A LETTER FROM THE WARRIOR CLUB

Dear VCS Friends,

Welcome to the 11th Annual Quest Ball—a night to dream big, celebrate our mission, and invest in the future of Valley Christian Schools (VCS). This year, as we embrace the theme of California Dreaming, we are reminded that every outstanding achievement begins with a bold vision. In 1960, VCS was founded on the prayers of parents and educators who dreamed of equipping the next generation with a Christ-centered education. For sixty-five years, VCS has been a place where students discover and pursue their God-given dreams, guided by faith-driven teachers and a supportive community of parents. Generations of parents and supporters have carried this vision forward, ensuring our school continues to thrive in an ever-changing world. Today, VCS provides a dynamic K-12 education where students pursue their Quest for Excellence through Academic Achievement, Artistic Beauty, and Athletic Distinction (A³)—a pursuit made possible by the generosity of this incredible community.

Tuition funds mission. Philanthropy fuels vision.

As part of the Warrior Club, you play a vital role in making these dreams a reality. Every gift tonight supports the Warrior Fund, ensuring students have access to transformative education, dedicated faculty, and life-changing financial assistance. Because of you, future leaders, innovators, artists, and athletes will rise—impacting Silicon Valley and beyond for Christ.

Let’s dream boldly together and build a legacy for the next generation of Warriors. Thank you for partnering with us on this mission!

With gratitude,

MAKE AN IMPACT TONIGHT

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Tonight, you have the opportunity to make a life-changing impact. Your direct gift to the Warrior Fund supports VCS’ mission and vision by inspiring teachers, fueling innovative academic, arts, and athletics programs, and supporting the spiritual formation and well-being of every student.

A vital part of the Warrior Fund—and the Quest Ball that supports it—is raising funds for financial assistance, which provides essential support for over 400 students each year. Without this assistance, these students would not have access to a VCS education.

HOW TO GIVE

When prompted by our auctioneer, raise your paddle to show your support and commitment to our students. The auctioneer will call your number to confirm your pledge. Once your number is announced as the winning bidder:

• Make your gift immediately through BidPal-OneCause on your mobile phone (scan the first QR Code on next page).

• If you prefer to give through a different method, we also accept checks, stock, cryptocurrency, donor-advised funds (DAF), or recurring monthly donations. You can use the tap discs at your table to access our Overflow page to make an immediate gift of stock, cryptocurrency, or DAF tonight.

• Prefer to pledge now and give later? You can commit tonight and fulfill your gift over time in a way that works for you. Connect to our pledge form through the tap discs at your table.

RECOGNITION & ANONYMITY

Your generosity will be celebrated! As donations come in on BidPal-OneCause, the donors’ names will be displayed on the main stage screen throughout the event to celebrate the impact of our community. If you prefer to remain anonymous, simply select “anonymous” when making your gift in BidPal-OneCause.

For those who wish to give more privately, donations can be made directly through BidPal-OneCause at any time, even without raising your paddle. Our Quest Ball staff will be available at the checkout table to assist with any questions or special gift arrangements.

JOIN US FOR THIS SPECIAL MOMENT

This giving opportunity is one of the most meaningful moments of the Quest Ball— a time when our community comes together to answer prayers and open doors for future Warriors. Thank you for considering how you can make a difference!

TEACHER OF THE YEAR | ELEMENTARY

COURTNEY BURON

Courtney Buron’s dedication to Valley Christian Schools spans over a decade, and this year, she was named the Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year.

With a heart for service, a passion for teaching, and a deep love for the Valley Christian community, Courtney has left a lasting impact on her students and colleagues alike.

A Journey of Growth

“I started at Valley in 2011, and it was my first teaching job right out of college. I taught third grade for a while before moving to fifth grade,” Courtney shares with a smile. “Fifth grade is such a unique year—students are on the brink of transitioning to junior high, and I love guiding them through that change. We do fun projects like the year-long State Project, where students get to present their research to their peers. We also have memorable experiences like science camp, which is often their first time away from home. It’s a huge privilege to help them grow both academically and personally.”

Building Long-Lasting Relationships

For Courtney, teaching isn’t just about academics; it’s about forming deep, lasting connections with students and their families. “One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is the relationships I build with my students. I get to know them on a personal level, and I’m often able to stay in touch with them long after they leave my class. It’s so rewarding to see them develop not just as students, but as people.”

