Jones Group, referring to the unmistakable air of distinction radiated by the stately residence. And yet, this Utopian setting provides an ever-so-subtle level of opulence; it maintains a luxurious yet true home setting devoid of pretence. “We put in all the bells and whistles to create something unique that’s user-friendly, but with a good flow consistent throughout,” he says. Amanda Jones, T. Jones Group director, adds, “Cameron’s mind is always picking up inspiration from everywhere we go, especially when we travel. I think this home is an accumulation of life and experiences—things that we’ve seen over the years and all the luxury and architecture that has inspired us.” It’s inspiring to be sure: replete with marble floors throughout, a grand entranceway staircase, a beautifully and fully-appointed kitchen space with attached wok kitchen, and a spectacular and inviting great room, which connects to the multiple outdoor-living spaces and the kitchen with an omnipresent sense of flow. It all culminates in a truly spectacular structure. Cameron is no stranger to magnificent homes, having learned design from the best mentors possible.

He built his first home from scratch with his father when he got married to my mother, Dixie.”

He adds: “My father purchased his first lot at the young age of 16,
when all of his friends were buying cars. He was always very business
savvy and he continues to be a well-respected real estate expert. He
got really inspired about building these masterpieces from the ground up, and then basically saw the benefits and advantages of building and
reselling. So he developed the business and started doing custom and
Cameron notes that he became involved in the business at a young age.
“I was always with my parents, selecting materials and going to job
sites. I found it so fascinating that my father was building these homes
from nothing,” he recalls. “When I was old enough to pick up tools, I wanted to work on the job sites and learn the trades firsthand. So I not
only learned design but physically worked with all the trades, learning
them individually over many years. I’m very capable of doing it all my-
self and very knowledgeable on how things get put together. That isn’t
always the case with a builder, so it’s a huge benefit. It results in better
communication and direction with all the trades, but also impacts how
the project comes together within all the details at hand.”
Cameron’s flair for design has rubbed off on Amanda in their shared life together as they collectively expand the brand. “We’ve been together 10 years and he’s certainly taught me a lot,” she

Simply stated, the Sublime philosophy adheres to the principle of
“form follows function.” Soroka maintains that design process is
always influenced from personal history. In her professional cap-
acity, Soroka strives to incorporate both her own and her client’s
ideals, and thus creating a setting that is awe-inspiring to all in-
volved on a personal level.
“My signature style is modern west coast with an elegant traditional twist,” she says, adding, “I’m not limited to one style and have composed various styles for a variety of projects and clients. My inspiration is derived from culture, travel and quality of life to create harmony and overall balance. I believe people are a product of their environment. My design philosophy is simply stated in my company’s name, Sublime—something truly divine, transcendent and stately.” All of this is clearly on display within Elements Estate.

Tyrone Brett of Canadian manufacturer Liquid Systems outfitted the vibrant bar area and adjoining walk-in wine fridge on the lower level. “To reflect the high quality of the project, premium best-in-class wine racks from Liquid Systems in Squamish were chosen,” he says. “Anodized gold was selected to complement the mirrored-like background, the darker marble flooring and gold highlights in the bar area. All Liquid Systems racks are unique and this valuable collection is securely held in place by custom-length aluminum mounting posts and double-bottle holders, featuring silicon liners that limit the bottles from slipping.” Norwood Windows similarly praises its relationship with T. Jones Group in outfitting Elements Estate. “Dealing with T. Jones Group has always been about exceeding customer expectations, offering new ideas and designs that push the building envelope,” says Steve Thorn. “This house shows the forethought of the builder’s ideas and how to achieve this from paper to reality. Similar to any luxury home, art plays a vital role in the aesthetic within Elements Estate. “I work with my clients closely to create custom art, informed by the space it is commissioned for,” says artist Ronan Doyle. “I work from the ground up with design concepts to create paintings that tie in and enhance overall design.”

With such a vast outdoor space to work with, one can only imagine the infinite possibilities. West Coast Rock and Waterfall specializes in maximizing design potential and the creation of outdoor spaces. “The first construction site I worked on was a large, custom home build with T. Jones Group in Shaughnessy,” says Tyler Palmer. “We constructed a waterfall and stream in the backyard, creating a unique and natural element to the outdoor space. I was in awe of the scale of the build and the extreme attention to detail by Trevor and Cameron Jones. When I started West Coast Rock and Waterfall in 2007, my first contract was with them. I always looked forward to their projects as they allowed me to be creative and innovative, and encouraged me to design outside of the box.” He adds: “For Elements Estate, Cameron told me he wanted to do something really special. When I saw the site plans, I immediately asked if I could change the layout of the stairs and waterfalls, so as to take advantage of viewing the water feature from the pool room and expansive entertaining space. We also configured the stair entry to make moving between the multiple outdoor living areas flow better. Another stand-out is the underwater fire feature. I haven’t seen this on any other project and we were driven to make this happen knowing it would be unique.” In 2019, Palmer became a full-time member at T. Jones Group as Director of Operations. “Cameron, Amanda and I share the same vision,” he says, adding, “I look forward to bringing future projects to fruition, while continuing to set the bar higher.”

