Since 2015, NuRoof & Construction has been more than just a roofing company in Tulsa—it’s been a family-run operation with deep local roots and a big heart for its community. Cass Benner, the owner and operator, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for quality craftsmanship to the business. “Our primary focus is roofing, residential and commercial, but our scope of work is far beyond that,” Cass shared, emphasizing the company’s versatility.
Cass’s background in construction spans a wide range of expertise, including roofing, framing, concrete work, and even building pole barns. This hands-on experience has shaped NuRoof’s ability to tackle diverse projects. “We can do anything from concrete work to adding on decks and more,” Cass said. NuRoof Advantage: Services
NuRoof specializes in new construction and reroofs, but they also handle repairs, which is vital in storm-prone Oklahoma. With a team that stays current on industry innovations through ongoing training, customers can trust that they’re getting top-tier service. “It’s always good to once a year have a professional inspection on your roof, especially after any major storm,” Cass advised. To make that easier, NuRoof offers free inspections.
NuRoof Advantage: Licensing
One of the company’s proudest achievements is earning their commercial license. “We’re particularly excited about achieving our commercial license,” Cass said. This milestone allows NuRoof to better serve Tulsa’s business community, helping protect valuable assets with reliable roofing solutions.
Licensed not just in Oklahoma but also in Arkansas and Kansas, NuRoof is expanding its reach while staying committed to its local values. “We can work throughout Oklahoma,” Cass noted.
NuRoof Advantage: Communication
For NuRoof, the customer experience is just as important as the work itself. “In the construction environment, there can often be a huge lack of communication,” Cass acknowledged. To address this, NuRoof assigns a project manager to all jobs, ensuring clear and constant communication between the customer and the office.
This hands-on approach extends to navigating the oftendaunting insurance claims process. After a free inspection, NuRoof determines if storm damage warrants a claim and guides customers
step-by-step. For those worried about costs, financing options are available, recognizing that not everyone can afford a lump-sum payment for repairs or replacements.
NuRoof Advantage: Warranty
NuRoof backs its full roof replacements with a five-year workmanship warranty, along with manufacturer warranties on shingles. “We treat every customer as if their home is our own,” Cass said. It’s this personal touch that has earned the company the trust of over 2,600 customers in Tulsa alone.
Whether it’s a quick repair or a full-scale commercial project, their team is ready to provide hassle-free, high-quality service.
As Oklahoma faces unpredictable weather, NuRoof’s commitment to its customers’ homes and businesses stands strong.
For free inspections and trustworthy service from a company that treats you like family, NuRoof & Construction is just a call away.

Nestled in the heart of the Lilac District in downtown Claremore, Angel’s Wigs is a unique boutique that offers more than just wigs, it provides a welcoming space for individuals experiencing hair loss while also catering to fashion enthusiasts who love experimenting with their style. Whether you are on a journey of healing or simply exploring new looks, Angel’s Wigs is here for you.
Angel’s Wigs is driven by a dual mission: to support those suffering from hair loss and to celebrate the joy wigs can bring to anyone’s wardrobe. “We’re here to help people who suffer from hair loss, and then there is the fashion side for people who just love to wear wigs,” shares the founder, Carol Thibodeau. From individuals facing alopecia or undergoing chemotherapy to fashion-forward clients looking to switch up their style, Angel’s Wigs embraces all. Those who need a wig due to a health issue may complete an application on www.angelswigsandmore.com.
Carol’s own experience with alopecia has deeply influenced her approach. “I know what it feels like to have that hair loss, and I’ve embraced it. Now, I have fun with my wigs,” she says. This personal touch creates a compassionate environment where every client feels understood and supported.
One of the most heartwarming aspects of Angel’s Wigs is its sense of community. The boutique offers wig parties, where friends and family can come together to support a loved one in need. These events allow guests to try on different wigs, with a percentage of purchases going towards the host’s wig. It’s a fun, engaging way to contribute to someone’s journey while exploring the wide range of wigs available. For more information or to book your wig party, visit www.angelswigsandmore.com.