Supporting Colleagues and Embracing Technology

In addition to her role as a fifth-grade teacher, Courtney serves as the Educational Technology Mentor for K-5, helping her colleagues integrate technology into their classrooms. “I’ve always had a passion for technology, and I’m excited to help other teachers use it to enhance their lessons. Whether it’s helping someone with a new tool or leading training sessions, I love being a resource for my colleagues.”

Valley Christian’s Special Community

Reflecting on what makes VCS unique, Courtney shares, “The sense of community here is unlike anything I’ve experienced. From our prayer time together as a staff to the way we support one another through challenges, there’s a genuine care for each other. That’s what makes Valley so special—it’s not just about teaching; it’s about serving and growing together.”

A Humble Honor

“I’m truly humbled to be named Elementary Teacher of the Year,” says Courtney. “But this recognition is not just about me—it’s about the entire community at Valley. I’m grateful to work alongside such passionate and supportive colleagues, and I’m excited for the future and the opportunity to continue making a difference.”

Courtney’s dedication, heart for service, and love for her students and colleagues make her a standout educator and an inspiration to all who work with her.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR | JUNIOR HIGH

ALISA MEYER

When Alisa Meyer walks into a classroom, there’s an immediate sense of energy in the air.

For the past eleven years, she has been a standout educator at VCS, known not only for her expertise in mathematics but also for her ability to inspire and engage her students.

With a smile that lights up any room, Alisa has spent her career helping students overcome academic challenges while also fostering their spiritual and personal growth.

“I love witnessing the moment when math finally clicks for students,” she says with genuine enthusiasm. “The excitement in their eyes when their hard work pays off is truly rewarding. Seeing them persevere through challenges and celebrate their success is what makes teaching so fulfilling.”

The Unique Approach to Teaching Math

Alisa’s passion for teaching is rooted in her unique approach to making math both accessible and fun. As the Junior High Math Department Head, she’s constantly looking for innovative ways to engage her students. Whether it’s through interactive projects, differentiated instruction, or creative activities like “Pemdas hopscotch,” Alisa believes in making math a hands-on experience.

“I want my students to feel like math is something they can enjoy, not just something they have to do,” she explains. “I think learning should be an exciting process, and it’s not just about the numbers—it’s about problem solving and seeing the bigger picture.”

Her coworkers are quick to agree. “She makes math fun,” says Daniel Yuen, a colleague at VCS. “Her classes always seem to have something new and exciting. From stock market projects to building model houses, there’s never a dull moment.”

Leading by Example in All Areas of Life

Alisa’s commitment to her students extends well beyond the classroom. In addition to teaching, she is a coach for VCHS Women’s Water Polo and Swimming, balancing the demanding schedules of both athletics and academics. Her leadership in these roles has made her a mentor and role model to countless students, many of whom have looked up to her for guidance in both their academic and personal lives.

“Coaching gives me the chance to mentor students in a different way,” Alisa reflects. “It’s about teaching them life skills, like teamwork and perseverance, just as much as it is about teaching them how to swim or play water polo.”

A Community That Supports and Uplifts

Through all her roles, one thing remains constant: her deep sense of community at Valley Christian. “The support I’ve received from my colleagues and students has been incredible,” she says. “It’s truly a blessing to be part of a place that values both academic and spiritual growth. It feels like family here.”

Alisa’s connection to the VCS community is felt not only by those who work alongside her but also by the students she’s mentored and coached over the years. Her influence extends far beyond the classroom walls.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR | HIGH SCHOOL

PRESTON HAMILTON

At Valley Christian High School, Preston Hamilton is more than just a history teacher; he’s a guide, mentor, and spiritual leader.

Honored with the Teacher of the Year award, Preston’s dedication to his students, his faith, and the school community shines through in every interaction.

A Strong Academic Foundation

Since 2014, Preston has made an impact at VCHS, where he serves as both a teacher and the department chair for social sciences. With a rich academic background, including a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Colorado (Boulder) and two Master’s degrees— one in Teaching from San Francisco University and another in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University—Preston brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom. But what really sets him apart is his passion for teaching and his ability to connect with his students.

Connecting with Students on a Deeper Level

“What I enjoy most about teaching is my interactions with students,” Preston shares. “I teach a subject that’s not just academic—it’s relevant and relatable to their lives. We get to have real, in-depth conversations about the issues that matter to them.”

For Preston, teaching at VCHS offers a unique opportunity to connect with students on a spiritual level. “Being able to pray with and for my students, lead devotions, and integrate biblical principles into the curriculum is a true blessing,” he says. “It’s incredible to see how God works in the lives of students here.”

