The buddy-cop comedy, which stars Damon Wayans (“New Girl”) and Clayne Crawford (“Rectify”), will indeed be back for another season on FOX. Season one had a full-season 18-episode order, culminating in the March 15 season finale. When the show does return this fall, it will move from Wednesday to TuesDamon Wayans day night. There will be a total of six seasons of the crime thriller, which is set in Wyoming and centers on Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), who is trying to rebuild his life after the death of his wife. The current five seasons of the series -- which originally aired on A&E until it was canceled and brought back to life on Netflix -- are available for streaming on the popular online platform. The 10-episode sixth and final season will air later this year, although Netflix, as of this writing, has yet to set a release date. Since season four, when Netflix picked up the series, “Longmire” has premiered each new season in September, so odds are that season six will be a September baby as well. ***

Passport Is Step One

Are you traveling internationally this summer? Have you sent for your passport? That’s one step that you can’t leave until the last minute.

The website for U.S. Passports & International Travel [travel.state.gov] indicates that it can take 6-8 weeks to get your passport after it receives your application. Expedited service (2-3 weeks) is available at many post offices, but it costs an extra $60. If you already have a passport, check its expiration date and be sure it has at least a few blank pages.

If you need one even faster, you’ll need to visit a passport office. Keep the travel.state. gov link handy because it has a status-check feature and phone numbers to call for information or for applying. Click on Before You Go for tips on staying safe while abroad. During the summer months, walk your dog early in the morning and later in the evening or at night to avoid scorched paw pads and to make it the pleasant experience it should be for both of you.

Even though it’s tempting to think your dog wants to be with you at all times, what he really wants is to be comfortable. So leave him at home -- preferably inside -- if bringing him along means he has to spend any time at all alone in the car.

Cracking the windows, parking in a shady spot and leaving the car running with the air conditioning cranked are not valid exceptions to this rule. A dog should never be left alone in a car on a hot day.

Gardner, clearly a loving and devoted dog owner who just made a mistake, told reporters she’s learned a lesson and hopes Max’s story will be a lesson to others. Wisdom, so often gleaned from tragedy, is just as useful when unearthed from good fortune.

Before I get to today’s questions, all of which deal with claiming retroactive benefits, I must make this general point about the issue: The law says you can claim up to six months’ worth of retroactive benefits, as long as it doesn’t involve the payment of any reduced Social Security benefits. Or to put that another way, no retroactive retirement benefits can be paid prior to age 66. It’s a different story when it comes to disability benefits. And that is briefly explained in the answer to the final question.

I will turn 70 in March 2018. I was planning to wait until then to start my Social Security. But I recently retired so I went to my Social Security office and signed up for retirement benefits. They offered me the option of taking six months’ worth of retroactive payments, but I declined that. Now I’m wondering if I made a mistake. What do you think?

DEAR DR. ROACH: I am fair-skinned and have had sunburns in the past, so I have been diligent about looking for rough, scaly skin patches that might turn into cancer and dark irregular patches that might be melanoma. But I had not read anything about watching for a pore that bleeds, heals and bleeds again. I have a place like that on my nose and just thought it was thin skin. There was no bump, no redness, no scaling; just occasional bleeding. Then it would heal and everything seemed fine.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I read in your column that for vaginal atrophy (dryness/itching) you suggest that a woman use topical cream instead of estrogen cream. I am 59 years old, and have been using Premarin cream externally for a month with noticeable results. I use a dab every other day. Should I continue to use it even when I don’t have symptoms, or only as needed? If you think non-hormonal cream would be better, could you suggest one? I have tried one, but it didn’t seem to work. -- A.A. ANSWER: I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. “Topical” in this case meant a vaginal estrogen cream, as opposed to estrogen taken by mouth. I would continue using it, since it has been effective. Most women use it twice a week after initial treatment.

ANSWER: A ganglion is a cystic structure that is associated with a tendon sheath or joint.

They most commonly occur in the wrist. It’s not clear why they occur: One theory is that they are from the tissue around a joint that makes joint fluid, the synovium.

They often go away by themselves, but a surgeon can remove fluid from them with a syringe, and sometimes inject medication to keep them from recurring. Surgery is occasionally necessary for painful ganglia that keep recurring.

I have enclosed a photo of a porcelain vase that has been in my family for over 50 years.

The colors in the photo do not do it justice. It is decorated with a raised surface, much like cloisonne but without any wiring.

Marked in green letters on the bottom are the words “Hand Painted -- Nippon” and an image of a maple leaf.

“Nippon” is the Japanese word

I am more interested in its background than its value. Any information you can provide on our beloved piece will be appreciated.

This mark was used by Charles J. Mason & Co. Charles James Mason descended from a long line of potters in Staffordshire, England. In 1813, he purchased the Fenton Stone Works at Land Delphi, Staffordshire. Not long after establishing his pottery, he patented his famous ironstone. It was a welcome alternative to expensive porcelain. Ironstone can be mass-produced, and it is extremely durable and affordable.

Your Asian pattern was inspired by Imari designs that originated in Japan. Mason’s pottery produced tea and coffee sets, dinnerware, cheese tubs and chamber sets. It was in business from 1800 to 1854.

The mark you provided was used from 1829 to 1845.

Your tureen and matching under plate should be insured for $450 to $650.

One of the swing’s power leaks that I often see, particularly with a lot of adult male golfers, is a restricted release of the hands or wrists in the follow through. These players have a tightening of the left arm and hand in such a way that the club rarely makes it’s way behind the player’s neck. It should be considered a fundamental that the left wrist re-hinges in the follow through so that by the finish position it’s noticeably bent.

Most of the problem stems from excessive grip pressure and a “controlling” effort to guide the ball to the target. The correction usually rests in finishing the swing with a note to the left wrist’s bent orientation. These players shouldn’t worry so much about when and where to think about the proper wrist action through impact, but simply finishing in the correct orientation.