Angel’s Wigs accepts donated wigs, refurbishing them for those in need. This initiative ensures that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, can access high-quality wigs.
The team at Angel’s Wigs understands the emotional journey
that often accompanies hair loss. Appointments are restful and comforting, with private spaces available for those who need them. “A lot of times people don’t come in on their own. They have a support group that comes with them, and we try to create a welcoming environment,” says Carol.
“We’ve been doing a lot of renovations and remodeling and we just want people to feel comfortable, welcome, and inclusive, when they come in. They can be insecure about the way they look, and through empathy and reassurance, we support them and share our own experiences,” store manager, Summer Alwedyani, adds.
Walk-ins are also welcome, fostering spontaneous connections and support. Carol recalls a touching moment when two women, both dealing with hair loss, met for the first time in the store and formed an instant bond.
What Kind of Wigs Are Available at Angel’s Wigs?
Angel’s Wigs offers a wide variety of products, including toppers, ponytails, halos, and full wigs. Customers can try on as many wigs as they like without feeling rushed. The boutique also provides wig care services such as washing, cutting, and restoration.

Akitchen remodel is one of the most exciting yet challenging home improvement projects. It’s a chance to create a space that reflects your style while enhancing functionality and home value. To help guide homeowners through the process, experts at Premium Cabinets in Tulsa, led by owners Gary Gullic and Austin Gullic, gather their top remodeling tips.
If you’re looking to maximize impact without breaking the bank, focus on creating open spaces. “The number one thing home buyers want is open spaces,” says Gary Gullic. Simple changes like removing a wall or adding an island can transform the layout. Convenience-focused updates—such as slow-close hinges, pull-out drawers for appliances, and well-organized storage—can also make a big difference. As more homeowners choose to remodel instead of move, these cost-effective upgrades ensure your kitchen remains functional and appealing.
A typical kitchen remodel costs around 10% of a home’s value, covering essentials like cabinetry, countertops, flooring, backsplash, fixtures, and appliances. To get the most value, homeowners should first identify their kitchen’s major frustrations. “People spend more time in the kitchen than anywhere else,” notes Gary. Before diving into a remodel, consider how long you plan to stay in your home and what improvements will enhance your daily life. Austin Gullic
reminds homeowners to “remember why you started the project.”
Homeowners looking for a modern and timeless look are gravitating towards natural wood tones like white oak, clear maple, and rustic maple. Greens also remain a popular choice, adding warmth and sophistication. For a sleek, contemporary aesthetic, european frameless flat panel cabinetry is gaining traction, inspired by modern West Coast designs.
When it comes to materials, quality matters. “Cabinets are high-end furniture and a permanent feature in your home,” explains Gary. Homeowners are opting for dovetail drawers, thick plywood shelving, and factory-finished paint for durability and style. Pairing high-quality cabinets with stone countertops and stylish backsplashes creates a polished and long-lasting result.
Premium Cabinets offers 3D design services to help homeowners see their dream kitchen before making commitments. “We can take the dimensions of your space and offer a new perspective on a room you’ve lived in for so long,” says Gary. Customers are actively involved in the rendering process, ensuring the final design meets their expectations.
Preparation is key to a smooth remodeling process. “When clients have their materials chosen and ready, we can complete a remodel in two to three weeks from the day of deconstruction to installation,” says Gary. To avoid common pitfalls, homeowners should prioritize
#1 Cabinet selection
#2 Countertops
#3 Flooring
#4 Back-Splashes
#5 Fixtures and appliances
Getting multiple contractor bids ensures fair pricing and quality work.
Premium Cabinets provides a free design consultation and a remodeling guide to help homeowners navigate the process. Get ready for a day filled with history, tradition, and fun! The Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club is bringing its muchloved Old-Fashioned Picnic and Cultural Hog Fry to a brand-new venue this year. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 17, 2025, as the festivities unfold at Will Rogers Stampede Park near Claremore Lake.
