This portfolio contains chosen projects that illustrate my path as Urban Designer and Architect so far.

During last 2 years I studied a master level program at KTH during which I took an interdisciplinary approach to gain more insides about social and environmental urban sustainability.

For that I took courses outside usual Design track such as Resilience thinking, Environmental justice, Urban Economics and Urban Planning course during which I got an amazing opportunity to collaborate and work alongside specialists with diverse background.

Now I look forward to continue my journey!

Blended natures

Master thesis project (Sustainable Urban Planning and Design program at KTH) under the supervision of Patrick Verhoeven.

What: Development strategies and design project for Igelbäcken kulturreservat Where: Stockholm, Sweden.

Järva catchment area/Igelbäcken kulturreservat.

When: Project created 2021 with developing planned for 2021-2035.

TASK: Holistically analize territory and create solutions for sustainable urban develoment with focus on socio-ecological systems and reconnection.

4 main topics for the research were: Water and Landscape, Green spaces and Agriculture, Access to urban amenities and New proposed development.

Strategic approach Igelbäcken kulturreservat is a place where tender green wedge and stream environments intersects with rapid urban growth and development. Thus solutions should be based on embrasing this complexity and strenghtening both social and ecological systems

Complexity c r e a t e s conflicts as well as gives birth to new solutions.

Cell-block structure lets fill new cluster with content that can be easily changed/ replased depending on community needs.

Blended natures

This project strived to highlight the importance of understanding and interacting with ecosystems for citizens.

Using resilience framework we can blend the harsh border between “Nature” and “City”.

Urban spaces can be place for resilience and restoration, while nature can bring enlightment for society.New area for co-living that brings needed acces to Barkarby from southern neighborhoods of Igelbäcken, while opening fields for more citizens.

Growing city

Bachelor thesis (Architecture program under Urban Design department at MArchI). Under supervision of Michael Shubenkov.

What: Development project for the reconstruction of the former industrial zone.

Where: Moscow, Russia.

Lublino area, South-East Moscow.

When: Project created 2018 with developing planned for 2025-2055 TASK: Reconstruct and restitch former industrial railway area that will be removed from Moscow territory. Rethink how city can include important railway tracks without them being noisy, polluting barriers.

Puzzle together torn green and pedestrian spaces. Reconnect river landscapes with the urbanised areas.

Create new neghborhood attractive for citizens and big business.

Reflections

Growing city

Reconstruction of former industrial zones is a big source of valued urban land. With biomorphic approach the district was able to adapt its form to “root“ urban connections in existing teritories and create a vibrant bloom of urban life inside, Stiches-bridges over importment railway lines open waterfront for citizens and let new bicycle and pedestrian connections to form. Continious green park protects housing from railway noise and preserved historical buildings for public eye.

Big buisness and production clusters on the north and west give better opportunities for local residents to work (as majority of development around the district is residential, which press people to travel for work somewhere else).

Cheremyoshki

What: Group project designed for Moscow Urban Festival competition.

Where: Moscow, Russia Cheremyoshki area When: Project created 2018 with developing planned for 2020-2030 TASK: Create project for renovation of Cheremyoshki area, that was developed in 50-s traditions with block 5 storeys social housing.

Keep as much as possible of social environment, while creating new vision for the area.

Level of input: Analysis schemes, Masterplan sketch and graphics

Strategic approach Main strategy was to preserve as much of the social infrastructure as possible.So main boulevard brings all of that together with big pedestrianonly public spaces in the middle. 2 main gates to the neighborhoods are oriented towards subway stations and the clean structure makes neighborhood easier to access and walk through.

Formmaking of the living cells based on connectivity and common spaces in between.

Reflections

Cheremyoshki

Historical development of 50-s is characterised by green environments known and loved in Moscow. Unfortunately the housing fond inself is quite worn off nowadays and government presses for reconstruction with much higher density. In order to fulfill that and keep as much of greenery as possible our group project strived for sensitive approach.

Main green boulevard starts with historical cinema buulding in the south and goes along preserved schools, kindergardens and social spaces. High density is reached by removing only aged residential buildinges. Visual front is higher in the outskirts and goes lower in the center.

City streams

Project designed at Texture studio during Sustainable Urban Planning and Design program at KTH. What: Open water collecting and reintrodusing system based on Satoyama approach for sustainable settlements.

Streams concept utilize the big height difference, that Södertälje has, to reintroduce nature based remidiation and reintroduction of water to local ecosystems.

Where: Stockholm, Sweden Södertälje When: Project created 2020 with developing planned for 2020-2025 TASK: Create a project in Södertälje that will be connected with water systems, sustainability and future vision under 3 weeks timelimit.

Strategic approach Open water collection systems can help decrease the load to underground cleaning facilities, that is expected to increase due to climate change and increasing density. Streams systems would also regulate the temperature during heatwaves and dry seasons.

Moreover open remidiation can help create more biodiversity spaces that will be aesthetical as well as educational for citizens, breaking the pattern of city enclosed by highways.

Reflections

City streams

Streams can collect rain water as well as prefiltered gray drains from households, running alongside housing and landscapes. Exiting the city at picturesque wetland landscapes, the water then gets reintroduced in the lakes and agricultural fields.

Wetlands here serve as a protection from water oversaturated with nutrients and contaminants getting straight in the bigger local ecosystems.

This project was designed in the way to bring together positive impacts of nature based remidiation both for citizens and biodiversity.

When: Project created 2020 with developing planned for 2030-2060 TASK: Reimagine how can Kungens Kurva area look like in the coming years with sustainable practises implemented.

Oak Park towers

Project designed during Architecture program at Moscow Architectural Institute. Under supervision of Michail Shubenkov.

What: Residential towers Where: Moscow, Russia Oak Park area, Nort-West Moscow.

When: Project created 2017 with developing planned for 2025-2040 TASK: Create a project for multistorey (over 16 floors) residetial towers at chosen area. Take into the account bigger urban changes as well as local life.

Approach This project combines idea of biomorphic facade that resembles tree brances and maximised balcony space with a view to the park.

Project designed during Architecture program at Moscow Architectural Institute. Under supervision of Michail Shubenkov.

What: Art colledge for young students and community education for adults during evening time.

Where: Moscow, Russia Tagansky district, central Moscow When: Project created 2017 with developing planned for 2020-2025 TASK: Create a project for a school/colledge at Serebryanicheskaya embankment (Yauza river).

Approach This project is all about light and creating illuminated inside spaces that inspires and doesnt disctuct students. Open common area gives opportunity to exchange ideas and build a strong community among students.
