Through focused coursework and interdisciplinary learning, students gain the tools to help create safer, healthier, and more integrated communities, and to engage with individuals facing mental health challenges and emergency situations. Students learn to navigate complex public safety social work systems with cultural competence and an unwavering commitment to human dignity. The certificate courses emphasize professional values, collaborative practice, and the ability to respond to diverse community needs with insight and intention. Designed for current MSW students and working professionals with their MSW, this program equips social workers to practice effectively at micro, mezzo, and macro levels within public safety systems that demand technical skills, adaptability, and a solid social work perspective.
Students engage in scenario-based learning and collaborative case studies that reflect the realities of working in police departments, fire, EMS, mobile crisis, and with certified community behavioral health clinics. Coursework includes synchronous colloquia and applied activities, helping students build practical skills in diagnosis, ethics, and interdisciplinary teamwork. This immersive approach prepares social workers to act precisely and carefully in high-stakes, multi-faceted environments.
