Warrior Guide to Giving and Getting Involved

Valley Christian

Dear VCS Family and Friends,

At Valley Christian Schools, our partnership with parents is the foundation of the Quest for Excellence. So much of what happens here depends on the relationships formed in this community and the way we all invest our God-given talents and gifts for the good of our students. VCS is the school it is today because of those who have come before and given their best. It is our honor and privilege to Extend the Gift to the next generation.

In the following pages, you will see ways to partner in your child’s success by volunteering on our campuses, participating in our activities, and giving to the school through Annual and Capital Giving.

Please consider this your official invitation to be involved! As you read the guide, feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

Thank you for making a difference in the VCS Community!

For over sixty years, Valley Christian Schools has educated students who exemplify what it means to be a Warrior. We strive to empower our students to be leaders who serve humbly and positively impact their families, communities, and the world. Each year we renew our commitment to excellence so that the legacy of our past inspires future Warriors as they forge new paths of influence.

We are a vibrant community of uniquely gifted students, impressive alumni, dedicated employees, diverse families, and passionate donors. Each person gives our best every day, using whatever we have to nurture our most important resource, our students.

Every student benefits from charitable contributions made by past and present donors. We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with you as we invest in the lives of the incredible young people who walk through our doors each year. Thank you for taking the time to learn about the various ways to give as we work together to extend the Valley Christian legacy for future students.

“Just as you excel in everything - in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us - see that you also excel in this grace of giving,” (2 Corinthians 8:7).

What is the Warrior Fund?

The Warrior Fund is our yearly fundraising campaign that supports programs, projects, and services not included in tuition.

Why is the Warrior Fund critical?

Tuition funds operations. Philanthropy fuels vision.

While tuition covers 100% of our daily operations, philanthropy enhances our campus and programs, making VCS the school we love today.

Valley Christian Schools’ vision is a world where all students pursue their personal Quest for Excellence™. Through the philanthropy and generosity of our community, we see this vision come to life.

What does the Warrior Fund support?

• Engaging students with the highest quality academic and extracurricular opportunities

• Attracting, retaining, and empowering talented professionals to innovate and create world-class educational opportunities

• Enhancing our academics, arts, and athletics programs and facilities on both campuses

• Tuition Assistance for families with a demonstrated need

How much should I give?

We hope that all members of the VCS community will give in a way that feels meaningful to them. No matter the size, every gift is a blessing and deeply appreciated. Most importantly, give something.

Every gift makes a difference for students. All donors become members of our Warrior Club and are recognized in our Annual Giving Report. In addition, there are special events each year for our Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Legacy members.

Who Gives?

Everyone! We hope for 100% participation as parents, grandparents, alumni, and alumni families contribute to the Warrior Fund. Our unity enhances the spirit of the Warrior community and demonstrates confidence to our major donors, foundations, and corporation.

Giving Levels Legacy $25,000+ Diamond $10,000+ Platinum $5,000 - $9,999 Gold $2,500 - $4,999 Silver $1,000 - $2,499 Warrior Club Up to $999
All donors are recognized in our Annual Giving Report (AGR) for gifts given each school fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Our Founding Purpose - that the students might know that “in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge...so that whatsoever they do in word or in deed will be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him,” (Colossians 2:3, 3:17).

Capital Giving

Periodically, we seek contributions from our community to build or improve the learning and athletic spaces on our campuses. Without capital giving, we could not provide the high-quality learning environment that helps our students thrive. The beautiful campus we have today is because of the generosity of past donors.

Designated Funds

Annual Giving to the Warrior Fund is used each year for the greatest needs on our campus. Donors with a heart for a specific area of VCS can designate their gifts to particular funds including the following:

Tuition Assistance

Our tuition assistance program is available to current and prospective students with demonstrated financial needs across all campuses. Tuition assistance allows qualified students to become Warriors who might not otherwise afford to.

Gifts to our Wellness Initiative impact new programs to support student mental health and well-being.

Love Gift

Every November, our PTPF asks our community to support a Christmas Bonus for our dedicated faculty and staff.

Teacher’s Assistance

In partnership with the HAGE foundation, the Teacher’s Assistance Fund was created in 2021 to support and retain high-quality teachers in our very high cost of living area.

Annual Gifts to the Warrior Fund may also be designated to specific campuses or programs, including VCES, VCJH, VCHS, Athletics, AMSE, BEI, or the Conservatory. Each of these designated funds exists because of the passions and interests of generous donors. If you want to impact VCS significantly, please connect with Christi Stockhaus, cstockhaus@vcs.net.

We define the highest standard of excellence as the nature, character, and works of God, and we believe it is the standard to which we aspire. The Quest for Excellence is to follow Jesus and to become more like Him. We strive for excellence to glorify God, and not ourselves.