Annual Event to be Held May 17
With free admission and a schedule packed with activities, this annual event welcomes families, history buffs, and community members alike to experience the rich Cherokee heritage that the Pocahontas Club has proudly preserved since 1899.
The day kicks off at 9 a.m., with gates opening to a lineup of traditional Native games that provide both entertainment and a glimpse into Cherokee history. Demonstrations begin at 10 a.m., showcasing Cherokee marbles, corn stalk shoots, hatchet throwing, and blowgun accuracy. This event allows both young and old
attendees an opportunity to experience some of the most traditional games played by the Cherokee over hundreds of years. The games have long been important component for young Cherokees learning the ways of community interaction.
Traditional Cherokee Cuisine
No Cherokee celebration is complete without authentic traditional cuisine. Guests can enjoy an on-site hog fry served alongside beans, fry bread, and a delicious helping of strawberry shortcake for dessert. While admission is free, there will be a fee of $10.00 per plate for the traditional hog fry meal and a $5.00 fee for the fresh strawberry shortcake.
Visitors can explore a vibrant marketplace of Cherokee vendors, offering handcrafted goods, jewelry, and cultural keepsakes. Adding to the excitement, the event will welcome Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr. as a special guest, emphasizing the event’s significance in celebrating tribal heritage.
This year marks an exciting collaboration between the Pocahontas Club, the City of Claremore, and the PRCA Rodeo. Though not officially part of the rodeo, the picnic serves as a perfect kickoff to the PRCA action at Stampede Park, bringing even more visitors and enthusiasm to the venue.
Since its inception in 1899, the Pocahontas Club’s picnic has grown, yet its core mission remains unchanged—preserving Cherokee traditions while fostering a strong sense of community. “It’s amazing to think back on how it’s changed, but what hasn’t changed is the theme of unity in our community,” said Debra West, administrator of the Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club.
So grab your lawn chairs, bring your family, and join them for a day of history, culture, and good old-fashioned fun!

The Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo promises excitement for the entire family including events like bull riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, and must see performances.
BY AARIKA COPELAND
Get ready, Claremore! The much anticipated 79th annual award winning Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo is right around the corner, and this year’s event promises to be better than ever. With thrilling competitions, an exciting new specialty act, and family-friendly entertainment, the rodeo remains a staple of Claremore’s rich heritage and a must-attend event for locals and visitors alike.
One of the standout additions to this year’s rodeo is the Bobby Kerr Mustang Act. “We have a new specialty act this year,” said event organizer, Erin Pegorsch. “It is Bobby Kerr and his Mustang Act.” Kerr is known for his incredible horsemanship and unique performances, making this an act rodeo fans won’t want to miss.
Another exciting change is the steer roping competition, which has been moved to Thursday night in the main arena instead of its previous Saturday morning and afternoon slot. This adjustment ensures that fans see this thrilling event under the arena lights.
This year’s rodeo is partnering with the Frontier Rodeo Company, a 10-time Stock Contractor of the Year. “For the 10th year in a row, they’re the best stock contractor out there,” said Pegorsch. “So we’re glad to be bringing them into the rodeo this year.” This change is expected to bring top-tier livestock and even more exciting action to the arena.
The Claremore Rodeo is a huge economic driver for the town. “It brings people from all over the state and the country into our medium-sized rodeo in Claremore, Oklahoma,” she shared. “It fills the local hotels, and there are events throughout town the entire week leading up to it.”
The rodeo has been a cherished Claremore tradition for nearly eight decades. “This is our 79th year. Next year coincides with the 100th year of Route 66, as it’s our 80th year, and one of our major sponsors, RCB Bank, has its 90th year. So it’ll be a fun celebration of 80, 90, and 100 all at once.”
To keep the next generation engaged in the rodeo, organizers are launching Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 10th. “We will have a Rodeo 101 class hosted by PRCA organizers,” she said. “They will teach our young community about rodeo, show them different techniques, and even provide practice equipment for roping and bull riding.”