F I RE, WATER A ND SOU ND To say this house is spectacular is an understatement. From the main floor kitchen area and great room, you step into a lush, privately landscaped outdoor area—something akin to entering a veritable oasis. Here, we see four impressive water features and multiple fire features—including two that ignite underwater—alongside multi-zoned lounge areas and built-in hot tub. All this serenity lies amid a cleverly concealed garden sound system with two in-ground buried sub-woofers. Sound throughout Elements Estate is of the highest calibre and clarity, complete with separate zone access, and all digitally-controlled and powered by Crestron, a fully-integrated automation smart-home system, which gives the user control of every aspect of the property via a single network that can be accessed remotely from anywhere in the world. “The interior has 48 speakers which include four in-wall sub-woofers, while the exterior has 12 outdoor speakers and the Infinity Edge eight-person hot tub has four additional speakers with two built-in subs,” says Cameron. “The garden has two sets of speakers and in-ground subs, one set by the fireplace and another by the firepit deck, which is located behind the hot tub.” The exterior sound specifications were intended for high-quality sound, which can be enjoyed at a lower volume, respecting the neighbours while entertaining. This is all augmented by the abundance of smart-home technology, including extremely high-tech security features and cameras, which control everything from climate settings to water elements,

It’s a very comfortable home, yet with a luxurious feel.” As high-quality builder will concede, they constantly swing for the fences in design, envisioning truly unique creations each and every time out, never relying on past accomplishments and constantly raising the bar for excellence. As Cameron explains, “I’ve had people come into our homes before and say that they want to do exactly ‘this,’ and I just say, ‘You can’t.’ You need to modify the design and make it your own, keeping the technical advancements and innovations in mind to stay ahead of the trends. Each house is treated like an original piece of art, which can never be duplicated.” “New ideas, being creative and innovative is what drives you and makes it enjoyable. It constantly flows and changes and you need to be ahead of competitors. I think there are definitely some elements and designs that we’ve done that work and get very positive comments, so we try to integrate them into some of our projects, for sure,” says Amanda. “But as Cameron always says, each house is a learning process and you learn what works and what doesn’t work and take with you what you choose. Over the years a lot of things have evolved and some things have stayed.”

The company’s Family Foundation provided building expertise at St. Francis University in Tanzania, creating Faustina, a four-storey structure housing over 340 female students. T. Jones donated the funds to make this residence a reality and a safe and secure environment for students, allowing them to live on campus.

It has also won accolades on the international stage at the America’s Property Awards, which honour architecture, development, design and real estate worldwide. In fact, as Elements Estate was declared the winner of the Five Star Best Residential Property, Best Kitchen Design and Best Residential Interior Design Private Residence at the Canadian level of the international property awards. The accolades may continue to roll in as Five Star winners are further adjudicated to decide which property goes forward to compete for best in their region, in this case the Americas, including Canada, the Caribbean, Central and South America and the US. That in turn could lead to additional acclaim for the whole of the Americas, and then globally. And if that should happen, Cameron says, “It would be an absolute honour and pivotal point to be recognized internationally. A true testament to what T. Jones has been cultivating all these years. A real milestone.”

Indulge asked Geèle a few questions: Indulge: How would you describe your personal interior design style? Geèle Soroka: My signature style is modern west coast contemporary with an elegant traditional twist. However, I am not limited to one style. I believe people are a product of their environment and I help create designs that have beautiful balance, harmony and flow. I: What direction do you feel design is moving towards in a general sense? GS: There are no longer any limits and we are not reflecting back on a single era for just one style. It is now about mixing different styles and having the ability to do that without criticism. The key is to harmonize and balance the space. I: What products could you not live without when designing? GS: Feature focal points: light fixtures, custom art, paint and wallpaper. I: Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future: GS: 1. Who—understand the client and the feelings and emotions desired within the space, and think about the aesthetically pleasing perspective. 2. Concept—figure out any problems and parameters, such as limited space and time, etc. 3. Space planning—examine function, flow and accessibility for all, and consider how the users will enjoy the area. This is when to examine scale and define use of the space. 4. Lighting—there are three key aspects to lighting. There is general lighting for overall illumination, such as pathways; ambient lighting that conducts mood of the space with different colours and temperatures; and task lighting for something specific, such as accent walls or under-cabinet areas for cooking. 5. Materials/application—fine-tune and adapt the environment for the purpose and function, considering durability, allergies, traction and general response of the client. Here is where the project starts to develop its own essence of creation. This is where you have an opportunity to play with colour, texture, and patterns. I: If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to product design, what would it be? GS: Size and scale are everything; know your sizes but understand the scale that works for the space/client and have fun!

