LADY

A G GA . y t i C o c i in Mex

n r o Bthis way! 04

Today, is no known secret who Lady Gaga is. Who is Lady Gaga? Her name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. And why has she rising to a stardom in such a short time. Many have compare her with the queen of pop, Madonna. Does she even deserve that comparison? When you think about it, how long did Madonna take to even obtain the title of queen of pop. With only two records out, Lady Gaga has managed to do what Madonna has done in a period of ten years or more. Yet each individual is different and to me, both offer a different sense of music and style. Whe I first heard Lady Gaga I really did not quite get her. Her music was too much for me. A year passed after I had heard “Just Dance” her first single and her LP “The Fame Monster” had come out. The first single of that album was “Bad Romance” which is when I then became a ‘little monster’. In the world of Lady Gaga, fans are called ‘little monsters’. Her music then began to intrigue me in so many ways. Her message and her

Rah, rah, ah, ah, ah Roma, roma, ma Gaga, ooh, la, la performance from that point on made me a fan. After seeing her in three different occasions in the past two years, the date for her Mexico City show was announced early in 2012. She was to perform at Foro Sol, a venue fit for more than 75,000 on October 26, 2012. As a music lover, concerts intrigue me in so many ways. Concerts make the artist redeem themselves to their fans for who they really are. Every city has a public of its own. I had seen her in the US but not in Mexico. As a devoted ‘little monster’ I bought my ticket to her show in Mexico City. Lady Gaga has become an inspiration to many people. Yet on the other hand, people have managed to critize her in many ways. As many other music artist, Lady Gaga only wants to have a pressence in the world of music while helping other poeple to

be strong and solid to their own beliefs. In the end many music artist follow the same road as Lady Gaga has though Gaga has had more of a strong road to fame. I believe that we are who we are, and if Lady Gaga has managed to be a positive inspiration to young poeple, let her be. My fourth show in Mexico City seeing Lady Gaga was intense. The crowd around me knew all her songs word by word. Gaga managed to have everyone sing, jump, and even cry. With an eclectic and surprising 2 hour show, she managed to give and intensifying performance where she thank Mexico over and over for their support. Fifteen minutes after her last song, half of the crowd had left, and yet Lady Gaga came out and sang “Marry the Night” in an acoustic version to the people that stayed. All we can say is that Gaga is here to stay.

And the Nominees are... On October 4, 2012 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced the nominees for it’s 2013 induction. But the big news surrounding this announcement is that for the first time fans can officially cast their vote for the inductees.

in Cleveland, the nonprofit organization that exists to educate its audiences on the global impact of the rock and roll art form via the museum, as well as its education programs and library and archives,” according to the press release.

In total, there are 15 nominees for this year. The nominees include: The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Albert King, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, The Meters, Randy Newman, N.W.A, Procol Harum, Public Enemy, Rush and Donna Summer.

The induction process goes by the following. Ballots are sent out to an international voting body that consists of about 600 artists, historians and members of the music industry. The performers who receive the highest number of tallies and over 50 percent of the votes will be inducted. The inductees will be announced in the coming months.

According to a press release from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in order to be eligible for nomination, an artist or band must have released its first single or album at 25 years before the year they are nominated (released before 1987). “All inductees are ultimately represented in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

The induction ceremony will be held in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre on Saturday, April 18, 2013. The show will be broadcasted on HBO at a later time and date. Christopher J. Valverde

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was first. Then The Massacre was second. Followed by Curtis and finally Before I Self Destruct. All of that happened in the span of seven years. But here it is 2012 and nothing. Much talk has gone around about 50 Cent’s fifth studio album, but nothing yet. About three years ago, Black Magic was being written, recorded and slated to come out in sometime in 2010. But that never happened. Black Magic would have been a different sound that 50 Cent fans are accustomed to hearing. It was influenced by number of genres, including dance, rock and pop music; it would have a “higher tempo” than his previous work. It would have been interesting to see what critics would have said about it but sadly it didn’t happen. Then he started recording more songs, songs that were along the same lines of Get Rich or Die Tryin’. Might not be a bad idea

08

since that is the album that launched him into the mainstream. Many critics gave it a favorable rating, including XXL Magazine who gave it their highest rating possible. He tweeted his fans that he was working in the studio on his new album and be on the lookout for it in the summer of 2011. But the summer came and went… First Black Magic and now this. Was anything going to come out anytime soon? What was the cause of all these delays? Well the answer finally came to bay… Tension. Tension between 50 Cent and the record label, Interscope Records. They couldn’t agree how on the recording process of the upcoming album, among other things. These disagreements put the release date of the album on hold. It seemed like release of the album wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, or at least not for 2011.

But this didn’t keep 50 Cent from recording mixtapes. Since his last album release in 2009, he has released four mixtapes and one digital album (War Angel LP, Forever King, The Big 10, The Lost Tape and 5 (Murder by Numbers)). And if these mixtapes are any indication, it seems like he is true to his word of recording songs along the same lines of Get Rich or Die Tryin’. All five have opened to fair or favorable reviews. No, this isn’t to say that his next album will be hard hitting like his first one, but I’m sure 50 Cent fans welcome this old but new found aggression on his songs. But fear not 50 Cent fans, it seems like the wait is over…hopefully. His fifth studio album, entitled Street King Immortal is slated to be released in January 201. But of course this is not without some drama. Street King Immortal could have been released this past summer but once again

disagreements between the recording artist and record label put things on hold for a while. But no worries, an album is coming in the next few months. On July 27, 2012 the lead single of his upcoming album was released, ‘New Day’. The song features Dr. Dre and Alicia Keys. The song cracked Billboard’s Hot 100, with a debut at #79. Other songs slated to be on the album include: ‘Lighters’, ‘Fatherhood’ and ‘The Psycho’. And it looks like music will be the only thing on 50’s mind with the recent news coming out about he not being apart of The Money Team Promotions anymore. TMT was a boxing promotion formed by 50 and Floyd Mayweather, but 50 is no longer part of it. So for now, the only things on 50 Cent’s plate is Street King Immortal and SMS Audio, his headphones company. Christopher J. Valverde

AM.

Christina Aguilera

and she’s back

Back from where?

Christina Aguilera was never actually gone but since her last album, ‘Bionic’ which wasn’t much of a success in sales, she has been out of the loop in the music industry. After a divorce an a role in major motion picture ‘Burlesque’ next to Cher, Christina had not managed to get herself back in the spotlight. This stopped until she got a spot on THE VOICE which helped Christina Aguilera get a hold of fame once again. In it’s third edition of THE VOICE she now releases her new material ‘Lotus’ which just got released in November. THE VOICE resembles a more mature Christina. A Christina that knows how to grab a hold of life and make things happen. When the Mickey Mouse Club gave her one of her first spots in fame and television, she never imagined she would come such a long way. Being part of a hit show has given Christina the chance to let everyone know she is still strong in music. ‘Lotus’ is giving back to music and to her fans which have always been there.

Evangelina Rangel