The day will also feature a Mutton Bustin’ Qualifier, where junior riders can compete to earn a spot in the pre-rodeo entertainment. And in honor of Mother’s Day weekend, moms can enjoy MOM-mosas at the event.
In addition, a small petting zoo will be set up, and local law enforcement will bring out fire trucks, police cars, and sheriff’s units for kids to explore. “We try to make it truly a full family fun day out at the arena. People can learn more about rodeos, get more comfortable with the arena, and prepare for upcoming performances on Memorial Day weekend.”
For those new to the rodeo experience, organizers recommend arriving early to secure good seats. “Seats aren’t saved,” said Pegorsch. “You’ve got to come early.” Parking will be available at Claremore High School and Robson Performing Arts Center, with shuttles transporting guests to the arena.
Guests can also look forward to a variety of food vendors and concessions. “Our stands accept both cash and card,” she said, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees.
Each night of the rodeo will feature specialty acts, with announcer Scott Grover and barrel man and clown Dusty Myers keeping the energy high. A highlight of the weekend will be the Broken Spokes Clydesdales from Winfield, Kansas. “They’ll be part of our show, and they’ll be out front as people arrive, so you can take pictures with these beautiful, enormous Clydesdale horses.”
The Sunday night performance will honor veterans, with special tributes planned.
Leading up to the main event, Claremore will host its firstever Cowboy Trade Day on Saturday, May 3rd, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Stampede Arena. Featuring 60 Western trade vendors, live entertainment, and food, the free event is the perfect way to get into the rodeo spirit.
With so much planned, the 79th annual Claremore Rodeo is shaping up to be an unforgettable event. Whether you’re here for the thrilling competitions, the specialty acts, or the family fun, one thing is for sure—this rodeo is a celebration of Claremore’s heritage and community spirit. Don’t miss out on all the action under the arena lights!

For home improvements, few projects make as significant an impact as replacing your driveway. Not only does it enhance your home’s curb appeal, but it also adds value and safety to your property. Kalan Paul, owner of LCI Concrete, a trusted name in the community with 19 years of experience and over 1,300 completed driveway projects, answers some of the most common questions homeowners have about upgrading their driveways.
How Long Does It Take to Replace a Driveway?
Time is often the first concern when planning any home improvement project. The good news? LCI Concrete has efficiency down to a science.
“On an average driveway, our turnaround time is one day,” said Paul.
But when can you use your brand-new driveway?
“You can safely walk on it the next morning.” However, LCI recommends waiting three days before driving on it, ensuring optimal strength and durability.
Plus, Kalan handles every estimate, providing homeowners with a written quote within one to two days after his visit.
How Much Does a New Driveway Cost?
Cost transparency is a big deal for homeowners, and LCI Concrete takes that seriously.
“What we quote is exactly what you’ll pay,” Paul assured. “Unless a customer asks for additional work, the price doesn’t change.”
There’s also no deposit required—LCI only collects payment after the project completion and the customer is happy. This customer-first approach makes the process smooth and stress-free.
What Are My Design Options?
Driveways don’t have to be dull or cookie-cutter. LCI Concrete offers custom designs to suit every style.
“We can customize a driveway in any shape, form, or fashion,” Paul explained. From scoring cuts to unique patterns, the possibilities are endless. One standout project? A double driveway weaving up a hillside, blending functionality with stunning design.
This level of customization allows homeowners to turn a basic driveway into a feature that complements their home’s architecture.
How Does a New Driveway Add Value to My Home?
A driveway isn’t just a path to your garage—it’s a first impression.
“Replacing the driveway on an average house can make it look 10 years newer,” he said. A smooth, well-designed driveway boosts curb appeal, which can attract potential buyers and even increase your home’s market price.
Plus, a new driveway improves safety by eliminating cracks and trip hazards—a win-win for homeowners and their guests.
