ack before it was acceptable for a woman to wear pants there was a Fullerton lady named Lillian Yeager. Not only did she wear slacks and swear just like a man, this entrepreneur opened her very own automobile business in 1914. She saved $71.85 and then added $1000.00 of borrowed money to open a transportation store. Five years later, she was in the driver’s seat of one of the county’s finest repair shops. She had a steady work force of 14 men and at the peak of her career she found it necessary to add six more employees. While waiting to get your vehicle fixed, you could enjoy a beverage and a smoke at her soda fountain and cigar counter. Shortly, after the Dodge Brothers started to build cars, Yeager added to her establishment by opening the county’s first Dodge Motorcar Showroom. The inventors said to ‘go easy’ at first and only order one car. She had her own ideas and demanded a truckload, which were all sold before they were delivered.

Taco Tuesdays Revolucion Cantina

Written by Mark Stouffer

These things would be a remarkable accomplishment for any two men but for ONE woman at the turn of century it was incredible! Lillian Yeager lived at what is now Le Potager, at Harbor and Brookdale. She was a Fullertonian.

A Film Truly Improved Written by Alex Stouffer

ypically remakes get criticized with a bias towards their originals, but it would be a little hard to make that argument when we’re talking about the remake of True Grit. Of course the story is the same, but the Coen Brothers made so many improvements on wide range of details in direction and storytelling. Start with the acting. The pace and delivery of the dialogue isn’t rushed like the original, and many of the scenes have been reworked so that they build a better understanding about the relationship between characters. The entire cast were much more believable in their performances than the cast of it’s 1969 original, which had quiet a few moments that came off as corny and overacted.

ur constant quest for the best bargain in quality tacos has lead us to Revolucion Cantina. They serve their tacos on paper plates (we like this, remember, we want them to save money so we save money) with the cilantro, onion, tomato and queso fresco already on the taco. This alone make them far better than Cantina Lounge where you just get a cold tortilla with some meat on it. At Revolucion they toast the tortilla, carefully apply the condiments, and you get better salsa and access to the salsa bar with a variety of salsas and radishes and carrots. The chicken and pork tacos were delicious. The chips and salsa were delicious. The steak tacos were of the dry shredded steak type that some people don’t like. We learned too late that they also have al pastor tacos. Tacos are $0.50 before 9:00 and $1 afterwards. $2 Coronas and $3 margaritas complete the Taco Tuesday offerings, one of the best in town.

Coffee Shop Cinema: M.A.S.H.

Written by Mark Stouffer recently watched a screening of M*A*S*H, the 1970’s Robert Altman cult classic, with friends at a local coffee house. The first thing I notice about this famous film is the bad editing and mismatched audio dub. I realize that this was an experimental time in film. Scenes of people smoking pot acting like hippies where new in movies. But there is a jumbled nature to the scene transitions that only disassociates.

There is a famous shower scene in which Sally Abbott was first on the Flyers during their Kellerman’s character ‘Hot Lips’ O’Houlihan inaugural season of 2005, before being traded to is exposed to men sitting outside by pulling up the Yuma Scorpions. He came back to the OC the shower tent with a rope. When I was young Flyers in 2009 as the pitching coach under Phil this scene was controversial because of it’s Nevin, who was recently promoted to be the nudity. When we see it now it is shocking that so coach of the Detroit Tigers Triple A farm team. recently such a small area of midriff was thought Abbott has made his first step in climbing the of as nudity. p top is a colored pencil drawing by artist, Nice Galindo. He does most of his work with this medium, but in turn has developed a surreal style fit for graphic novels. He’s also done work on marble slabs using colored pencils. Below is a piece from Taco Comics that was previously featured at Weavver during one of the earlier art walks that we’ve covered through the year. It’s currently being discussed with members at Taco Comics and The Fullertonian to start including a comic for our weekly print newsletter. We can’t wait to see what art the new year brings.

From the top: Don Kinda shows off some work at PAS Gallery in December. Below is a mosaic piece by Shawn Sandfer of Mega Man made solely of buttons. Much like pixels combined to create early 8-bit graphics. At the bottom is a previously unreleased photo from Elizabeth Zaikowski. We featured some of her mandala art but were never able to use this particular photo.
