200-$400

491. “The Disneyland Look” Grooming Policy Guide. (Disneyland, 1971) A rare internal booklet for Supervisors and Administration personnel titled “The Disneyland Look”, that provides a summary of the park’s expected appearance and grooming guidelines as well as instructions on how to reprimand incorrect practices. Unlike the more commonly seen booklets given to cast members, this policy guide is 3-hole punched and held together with brass brads. Included within are photos and descriptions of appropriate hair length and styles, as well as policies on shoes, jewelry, glasses, hats, and more. Measuring 11”x8.5”, the guide is in good condition overall with some yellowing and wear to the cover from use. $200-$300