Paul offers some solid advice for homeowners considering a driveway replacement:
• Experience Matters: Ask how long they’ve been in business and how many projects they’ve completed. LCI boasts 19 years in business and over 1,300 driveway replacements.
• Check for Insurance: Ensure your contractor is fully insured to protect your investment.
• Look for Reviews: Positive customer feedback speaks volumes.
• Construction Quality: Always use rebar reinforcement throughout the concrete, which can, “add up to 20 years to the life of your project”.
These steps ensure you’re hiring a contractor who values quality and customer satisfaction.
Why Choose LCI Concrete?
LCI Concrete isn’t just another contractor—they’re a part of the local community. Kalan Paul, a 30+ year resident, has been married for 24 years and is a proud father of four. His dedication to his craft and community shows in every project.
LCI Concrete offers driveways built to last a lifetime, focusing strongly on both functionality and longevity. Backed by over 70 years of combined team experience, they bring expert craftsmanship to every project. Homeowners can also feel confident in their work by viewing over 100 past project addresses available for reference.

David’s journey began at his father’s company, Black Hat, where he honed his craft and gained invaluable insights into the business. Today, Better Air Duct Cleaning delivers exceptional services to Broken Arrow and surrounding communities.
Clean Air Ducts Ensure HVAC Efficiency and Air Quality
“For efficiency, you want the same amount of air going into your system to come out,” David explained. Any blockage in the system, whether it’s a dirty filter or an obstructed duct, compromises this efficiency. Many homeowners overlook the importance of regularly changing air filters. When filters become ‘face loaded’ with dust, the efficiency of the system reduces making, making it harder to cool or heat a home properly.
David has seen it all when it comes to airflow obstructions. “Sometimes we find objects like toys or cans inside the ducts. These blockages create a dam effect, reducing airflow and lowering air quality in the home.”
What sets Better Air Duct Cleaning apart is David’s commitment to innovation. “I’ve developed my tools based on what I’ve learned over 30 years in this industry. These custommade tools, designed specifically for the Tulsa Metro area, allow me to deliver thorough and high-quality service to my customers.”
With experience working on various duct designs—from square and round ducting to vents in floors, ceilings, walls, basements, and crawlspaces—David assures homeowners that no system is too complex for him. “I haven’t come across a design I haven’t worked on.”
The demand for air duct cleaning has grown significantly over the years. “When my dad started in 1983, air duct cleaning was considered a luxury. Today, people are more aware of the health benefits, especially with reducing allergens,” Harris said. Better Air Duct Cleaning provides not only cleaner air but also peace of mind. “We help eliminate potential allergens, making homes healthier for families.” To make their services even more accessible, they offer free phone estimates with flat-rate pricing, ensuring no hidden costs. For larger homes, in-person estimates are also available for free.
Minimizing Fire Hazards: The Importance of Dryer Vent Cleaning
Beyond HVAC systems, Better Air Duct Cleaning also emphasizes the importance of dryer vent maintenance. Lint buildup in dryer vents poses a significant fire hazard. “If your dryer takes over an hour to dry a load, or if the back draft flap on the outside isn’t lifting, it’s time to get your vent checked,” David advised.
With Better Air Duct Cleaning, homeowners in Broken Arrow can trust their indoor air is clean, their HVAC systems are efficient, and their homes are safer from fire hazards. Keep your air flowing and your family breathing easy with Better Air Duct Cleaning.

Claremore, Oklahoma, is gearing up for an exciting new tradition as the Lilac Festival prepares to take over historic downtown! From June 26 to 28, the Lilac Festival will immerse visitors in the city’s rich cultural heritage, blending native and settler traditions in a vibrant celebration filled with music, food, art, and family-friendly activities. Susan Gebhart, Committee Chairperson, couldn’t be more excited about the event’s debut. “This festival is all about honoring Claremore’s past while celebrating the growth and revitalization of the Lilac District,” she shared. The festival’s name itself pays tribute to Claremore native and Cherokee playwright Lynn Riggs, whose play “Green Grow the Lilacs” inspired the world-famous musical “Oklahoma!”. Gebhart added, “Tying together the roots of Claremore’s settlers and Cherokee influences makes for something truly special”.
