Vanderbilt MAcc Assurance provides talented, well-rounded college graduates with the managerial perspective, leadership and communication skills and accounting expertise needed to launch a career as an associate with one of the leading global public accounting firms—Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC. Graduates begin their careers within the audit and assurance lines of these firms and quickly become fluent in the “language of business” and business processes. While some choose to stay with these firms for an entire career, most choose to join the client side, well equipped to take on roles as controllers or CFOs of public and private companies.

AUDIT AND ASSURANCE. The science (and art) of providing expert and independent assessments that support smart business decisions.

The goal of an audit is to assure investors, regulators, bankers and others that a company’s balance sheet, cash flows and profit and loss statements deliver a reasonable depiction of its financial health.

Most audits handled by large public accounting firms are extended engagements in which a team of associates takes a deep dive into the finances and processes of an organization. The goal is to “follow the money.” Where does it come from? Where does it go? How is it used? What processes are used to ensure the accuracy and veracity of these transactions?

It’s easy to see that audit and assurance associates have a front row seat to view the inner workings of complex organizations. This comprehensive perspective serves as a launchpad for a rewarding career in business.

Vanderbilt’s MAcc Assurance program prepares you to be successful as an audit and assurance associate within a Big Four firm. Professional development. Vanderbilt’s MAcc Assurance program includes professional development programming that will help you as you interact with firm representatives and prepare for a successful career. You will gain insights into your strengths, challenges and personal motivators and learn how they impact your working relationships with others. Along with your classmates, you will work with a professional executive coach who will help you turn these insights into strategies for a lifetime of personal and professional growth.

Paid Internships. You’ll have an unparalleled opportunity for a 10-week, paid internship with one of our partner firms. This internship allows you to round out your education with real-world experience and gives you a chance to see what life is like as an audit and assurance professional within a Big Four firm. At the same time, it allows the firm to evaluate you. It’s a fact: Successful internships lead to full-time job offers.

Exam preparation. Vanderbilt’s program gives you an edge when sitting for licensing and credentialing exams. In the summer after graduation, you will participate in the Becker Review course and sit for all four sections of the CPA exam. It’s no wonder that Vanderbilt MAcc students consistently achieve among the highest—if not the highest—exam pass rates in the country.
