Operations The Operations program focuses on the design and management of the processes by which products are manufactured and services are delivered to customers throughout the world. The Operations faculty have won international recognition for their research, teaching and publications, and have made significant contributions to knowledge about time-based competition, manufacturing cells, quality management, learning processes, manufacturing strategy and efficient implementation of optimization models for supply chains and telecommunication networks. Entrepreneurship The governor of Tennessee tapped

Vanderbilt Owen professor Michael Burcham to lead Startup Tennessee, a new public-private partnership that will help create new ventures and jobs in the state. The organization connects entrepreneurs with expert advice, support services and other resources, including capital through a network of investors.

Most business schools end with the business plan, but our Entrepreneurship program goes beyond the plan to results. Our small size and closeknit environment allow us to provide a personal touch, tailoring a program to your needs and connecting you with the resources to help you launch or grow a successful company. Be inspired at our intimate “Lunch with an Entrepreneur” events, or pursue one of the multiple funding opportunities to help students start businesses while in school (our programs provide $185,000 a year in student funding). Hiroshi Hyakumoto has surfed more than a dozen famous spots, from Asia to the U.S. and South America. The Hiroshima native had served as a sales representative for Pfizer Japan before pursuing an MBA, with sponsorship from his company. “I wanted to create an impact not only at Pfizer but in Japan and around the world,” he says. Hiroshi concluded that Owen offered a strong health care business program and an intimate community. “As an international student, I was worried about being isolated,” he says, “but the community here really allowed me to participate and feel part of the group…”

We are committed to helping you afford the program by offering a generous number of scholarships. The Owen School awarded $2.9 million in scholarships to the Class of 2013. The average scholarship award for recent recipients was approximately half of tuition. Many scholarships are awarded from our general scholarship fund; listed below are some unique awards available for full-time MBA students.

How Decisions Are Made When making scholarship award decisions, we use a comprehensive approach to assess your achievements and potential for career excellence.

We look at your entire application as a whole. Candidates are automatically considered for most scholarships.

There are two diversity scholarships that require an essay to be considered.

Award decisions are made on a rolling basis, so we recommend that you submit your application by the January 16 deadline for priority consideration.

Dean’s Scholar Award The Dean’s Scholar Award is the highest honor for incoming students.