The Lilac Festival Features Music, Arts, Food Trucks, and Sweets
The festival kicks off on Thursday, June 26, during downtown’s popular Food Truck Thursday from 6-9 PM. Strolling through the closed-off streets of the Lilac District, attendees will find businesses showcasing special lilac-inspired products, and a variety of Cherokee Artisan vendor booths. Monica Champ, a registered artist with the Cherokee Nation is recruiting fellow Cherokee artists to display and sell their work, ensuring a rich and authentic cultural representation. While enjoying lively music and local flavors attendees will enjoy seeing a ribbon skirt display and fashion show at 320 on Main,
spotlighting the intricate textile artistry of Native American culture.
Friday night (tentatively 6-9 PM) is all about music, square dancing and sweets, as a lively Street Dance and Pie Auction take center stage. Festival-goers can learn how to square dance in a setting reminiscent of the “Oklahoma!” musical while bidding on homemade pies and sweets. It’s the perfect way to experience a little nostalgia while making new memories.
The Lilac Festival Has Something For All Ages and Interests
Saturday morning sees a Main Street Market Day in full swing. Downtown businesses will open early at 9 AM, offering special deals and lilac-themed surprises. Just a block away, the Farmer’s Market at the Claremore Courthouse parking lot will provide fresh local produce and goods. Families will love the sidewalk chalk art area for kids, as well as a special Cherokee storytelling session held at Gazebo Park. Children will get to decorate rocks to create symbolic animals like water spiders, turtles, and a colorful snake that will become a feature in the Lilac District. All these animals hold significance in Cherokee folklore. Quilt lovers will appreciate the quilt show, which pays homage to settler-era craftsmanship and features talented local quilters.
Recent Lilac District Upgrades Claremore Main Street Inc, a non-profit dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the historic downtown district is the organizer of the Lilac Festival. The Cherokee Nation is the title sponsor along with other sponsors soon to be announced. The festival will also highlight ongoing efforts to enhance the Lilac District’s charm. According to Steve Robinson, CMS Executive Director, the event will showcase the initial efforts of a new CMS initiative to transform the facade of Claremore Main Street. The project will include adding flower baskets to light poles, branding Main Street with the new CMS logo, painting the light poles, and installing more planting areas to produce an overall visual that ties in with the name Lilac District.
With free admission and parking, the Lilac Festival promises to be a weekend filled with community spirit, cultural appreciation, and plenty of fun. “Claremore has a very active downtown community, committed to keeping it attractive and vibrant,” said Gebhart. “We hope attendees walk away with a deeper connection to our town’s history and a fantastic family experience.”
Don’t miss the chance to experience the Lilac Festival—where history and community come to life!

For many, the thought of planning a funeral in advance is an uncomfortable topic, yet it is one of the most compassionate gifts you can give your loved ones. Connie Reynolds, owner of Reynolds Holz Cremation & Funeral Services since 1999 and a funeral agent for over 20 years, understands this deeply. “This line of work is a ministry,” Connie explains. “We meet people on their worst days and help them through something they do not know how
to do. They reach out to us for help, and we supply that help.” One of the most invaluable services Connie and her team provide is PreNeed policies—an opportunity for individuals to prearrange their funerals, ensuring that their wishes are documented and their families are not left with difficult decisions during an already painful time.
When a loved one passes, those left behind must navigate not only their grief but also a myriad of decisions regarding funeral services, cremation, and final arrangements. “We want to overcome the struggle families face when affairs are not in order for their loved ones,” Connie says. A PreNeed policy eases that stress, offering clarity and guidance when families need it most.
Without a PreNeed policy, surviving family members are often left guessing about their loved one’s wishes, leading to potential emotional strain and financial pressure. By prearranging, individuals ensure everything is outlined on paper, removing uncertainty and allowing families to focus on what truly matters—remembering and honoring their loved one.