t’s best to throw away the typical questions about specs and cost per square foot when you’re speaking with Kaz Noori and Sharon Kaby about their philosophy on ultra-luxury home building.
For the developer and his design partner, the most important aspect of the custom homes they build is the “wow” factor. And that is simply unquantifiable. Kaz, the founder and visionary behind Sea Rock Developments, along with Sharon, have made a name for themselves in international circles with their lavish one-of-a-kind homes in the White Rock and South Surrey area. It’s a region they feel is ripe with both opportunity and natural beauty. “We’re all about the lifestyle here—the ocean and beaches, the parks and wide-open spaces,” Sharon says. “That’s why we design and build homes here; we fell in love with all it has to offer. We call it home.” The scenic landscapes certainly add to the WOW factor. Kaz and Sharon elevate them by integrating natural elements into their designs.

“We strive to create a harmonious balance of flow and function that builds on what the location already offers and augments it with timeless artistic application,” Sharon says. But they don’t equate their artistic vision to size or price tag. It’s about an organic symmetry of delightful custom features, intuitive functionality and unparalleled finishings inspired by art and nature, and unmatched anywhere else... in this part of the world, anyway. “There’s nothing that’s not possible,” Kaz says. Their “sky’s-the-limit” approach to building and design has put them in a unique position to serve a select clientele. “Some of our clients are high-profile people with homes around the world,” Kaz says. “They want their estate here to be a showpiece they can be proud of, especially when entertaining guests.”
FROM SHOWBIZ TO SHOWPIECES Originally in the entertainment business, Kaz changed direction to set his artistic vision in a solid foundation of quality home construction in a region he cherishes. Every home Kaz and Sharon design is tailored to creating an experience that matches the client. They don’t pay much heed to trends, instead preferring long-lasting palettes and materials. “We really try to create art,” Kaz says. “I turn the whole build into a set. Our whole team has a love for creating something that exceeds everyone’s expectations. What we’re trying to do is to push the envelope.” For a current project located in South Surrey, for example, Kaz and Sharon have taken inspiration from the natural surroundings to create a resort-like feeling throughout the property. But it’s not at all about impressing with stats or scale. For them, it’s all about the creative journey that starts by getting to know every detail of a client’s needs and ends in a home that surprises, delights and truly wows everyone who experiences it.

INSPIRATION FROM ABROAD Generating creative ideas that match their clients’ tastes and functional needs usually starts abroad. “We will visit our clients in their homes,” Kaz says, adding that they also take their clients travelling with them to get a sense of what inspires them. Their favourite destinations for inspiration are Italy, France, Spain and New York, where timeless art and culture can be found around every corner, and where structures are built to stand the test of time. Their penchant for working with natural materials arises from their desire for both quality and longevity. And carefully selected finishes are chosen for their ability to bring the outdoors inside. “We use a variety of woods, metals and natural stone because they age beautifully,” Sharon says. Despite their high-profile clientele, or perhaps because of it, Kaz and Sharon themselves keep a low profile on their work, taking on only a few projects at a time, always through referrals. Their relationships with their clients run deep, and the trust that results affords them the creative freedom to design homes that are truly incomparable. “Our clients will say ‘surprise us,’” Kaz says, “so when you see their reaction to the final product, it’s very rewarding.”

There is no one in Vancouver’s luxury piano field who doesn’t know the legendary Renay Zhang. She’s not a musician nor a music teacher (although, she used to be); she is a piano sales consultant for Tom Lee Music. Renay continues to win the outstanding achievement award for best piano sales in the world from Steinway & Sons, serving thousands of families with her musical literacy and piano knowledge. Her success comes from her firm belief in the brand, which equals perfection, heritage and education. She immigrated from Qingdao, Shandong province of China 13 years ago. Some people call her the “Queen of Steinway” for her amazing achievement, but she says, “I much prefer people recognize me as a happy coach.” Before becoming a piano sales consultant, she was a host in a children’s television show, a homemaker and a professional pop singer.