Ways of GIVING

There are easy and convenient ways for you to give throughout the year. Visit give.vcs.net to learn more about our giving opportunities.

Monetary Gifts

Gifts by Mail

Please make checks payable to “Valley Christian Schools” and send them to:

Valley Christian Schools

Attn: Advancement Office

Online Gifts

Donors can choose to give a one-time gift or set up a recurring gift directly on our website, give.vcs.net. Gifts can be given either with a card or can be set up directly with a bank using direct debit.

Matching Gifts

Frequently, employers have matching gift programs, including Google, Apple, Adobe, and many others. If you (or your spouse) work for a company with a matching program, you could possibly double your impact for VCS students. Appropriate paperwork can be secured from your company’s Human Resources Department.

Gifts of Stock

Make a bigger impact by donating stock or other appreciated assets! Compared with donating cash, or selling your appreciated securities and contributing the after-tax proceeds, you may be able to increase your gift and your tax deduction. VCS has made it easy to give in the form of stocks, ETFs, or cryptocurrency with a partnership with Overflow, app.overflow.co/valleychristian

Recurring Gifts

Donors may set up a recurring (multi-month) gift transaction through the VCS website. This option enables donors to give larger gifts in small installments for a preset period.

Memorial & Honorary Gifts

This is a great way to honor a teacher, a friend, or a loved one, while supporting the school simultaneously. You can designate an honoree or indicate a memorial on the online giving page comments. A special card will be sent to the family of the individual being honored, announcing that a gift was made to the school in their honor (omitting the amount of the gift).

Anonymous Giving

VCS respects any donor’s wish to remain anonymous. You can choose to make an anonymous gift (the specific gift will be noted as anonymous) or be an anonymous donor (every gift made would be anonymous, and your name would appear as “Anonymous” in our Annual Giving Report).

The Shechem Oak Society is a growing group committed to strengthening VCS to fulfill its mission and vision for generations to come through Planned Giving. A Planned Gift is a personal and meaningful contribution that will leave a lasting legacy for you, your family, and the thousands of children that your generosity will influence.

In Scripture, God assured Abraham that He would keep His promise of giving the land to Abraham’s descendants. It was where Jacob dug a well and erected an altar; where Joseph’s family buried his bones; where Joshua gave his parting address to serve the Lord; and where Jesus disclosed Himself as the Messiah to the Samaritan woman at the well (Genesis 12:6, 33:18, Joshua 24:26, John 4:12). Shechem was a reminder of God’s faithfulness for generation after generation.

We pray that VCS, like Shechem, will remind us of God’s faithfulness and fulfill its mission in Silicon Valley and the world. Planned Giving allows our community to make an incredible impact on future generations. The Shechem Oak Society includes as members, all who have given legacy gifts to Valley Christian Schools.

If you have already left a planned gift, please let us know so we can include you in our Shechem Oak Society

Parents and alumni families are essential to the fabric of our Warrior Community. By pouring into the lives of our students and encouraging and supporting our staff and faculty, you will find new purpose and friendships. We hope all families will get involved through various events and opportunities every year. The success of every event relies heavily on our volunteers, and we encourage all to participate in an area that suits their time and talents.

Getting Involved

The Warrior Fund Team

The new Warrior Fund Cabinet includes members from our entire VCS K-12 community, including parents, alumni families, faculty, and staff. It exists to build a community that supports our students through volunteering and fundraising efforts. This team champions the Warrior fund, supporting community events like Homecoming, the Quest Ball, and the Golf Classic. We celebrate the great things happening at VCS, thank those who make it possible, and invite more to get involved.

To connect, contact the Advancement Office at advancement@vcs.net , or call Jackie Wong at (408) 362-7644

Prayer Intercessors

Members of the VCS community gather weekly to pray for our students, faculty, and staff. If you would like to join our faithful prayer teams, please contact our lead prayer intercessor, Patty Favet, pfavet@vcs.net

Meet PTPF (Parent-Teacher Prayer Fellowship). Think of it like the PTA but better! Each year our PTPF parents spread love and encouragement throughout each campus. Many parents say that their friendships in PTPF have lasted throughout their child’s school years and even after graduation. Keep an eye out for PTPF communications from your campus at the beginning of the year to sign-up, or contact your campus directly.

Additional Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers support a variety of events throughout the year and may commit to a few hours or special days and times to help at a specific event. Look for opportunities to sign-up for volunteer shifts in your campus newsletters or other communications throughout the year. Some of these opportunities include:

• Teacher Appreciation

• Homecoming

• Elementary & Junior High Jog-A-Thon

• Junior High Hype Night

• Holiday Events

• Quest Ball Auction and Dinner

• Golf Tournament

• Chaperones for field trips and other events

Many great events throughout the year can help you connect with other families.