A PreNeed policy offers various options tailored to an individual’s preferences, including burial, cremation, veteran benefits, and tribal benefits for those who qualify. Payment plans are also available, with options to pay over three, five, or seven years, making it an accessible choice for many.
“Once you write a PreNeed, the expectation of it coming to fruition is about 7-10 years,” Connie shares. Though it may be a hard decision in the present, the long-term relief it provides is immeasurable.
Many who have experienced the benefits of a PreNeed policy express their gratitude. “We see so much thankfulness when those individuals come in, and it is such a relief for them when we pull out their relative’s PreNeed policy,” Connie recalls. “We want to produce more of that relief.”
In 2024 alone, Connie and her team serviced just under 500 families, demonstrating their deep commitment to providing professional, empathetic care to those in need. “No one wants to meet us, but we are thankful to help them through this process,” Connie notes. The funeral home prides itself on professionalism, ensuring that every family receives the same level of care and attention.
For those considering a PreNeed policy, the process is simple and begins with a conversation. Appointments provide the opportunity to explore benefits, discuss personal preferences, and establish a plan that offers peace of mind. Information is readily available on their Facebook page and website for those seeking to learn more.
Planning is not about facing the inevitability of death—it’s about caring for the people you love in the gentlest way possible. As Connie puts it, “If I die is not correct. It is when I die. No one wants to think about it, but the burden on your loved ones can be immense.” By taking action today, you can ensure that your family is supported and comforted when they need it most.
For more information on PreNeed policies and funeral planning services, visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Let Reynolds Holz Cremation & Funeral Services help you take this important step with confidence and peace of mind.

In Broken Arrow, the harsh reality of hunger is closer than many realize. One in five Oklahoma children faces food insecurity, and half of the Broken Arrow Public School students qualify for free or reduced lunches—a number that continues to climb. Seniors aren’t spared either, with one in ten unsure where their next meal will come from. Despite being a thriving, growing city, Broken Arrow reflects the sobering statistic that Oklahoma ranks 46th in the nation for food insecurity.
What Does BA Neighbors Do?
That’s where Broken Arrow Neighbors (BA Neighbors) steps in. As a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving local residents with dignity, compassion, and empowerment, BA Neighbors offers critical services that make a real difference. From combating food insecurity to providing emergency financial assistance, financial literacy programs, and career guidance, their impact is both vast and deeply personal.
“We have had so many first-time families coming to Broken Arrow Neighbors with the hard choice of whether to put food on the table or pay rent,” said Megan Quickle, executive director of BA Neighbors. “The need is just tremendously growing in our community—a staggering necessity.”
How Does BA Neighbors Raise Funds?
To continue supporting the growing number of families in need, BA Neighbors is hosting its 3rd Annual Hunger in Your Backyard: Defying Hunger Gala on April 25, 2025, at the elegant Crystal Ballroom in the Historic Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa. Starting at 6 p.m., this black-tie event invites guests to “dress to impress the wizard in your emerald elegance, or swish, swish into the gala in your perfectly pink best.”
Co-chaired by Cynthia Swinehart of GH2 Architects and Ray Neal of Big Ray in BA, the gala promises an evening of fine dining, live music, and an exclusive VIP after-party at the Mayo Hotel Penthouse for certain sponsor levels.
But it’s not just about glitz and glamour. The gala serves as a crucial fundraiser to support BA Neighbors’ expanding services. In 2024 alone, the organization provided over 81,000 services—a staggering increase of 53,000 services since 2022.
Is Food Insecurity A Problem In Broken Arrow?
“Broken Arrow is a prosperous and beautiful community, but there is also a growing need,” Quickle emphasized. “Oklahomans are not being paid a living wage that equates to security. Many are living paycheck to paycheck, and when something unexpected happens, that’s when BA Neighbors steps in.”