The Impact of Valley’s Community

The sense of community at Valley is something that has deeply impacted Preston’s own life. He’s found profound prayer and support from both students and colleagues, with many relationships going beyond just the classroom or the workplace. “In many ways, these connections are deeper than those with my church family,” he reflects.

Shaping Character and Faith

Preston’s commitment to his students is not just academic—it’s about shaping their character, guiding them spiritually, and preparing them for life. His heart for service, his commitment to truth, and his ability to lead by example make him an outstanding educator, and this Teacher of the Year award is a fitting recognition of his dedication and passion for his craft.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR | HIGH SCHOOL

ANNE (MARC ’94) DELONG

Anne DeLong, a dedicated educator who has been a cherished member of the VCS community for over two decades. A graduate of VCHS in 1994, Anne returned to teach in 1998, and since then, has enriched the lives of countless students.

With a dual bachelor’s degree in Pre-Med and French from San Jose State University, and a Master’s degree in Curriculum in Education from Western Governors University, Anne’s academic journey has shaped her into a passionate and well-rounded educator.

The Joy of Student Growth

When asked what she enjoys most about teaching in the classroom, Anne reflects on the transformative nature of education. “I like watching students grow in whatever form that may be, whether that is excitement for a science topic, growth in resiliency, or watching student growth in their social skills or becoming more well-rounded individuals,” she explains. The process of guiding students through their academic and personal development is at the heart of her passion.

Teaching at VCS: A Blend of Faith and Science

For Anne, teaching at VCS offers a unique opportunity to integrate her faith with her teaching. “I love being able to pray with students whenever they are having a hard time. I also appreciate being able to attribute to God all the amazing ways He created the human body and the world of science,” she shares. Being able to tie scientific concepts back to her belief in God’s design is not only fulfilling but a privilege. Anne’s classroom is a space where faith and education meet in powerful ways.

A Deep Connection with Her Students

What truly resonates with Anne is the enthusiasm her students bring to their learning. “I really enjoy seeing my students’ excitement for life,” she says with a smile. “I also love witnessing all the amazing ways our students take care of one another and build each other up.” The sense of community and support among the students is something Anne holds dear, knowing that these positive relationships contribute to their growth both inside and outside the classroom.

A Strong Sense of Community

Beyond the classroom, Anne values the sense of community at VCS. “I love doing life with my coworkers—they are so kind and friendly and are the best!” she shares. The relationships she has built with her colleagues have made her experience at VCS all the more rewarding. In a school that fosters a strong sense of unity and purpose, Anne is grateful to be a part of a team that feels more like family.

In the years since she first began teaching at VCS, Anne DeLong has remained an inspiring figure, blending her love for science, her dedication to her students, and her deep faith into everything she does.

Giving PLANNED

The Shechem Oak Society empowers our community to make an extraordinary impact on future generations. The society comprises all who generously bequeath legacy gifts to Valley Christian Schools.

God assured Abraham of keeping His promise to grant the land to Abraham’s descendants. Shechem holds a significant place in this narrative—it’s where Jacob excavated a well and erected an altar, where Joseph’s family laid his remains to rest, where Joshua delivered his parting words in service to the Lord, and where Jesus revealed Himself as the Messiah to the Samaritan woman at the well (Genesis 12:6, 33:18, Joshua 24:26, John 4:12). Shechem stands as a powerful symbol of God’s faithfulness across generations. We fervently pray that VCS, like Shechem, will serve as a reminder of God’s unwavering faithfulness in Silicon Valley and worldwide.

At a time when many American educational institutions are straying from biblical values, you can ensure that Valley Christian Schools continues its Quest for Excellence™ for future generations. Join us in providing high-quality Christ-centered education to our children and grandchildren by including VCS in your will.

VCS partners with Thompson & Associates to offer confidential and complimentary estate planning consultations to our board members, administrators, faculty, staff, and community. Join my wife, Kris, myself, and others in discovering the most tax-efficient means of transferring your estate to benefit your family and your passions.

As a trusted member of our VCS community, please accept our gift to you and arrange your estate planning consultation with Darren Penny of Thompson & Associates. You may email advancement@vcs.net or call my office at 408-513-2503. If you have already included VCS in your planned giving, kindly inform us so we may include you in our Shechem Oak Society.

Looking forward,

WINE PULL

Support VCS kids and take home a mystery bottle of wine, bubbly, or whiskey at our Wine Pull game! Purchase a bottle for $50 and select any one at random—bottles range in value from $25 to $200!

*Wine cannot be opened or consumed at the event and should be taken home.