At the core of BA Neighbors’ mission is the Neighbor’s Choice Curbside Pantry program, which provides families with groceries for 30 days—including food for their pets. Beyond food help, the Emergency Financial Assistance Program helps residents avoid utility shutoffs and eviction, offering a critical safety net for families on the brink.
BA Neighbors also runs Jump Start, their community mentorship program, pairing clients with mentors to build financial literacy and career readiness. “It’s not just about providing immediate relief but also about empowering individuals to take the next step in their careers and lives,” Quickle noted.
These programs, combined with extensive community outreach and partnerships, create a safety net that helps Broken Arrow thrive.
The success of the Defying Hunger Gala—and the continued impact of BA Neighbors—depends on community support. Tickets are available in pairs and as full tables, with multiple sponsorship levels offering exclusive perks, including access to the VIP after-party.
“It isn’t just about throwing a gala—it’s about educating and bringing awareness to everything that Broken Arrow Neighbors does and helping fund that critical mission,” Quickle said.
Where Can I Learn More About the Defying Hunger Gala?
Interested supporters can learn more about sponsorship opportunities and purchase tickets at hungerinyourbackyard.com or follow BA Neighbors on social media for updates.
As Broken Arrow grows, so does the need for compassionate and effective support. By attending the Defying Hunger Gala or becoming a sponsor, you can help ensure that no family has to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table.
It’s time for our community to come together, dressed in emerald and pink, to fight hunger and empower our neighbors. Let’s defy hunger, one family at a time.

Claremore’s historic downtown is gearing up for a transformation, and Steve Robinson, Executive Director of Claremore Main Street and Chairman of the Board for the Claremore Museum of History, couldn’t be more excited. With a mix of aesthetic improvements and cultural celebrations, the Lilac District is preparing to take center stage in the downtown revitalization efforts.
One of the most anticipated events this year is the inaugural Lilac Festival in June. “This event celebrates Cherokee culture with all kinds of events and activities,” Robinson shared. “It’s happening on a food truck Thursday in June, and it’s also a preview of some things happening on Main Street as far as the facade.”
The festival pays homage to Lynn Riggs, a Cherokee citizen and playwright best known for his play, “Green Grow the Lilacs,” the story that later inspired Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! By tying the festival to this legacy, Robinson hopes to create a deeper connection between Claremore’s cultural history and its contemporary development.
Beyond the festival, significant enhancements are planned for the district itself. “We are planning to install flower baskets on the light poles, paint the light poles from green to black, and paint our Lilac District logo onto the three intersections along Mainstreet,” Robinson detailed. “We’re also looking to project some images onto building structures at night that establish our brand in the Lilac District, as well as doing some work with the intersection crosswalks to make them more appealing.”
Despite its name, Robinson notes, “If you look around, we’re kind of barren concrete for all three blocks of downtown.” These efforts aim to inject charm into the area and solidify the Lilac District’s identity as a welcoming and vibrant part of the community.
The city is playing a crucial role in supporting these changes. “The city supports Claremore Main Street each year by giving us our primary source of funding,” Robinson explained. “We also have Kyle Clifton, the city planner, on our board. He sits in on our design committee and acts as our consultant with the city on all the projects and activities that we have going on.”
The ultimate goal? To create a thriving downtown business environment. “I want people waiting in line to open a business on Claremore’s Main Street,” Robinson said. “We want businesses here to be long term. We want stability, and economic vitality, and we want the Lilac District to become a place where people want to shop, eat, unwind, and experience a bit of what living in Claremore’s all about.”
To encourage community engagement, the Lilac District has a robust event lineup, starting in May with Boots on the Boulevard to kick off food truck season. “We usually do something about every month, and we encourage people to follow us on social media and come participate,” Robinson urged. “That helps us achieve our goals and mission.”
For those looking to stay updated on all things Lilac District, Robinson recommends following the Lilac District Facebook page and visiting downtownclaremore.org. With so many exciting developments ahead, downtown Claremore is poised for a bright and bustling future.
